Any deals OP or just your weekly free advertising on ozbargain?

    • -1

      Hey mate,

The 50% off on equipments is fresh deal.

The deal with upto 35% off on winter essential is season deal and will last for few weeks. But every week we discount some more products on top of existing collection.

      Happy shopping!

      Cheers!

      • This is just the weekly Decathlon marketing email that gets sent out to all members.

        Any bargains?

        • Skis for half price is a bargain. If i needed some, i would jump on those. Ski stores don't even normally do 50% off during off season for older models.

          • @8azinga: Which ski's are the bargain? A link to the particular bargain helps on oz…bargain.

If op links a specific bargain, that helps people here. If op (regularly) advertises a company sale, thats just marketing.

            You don't understand the difference?

            • @Villainous: I just answered your question if there were any bargains. Not linking a specific product does not make it spam. They linked the page of snow gear where all their sale gear is listed.
The description does say 50% off skis. There are literally only 2 skis on the site and both are 50% off so there is no mistaking which ski's are at 50% off.

              • @8azinga: Agree with @8azinga. I was there Saturday morning for the ski boots and watched the staff change the paper signs on the skis down to $399

Although I feel the original price is a bit overpriced for the spec level, and the fact that it's an "end of season sale" when the snow season just started makes me think this is the marketing strategy, and this is the price point it was originally aimed at selling the bulk of the stock.

Still $299 for boots and $399 for (entry level) skis beats renting

                • @ShoeyAU: I thought the sale might have something to do with covid outbreak in Sydney as it could cause issues with ski season.
Pretty sure they would be able to sell them for $480/40% off. They had skis in 2019 but they weren't discounted until end of season when there were limited sizes.

                • @ShoeyAU: @ShoeyAU "Although I feel the original price is a bit overpriced for the spec level, and the fact that it's an "end of season sale" when the snow season just started makes me think this is the marketing strategy, and this is the price point it was originally aimed at selling the bulk of the stock."

This is useful information. "50% off" doean't automatically equal a bargain. When the actual items are posted in the ad it gets discussed and users become informed. Was good to actually get some feedback on the price point. Without specifics details and probing this site would just be a marketing noticeboard. Thanks

                  • @Villainous: Lol If you did your research, you would know that 50% off is not common. Even 40% off is not common. Most skis are only discounted 20-30% off during off season and a few get 40% off.
The $800 price point is right and compares to other skis with similar spec.
One persons opinion does not make it fact.
The fact that the more common sized skis have sold out shows people know it's a bargain.
All sizes of the poles have sold out for $30. You can not get ski poles for $30 elsewhere. I'm not even sure you will find anything under $50 but have not checked.

                    • @8azinga: @8azinga You got the link for every single ski sale ever? That would be great! Cheers mate, appreciate it

                      • @Villainous: Proves my point. You have no idea about ski pricing or sales and just trolling.

                    • @8azinga: "The $800 price point is right and compares to other skis with similar spec."

I guess what I was questioning is whether people were/would have originally bought that (essentially an entry level on-piste) ski at $800 (at Decathlon or elsewhere), or that most snow sports store hold at full RRP for a few early biters and then expect to sell the majority of stock once season starts at some sort of nominal discount.

As a comparison - here is an online retailer selling Rossignol Soul 7 with bindings for $1,049 (https://sxsnow.com.au/shop/skis/rossignol-soul-7-with-bindin…). Against $800 for the Atomic, the Soul 7 would have presented 'a fair bit more ski for the money' but against $399 its more a fairer on-par comparison and probably even tilt in Atomic's favor from a ski for money ratio.

Likewise the boots $299 (50% off) for the QST 80, I actually bought it but later that day I saw Elevation 107 had a last pair of Salomon S/MAX 110 for $480 in my size (40% off) so I also grabbed that, and now thinking of returning the QST or keeping it as a 2nd pair when I want to opt for more comfort.

The Decathlon discount is good, I'm just not fully convinced its truly 50% off good. I'm a big fan of Decathlon having lived in the UK and shopped there for a decade. Back in 2012 got my ski boots (also Salomon https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/salomon-mission-cruise-mens…) there for £99 (also approx 50% off at the start of season, coincidentally).

@ShoeyAU: All skis are overpriced at rrp but many do sell at full price. Go to Thredbo and look at people showing off the new skis at start of season which they likely paid full price for. It isn't just the atomic skis from decathlon. Ski stores sell exactly the same ski with same rrp.

That soul 7 is normally $1499 and is also a previous year's, maybe 2 seasons ago. $800 vs $1499 makes the vantage seem like good value. In terms of manufacturing costs, it isnt worth that much for the Soul 7.
They are completely different classes of skis. Someone who wants a narrow ski like the vantage 75 is not going to just decide to get a wide ski because it is only $250 more as it would not suit their intended use. Looking at other similar skis, the rossi experience 76 has a rrp of $899.

Boots are a different story. Get them properly fitted and a narrow, stiffer boot can be more comfortable. If you normally use a 110 boot already, then the 80 is probably not going to suit you. There are usually ways to adjust the flex up or down 10 so would be better off just doing that then buying a new softer boot if you think it will give you comfort. Even if I was looking for a boot for when I was skiing slowly, I would be looking for 100 minimum.
IMO, you'd be better off returning the QST and getting custom liners and/or moulding the shell to perfectly fit your foot.

                        • @8azinga: Fair points, I don't have much to add but now that I'm more inclined to return the boots it makes me wish I nabbed a pair of skis hehe, but then it becomes an extra pair to carry. I guess this thread is a moot point for this year given the deal's expired, but it might serve as info for the next season should the same pattern recur.

My last pair of boots were the ones I got in Decathlon UK back in end 2011/12. I think they were probably 80s, and that was the reason I got the QST as a like for like update replacement, but I umm'd and ahh'd because I did wanted a bit more boot stiffness from experience. I'm going down for this wknd so going to bring the 110s and see how they go and whether I still want to keep a softer pair.

                          • @ShoeyAU: In 2019, they didnt discount skis to 50% until end of season. Don't think they sold skis in 2020. Im still guessing it had something to do with covid outbreak. You said they were only putting signage up while you were there so it appears last minute. Those would normally be done before store opening or the night before after close.

Those $10 skis that were rrp $799 are now $399.50 and people who got them for $10 are trying to sell for $600+ lol

    • +1

And they said it was worth it camping out all night LOL

  • I got a pair of Salomon QST 80 ski boots at $299 this morning with this sale. https://decathlon.com.au/products/salomon-qst-access-80-ski-…

It's a soft boot with a wide last so more geared towards the comfort end of the spectrum rather than performance. I think it would be good for long days out cruising the groomers . For powder/off-piste/performance u'd probably want to opt for a stiffer and tighter boot.

      80 is not very soft.
