  • Is this ok to use for beginners ? or should i stick with something basic from Jaycar?

If you want portable soldering iron get TS80P.
For desktop I would get Hakko FX-888D (genuine, from reliable source) as a beginner.

For general soldering (not for surface mount/micro parts) should be fine. Only buy this if you looking for portability.

Absolutely identical to the aldi kit they sell for 29.99 regularly. This is a waste of money. Great tool but not at this inflated price

They are very similar, but not identical. I have Dremel one, which is superb. I use it mostly on my boat - for soldering, as a hot knife (great for cutting ropes and any synthetic fabrics), as a little heart gun(for heat shrink). As well it can be used as hot air for soldering/desoldering.
The price is higher than Aldi's one, but is you have use cases like mine, I wouldn't wait a second.
(As well as I would buy Aldi one, if hadn't have got Demel already and IF they were readily available in Aldi)

A gas iron is not suitable for learning IMHO (assuming you mean electronics soldering V just joining wires). Gas irons vent a huge amount of heat which is one additional complexity you need when learning. Notwithstanding that, the inability to know what temperature your iron is running at is also problematic for a beginner.

I'd get an iron that uses T12 or TS1000 tips. These irons have extremely accurate temperature control and have a vast array of replacement tips (sizes) which makes the job 100x easier. Both under $100, T12 irons closer to $50 on Ali.

Very useful for cutting and sealing rope to stop fraying.

  • Great tool but the price should be under $40 as that’s
What I paid 2 years ago from Amazon . ( may be oz dollar was too strong back then )

I've had this iron for about 6 months, works well, superfast heatup. A great 2nd iron for jobs that can be performed quickly and simply away from a desk soldering station.

Gas irons get very hot for extended use, and for that reason, I'd not recommend this to beginners, or for extended PCB work.

For beginners, get an iron that uses T12 or TS1000 tips. These irons have extremely accurate temperature control and make the job 100x easier.

  • I have one of these. It works great. I've even done surface mount soldering with it.
