I've also written off sony completely after my brand new pair of these earphones started having connection issues, they literally ghosted me after I mentioned I needed a fix.
Horrendous customer service, actually reminds me to try the ombudsman now.Surely eBay helped though?
Do you mean that you compared refurbed 1000xm3 with new 1000xm3? or a different pair of headphones?
I purchased the Sony WH1000XM4B (Seconds^) from the last ozBargain deal, and when I thought the sound was amiss I borrowed my friends brand new, same model but from The Good Guys and it was much better. eBay had to step in as Sony also ghosted me, and that was after I raised the issue and request for a refund on day 1 of purchase.

I purchased some headphones from the last deal. The moment I played the first song I realised the headphones sounded odd but not bad. I compared them to a friends brand new headphones and realised the mid-range was mostly missing. I went through the eBay dispute process and Sony didn't even begin to help.
