  • How's that SHIBA 'investment'?

    • +1

Hold to die 😀, actually now all in AMC

      • AMC is a distraction from GME though. Looks like someone makes poor investments.

      • I picked up AMC at $42 the other day and sold just before close at $66.25, has been down since selling

    Terms and Conditions
    1. To be eligible, new connections must sign up to The Good Guys $69 100GB per month over 12
months mobile broadband plan with a minimum cost of $828 over 12 months to receive one
and only one Telstra Wi-Fi Pro 5G (100159942) and 150GB Bonus The Good Guys Data per
month for 12 months from the connection date. (“Promotion”).

    So only 250GB in total??

    Plus, this or that??

    • The $69 plan is 150GB. https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2021FY/Brands/Telstra/w…

      150GB standard with the $69 plan, plus a bonus 150GB makes 300GB.

      • but not dedicated 5G unfortunately

        • What do you mean?

          • @eug: See my comment further down. This plan is a 3G/4G/5G plan. If your 5G reception is lousy the modem will revert to 4G. If that's stable then that's good enough and you have no recourse for a refund or to cancel the plan, unlike the 5G upfront data plans

            • @enzso: Oh right, that's good to know. I'd probably confirm reception with my phone first.

              • +2

@eug: Edit: the upfront data plans aren't service guaranteed either, but you can cancel them after a month if you're not getting 5G. With this contract you can't do that.

  • do u still get $10 credit per month on telstra making it $59 a month?

i guess jb hifi will have this promo too soon.

will they do it over the phone for those in cockdown?

    • +10

      I'm sorry, in whatdown?

      • +6

He's referring to people who aren't that excited over it.

        • +1

That, or he needs to see a doctor post haste

    • Just wait a few more days. Friday will be back to normal.

  • Not sure if I am reading that the same way according to the link you provided. It says $69 mobile plan with 100gb/month but free wifi modem 5g and total data 150gb/month. It doesn't say there is an EXTRA 150gb/month plan for the modem. THe wording on that plan is terrible.

    • +1

Point 1 of the link says bonus 150gb the good guys data, so it's 250gb, not 300.

  • anyone tried to secure this deal via phone, noting Phone Sales excluded?

    unfortunately in VIC

  • 300GB, is that download only or upload+download both?

    • pretty sure 300gb for both not for each.

  • Anyone tried as an existing Telstra customer? I have a mobile pre-paid & NBN plan, not sure if i'm still eligible.
Offer only available in store. Excludes online, Phone Sales, Commercial Sales, eBay, Existing
Boost, Belong and Telstra Pre-Paid customers. Offer not in conjunction with any other offer

  • +1

Only 250GB for $69? Telstra website says for $75/month you can get 400GB? https://www.telstra.com.au/internet/data-plans

Where is this 250GB plan listed?

    • +1

The expensive 5G modem is what makes this a good deal.

      • +2

Fair enough, but 4G modems are dirt cheap.

        • until your place needs to upload and nbn isnt available. its a good deal, last time was a 300GB though.

        • Hi mate, Can you pls share few of them? I am looking to buy one as my nbn is not feasible and i am running off my phone tethering right now.

          thanks in advance.

@Ash SA: Huawei B818 is the cheapest fast one. Outright at Optus for $216. Or you can probably get one second hand for around $100.

LTE CAT19, so up to 1.6Gbps.

            • +1

              @futaris:

LTE CAT19, so up to 1.6Gbps.

You'll see that if you live in an LTE testing lab. ;)

JB/TGG have their own plans only offered via their stores - https://thegoodguys.sirv.com/Content/2021FY/Brands/Telstra/w…

      $69 is 150GB, and this offer adds an extra 150GB (so, 300GB for $69/month) - catch being it's a 12 month contract.

If you're only in it for data, then yes $6/extra month gives you an extra 100GB (plus it can be pooled with any mobile phones or other data SIMs on the account) - but if you're after a 5G modem you get one included ($599RRP) with this TGG deal.

      • Are you sure this can be data pooled? Does this mean all JB / TGG plans now can all data pooled?

        $600 for a ZTE 5G modem OMG what a rip off… I rather just pay for a Nighthawk M5.

        • Yes, the Upfront Data plans (https://www.telstra.com.au/internet/data-plans) can be shared with up to 9 other Upfront Data or Upfront Mobile plans.

The JB/TGG plans can't be pooled as they are not Upfront and not in the new billing system.

So you can get 400GB for $75/month (no contract) and share that with your other Upfront services

Or you can get this JB/TGG plan with 300GB for $69/month (12 month contract) and get a free ZTE MU500 modem - but the data can't be pooled.

(Also the ZTE does mmWave. The M5 does not)

          • @b3au: For the data pooling, is it only for post-paid plans?

            • @macmine: Yes only the Upfront plans

          • +1

@b3au: mmWave has years to become main stream in Australia. Also the MU500 is missing N40 which the nighthawk has. Throw in an Optus data sim to a nighthawk and you will have the Optus CA that combines N40, N78 and LTE. This is not available everywhere but I have seen it working at CA enable site and it's absolutely smoking!! If only Optus can fix it's pricing…

  • TGG website seems to advertise 300GB. Anyone went for this deal? Can you confirm?

    • I’ve got a photo of the advertising from a very helpful TGG staff at Moorabbin showing 300GB data.

    • Yes. It’s 300Gb data

  • Might be a silly question but can you plug one of these into a mesh router? Or is it purely a WiFi hotspot that devices directly connect to? I've got a TP-Link Mesh set-up that I would plug this thing into. An added benefit of this will be being able to place the modem somewhere other than near the nbn NTD.

Also, I haven't been able to spot the excess usage charges / shaping - is it 1.5mbps? Thanks.

EDIT: Damn, it looks like my family uses c.400gb a month. Optus is about to jack up our fairly subpar NBN pan to $75 a plan and we have 5G in our area…

  • Something to be aware of, the $69 plan is 5G capable, but not dedicated 5G - meaning if you get your modem home and the 5G reception is iffy, it'll switch to 4G and you're stuck with that for 12 months. The upfront data plans & modem through Telstra on the other hand are a true 5G plan and subject to Telstra's service guarantee, so if you're not getting 5G you can return the modem and cancel the contract.

    • Wondering if anyone know how accurate is Telstra’s 5G map?

    • +1

My error. The upfront data plans aren't 5G guaranteed, they're just not a contract so can be cancelled after a month

      • Are there any ETC for this TGG plan?

        • Yes.

“ You'll need to pay an Early Termination Charge (ETC) if you cancel your plan early, equal to 50% of your monthly fee for the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term. The maximum ETC for your plan is set out in the above table. In addition to this, you'll also need to reimburse Telstra for any vouchers you received for entering into your plan if you cancel your plan early. This Voucher Reimbursement Cancellation Fee will be pro-rated, equal to the total amount of the base voucher divided by 12 and multiplied by the months (or part months) remaining in your plan term.”

          • @Barginer: Thanks. Couldn’t quite find the info in the link.

            • @macmine: No problem. I got from the Telstra/Good Guys docs when I signed up with them on Friday.
