@eug: See my comment further down. This plan is a 3G/4G/5G plan. If your 5G reception is lousy the modem will revert to 4G. If that's stable then that's good enough and you have no recourse for a refund or to cancel the plan, unlike the 5G upfront data plans
@eug: Edit: the upfront data plans aren't service guaranteed either, but you can cancel them after a month if you're not getting 5G. With this contract you can't do that.

Not sure if I am reading that the same way according to the link you provided. It says $69 mobile plan with 100gb/month but free wifi modem 5g and total data 150gb/month. It doesn't say there is an EXTRA 150gb/month plan for the modem. THe wording on that plan is terrible.
Point 1 of the link says bonus 150gb the good guys data, so it's 250gb, not 300.

$69 is 150GB, and this offer adds an extra 150GB (so, 300GB for $69/month) - catch being it's a 12 month contract.
If you're only in it for data, then yes $6/extra month gives you an extra 100GB (plus it can be pooled with any mobile phones or other data SIMs on the account) - but if you're after a 5G modem you get one included ($599RRP) with this TGG deal.

Yes, the Upfront Data plans (https://www.telstra.com.au/internet/data-plans) can be shared with up to 9 other Upfront Data or Upfront Mobile plans.
The JB/TGG plans can't be pooled as they are not Upfront and not in the new billing system.
So you can get 400GB for $75/month (no contract) and share that with your other Upfront services
Or you can get this JB/TGG plan with 300GB for $69/month (12 month contract) and get a free ZTE MU500 modem - but the data can't be pooled.
(Also the ZTE does mmWave. The M5 does not)
@b3au: mmWave has years to become main stream in Australia. Also the MU500 is missing N40 which the nighthawk has. Throw in an Optus data sim to a nighthawk and you will have the Optus CA that combines N40, N78 and LTE. This is not available everywhere but I have seen it working at CA enable site and it's absolutely smoking!! If only Optus can fix it's pricing…

Might be a silly question but can you plug one of these into a mesh router? Or is it purely a WiFi hotspot that devices directly connect to? I've got a TP-Link Mesh set-up that I would plug this thing into. An added benefit of this will be being able to place the modem somewhere other than near the nbn NTD.
Also, I haven't been able to spot the excess usage charges / shaping - is it 1.5mbps? Thanks.
EDIT: Damn, it looks like my family uses c.400gb a month. Optus is about to jack up our fairly subpar NBN pan to $75 a plan and we have 5G in our area…
Something to be aware of, the $69 plan is 5G capable, but not dedicated 5G - meaning if you get your modem home and the 5G reception is iffy, it'll switch to 4G and you're stuck with that for 12 months. The upfront data plans & modem through Telstra on the other hand are a true 5G plan and subject to Telstra's service guarantee, so if you're not getting 5G you can return the modem and cancel the contract.
