I thought most classes would have lecture notes, or power point slides that you can download via WebCT beforehand?
Or is this highschool? In which case I'd just recommend a sub $100 Android smartphone.
Huawei X1 goes for less than $70 bucks from Aldi.
Your mates… or your mates mates should have an old one lying in a drawer somewhere.
lol So youre not doing the sms PC to phone, scanner, livescribe, reading .txt off phone anymore?
I think he's relying way too much on technology for note taking.
Back in the old days (which is not too long ago!) the pen and paper was good enough.
Don't let all that technology distract you, sometimes it's better to just listen and take notes the old fashioned way. If you missed out something in class, just borrow a friend's notebook.
I do admit though a smartphone is heaps better than a diary, since you can sync stuff to the cloud and have alarms and notifications. Google Calendar beats the dead tree calendar anyday.
I agree, I did all my note taking using pen and paper throughout uni. I find studying by re-writing my notes using pen and paper helps so so much more than typing, especially for chemistry.
If you just want to backup your notes electronically, just by a cheap scanner, the quality from a phone will be no where as good.
Plus OP, werent you looking for an iPhone few months back (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54588)?

My degree was so long ago I have a vague recollection of using a slate iPad with chalk stylus! ;)
using pen and paper
where do I download this app?
Don't get the Huawei U8150 for taking photos. The quality is worse than my old 2MP Sony Ericsson mobile. Not sure if the X1 would be much better?
I'm willing to sell my old galaxy S - how much are you willing to pay for it?
how low are you willing to accept?
I think you already subconsciously have a reserve price in mind, asking the (potential) buyer for a price is kinda pointless IMO.
Besides, if you want the maximum amount of $ back from it, the best place for it is eBay where you can rip off the technologically unsavvy crowd.
I don't really want to bother with ebay - maybe just sell it for around $150 with 3 cases included?
Fishing for a free one?
if you are in Australia, look no further than Gumtree.com.au - there's so much good phones out there. Take your pick and have fun
Why bother with 2nd hand, you can get quite useable camera phones from any of the various supermarket chains on any given week for $20-$50 bucks. Last time I was at Woolies they had a Huawei X1 for $49, & Aldi had it for a similar price IIRC! :o
