Latest Kmart catalogue commencing Feb 2nd has the Skylanders Starter Kit for $68. DSE had them for around $85 and JB Hi-Fi was $99 I think. Ozgameshop $70 and up.

  • Is this game any good - my son wants it but wasnt sure if it was worth the spend?

  • +2

It is a great game my son loves it.Just be aware that for certain areas of the game you need to buy more Skylanders.

    • My 5Yr old and his 8 year old cousin love this game . I doubt a 10+ year old would be that enamoured with it though . Great heads up from sarbear , their marketing stratagy is right up their with nintendo and apple . Even for a kids game it's pretty average and any of the lego games has far more longevity and replay value than Skylanders . I reckon the whole charater concept was intergrated to prevent pirating of the game and it will no doubt become more common .

  • My son loves it, in fact he's addicted to it at the moment, and so are his good friends at school. You can finish the game with the figures that come with the starter pack, but you can only open certain chapters with additional figures. We paid $80 just before Christmas, so $68 is quite cheap, cheaper than Ozgameshop :)

  • My son played it at a relatives and now won't stop going on about it. No reason at the moment to give him a $70 gift but tempted to take advantage of this for some time in the future.

  • Great for kids but a little too easy to complete for adults.

  • My 4yr old son loves it. We got the PS3 version just before Christmas.

It's greatly expensive - i.e. for 100% of areas available to you, it's $68 + 5*$15 (a bit less if you go for 3packs), and if you end up in collecting mode it comes to around $300.

I occasionally enjoy doing the challenges and speed runs, earning the trophies/achievements etc. The game itself is quite shallow, and there are bugs (lost sound, crashes, portal read failures), but it makes him happy so I don't particularly mind.

    There's a very average online counterpart - but that's a different story…
