Returning Jeans (Worn Three Times) without Tags but with Receipt to David Jones

Hello community!

I am in a bit of a pickle here.

I recently purchased jeans and without thinking too far ahead, cut off the tags and wore the jeans with the thought that I'd be keeping them for a long time.

After 3 wears of the jeans, I realised the pair of jeans are quite stretchy and now the jeans are way too big for me….

It's still less than a month since I purchased them from David Jones. I've had a look at the refund policy and it says they'll refund them if tags are attached.

Unfortunately I've thrown the tags out….I've got the online receipt with me but no tags….

I'd really like to get a refund on these pair of jeans or ask for a size change (but I don't think they have anymore of the size below).

Any recommendations, tips or pointers? I'm all ears here!

  • Can you post a listing in the classified section? My jeans keep becoming tight so this might be just what I need

  • bro no, you got your ball sweat all over it now, imagine you go into a store and buy jeans that were previously worn by some @sshole 3 times, how would u feel?

  • You removed the tags you keep it. Usually try the jeans with the tags. That's what you should have done. Accept the losses

Sell them in the trading post

  • Always worth trying on in the store first, before buying something. And don't cut/throw away tags or wear before sure you are happy with them.
    Trap for young players..

Just get over it and or sell..

  • DJ might be very generous and refund your money easily, but it's unfair for the company who produced the jeans as they can't resell it again.
Why don't you try to think from the company's perspective for once? If you are the business owner will you let your customer refund it after wearing it 3 times?
Hopefully only 1 in a million customer like this.

I don't know if others read the same post as I did or just didn't read it at all before joining in on the pile on the OP game.
The jeans fit well when purchased, but after wearing them 3 times had stretched and are now way too big.
If they had never been worn they would not have stretched and would still fit perfectly
OP said in a follow up post they have other jeans of the same brand so the stretch was certainly unexpected.
If a refund is given it will be as a faulty product (Australian Consumer Law does not require original packaging to be retained or tags to remain on clothing) not a change of mind under DJ's refund policy.
The pants will not be put back on the shelf and no one should be unwittingly sold second hand jeans as new. If DJ's put them back on the shelf and sell as new that is their bad not OP.
David Jones would not necessarily be out of pocket as they would go back to the supplier. Hopefully then the supplier fixes the excessive stretch issue and the next sucker that pays $300 for a pair of their jeans will get something that fits longer than 3 wears.
As I appear to be on the unpopular OP side I am prepared for the negs from those that can't or don't read.

  • It all depends if they were stretchy to start with and was just a change of mind.
How much were these jeans anyway / link?

Pretty annoyed with a pair of G-star jeans i got from the online outlet once, piece of crap compared to what they should have been (probably worn and returned), the outlets are seconds at best anyway but i should have returned before ditching the tags and wearing. Also should have sotcked up on the legit ones from the Gold Coast store before they shut down, those were a perfect fit and even had normal (shorter) length leg options

    !!!!!!!!!! FINAL UPDATE !!!!!!!!!!

I received an email from DJ Customer Service and to summarise the email, they have offered me either:

    1) A further 10% discount if I was to keep the item;
    2) A full refund, exchange or option to repair the item.

They have noted that it has come down to a faulty product and will be talking to the 'Online Management Team' who will be reviewing this incident with their distribution team.

The response from DJ is quite surprising to be completely frank! They have gained a new loyal customer, that's for sure.

Unfortunately this may have lost them many customers according to the multiple negative posts I received saying they'll "never shop at DJ's again if the jeans were to get refunded". You win some, you lose many.

Again, I want to thank the whole OzBargain community for all their point of views, whether negative or positive; it was eye opening for me to read the wide range of opinions and perspectives.

This I guess is the end of a saga….until next time OzB!
