This was my first Layton game. It's fairly crap.

    1. The overarching story literally does nothing. It is an insult that it even exists
    2. The characters and protagonists are incredibly dull to the point of being unlikable. A 12 year old with a politically correct mind could have written the conversations.. Wow they are awful
    3. There are 12 stories. The culprit is predictable in 75% of them. But you'll barely be started the case before you know who it is so it feels like you're having to grind out to the end of the episode
    4. The puzzles devolve into trick questions so often that you expect it. Which cheapens the puzzles and makes them easy
    5. There are a number of puzzles with omissions in the question. Very annoying to get one wrong because of that. There is even one wrong puzzle (they've written the clue different to what they meant)
    6. The bonus puzzles come in series of say 20 sets with 20 puzzles per set following the same rules. Some of them are such a chore. And the fruit one.. The last few levels require a leap of faith (logic alone isn't enough) and the switch doesn't allow a good enough rewind method to go back and take a different leap of faith

I did every puzzle because I can't bear to own a puzzle game and not thoroughly beat it. Took about 60 hours. Can't recommend it.

Go buy Quell or something instead.

I love the Layton series and I think I've played them all, personally this one was also the weakest for me. It was still good entertainment but compared to some of the others the characters and storylines just didn't have the same charm.

Yeah I could imagine you'd need to be quite invested in the Layton series to overlook the character and storyline issues. Even with that I thought the puzzles weren't good enough to save it. I'm not saying they're all bad or anything.. but with 500 odd puzzles I felt they favoured quantity over quality

The potential for a good future katrielle game is totally there, this was just a false start.

    • Quell? The boxing game?
