Is it still illegal to have foglights on with the headlights in Victoria at night? If so, what is the penalty - is it a fine, or do you lose demerit points as well?
Wondering if this is still a law that is enforced as driving home at night compared to many years back, the vast majority of cars now have the foglights and headlights switched on now.
Is It Illegal to Have Foglights on?

You will find those fog lights are make believe. Not anywhere close to the effectiveness of the real thing.
Are you sure they are foglights (55w+) or running lights (18w). The former is illegal unless conditions allow, the latter is fine at all times.
I've set my car up so the foglights are on permanently but only receive 3.8v unless I manually turn them on. Perfectly legal
Its not foggy, dont turn them on… simples.
But…..they look soooo coool!especially on a ‘bogan’ Commodore!
Foglights only legal in times of low visibility, e.g fog.
Should be illegal to have those blinding LED lights that are 10x worse than fogs.
It is.
the vast majority of cars now have the foglights and headlights switched on now.
The majority of cars have daytime running lights, not foglights.
And that vast majority of those with drl and a lit up dash aren't aware they have no other lights on at night
A lot of cars with DRLs also have auto headlights.
As long as the driver puts in on "auto", it'll automatically do its thing when it gets dark.I see waaaaay too many people driving around at night with no rear lights, then drive past and they have their dash lit up and their drl. Completely unaware they are invisible to others from behind.
@timthetoolman: Probably those people that have switched their "auto" lights off.
I've got the virtual cockpit that's really just a huge LCD screen and the headlights set to "Auto", but I still find myself constantly checking to make sure my lights are actually on.
@ bobbified.Not correct,ours have both.
Not correct,ours have both.
You drive around with both switched on? I have both ony my vehicle, but it's always the DRLs that are on. The fog lights only get used when there's fog.
I was saying that the OP is probably mistakening everyone's DRLs for fog lights because lots of cars nowadays have DRLs that are on almost permanently. I can see how they can easily be mistaken.
No,not @ all,but the car is equipped with Led fog lights & DRLs,have only ever used the FL once.Once the FL comes on,the DRLs dim right down.
OP, surely you are confusing DRLs with Fog lights.
I hardly ever see fog lights on these days.
surrender your licence
Get the feeling OP is confusing fogs with daytime running lights.
Fog lights? Illegal unless poor visibility - usually fog.
Daytime running lights? Supposed to be on always, except when also an indicator when they switch to indicator when indicating then back on after indicator off.
Driving lights? Not sure, probably low visibility.
Spotlights/light bars? Only with high beam.If you need to push a button to turn them on then they are classified as Fog Lights under the law (regardless of voltage etc)
You are not permitted to use them unless you have poor visibilityDaytime running lights, the ones that are usually on when your headlights are off are perfectly legal.
Why do you think they are called Fog Lights OP?
Are people too lazy to Google anymore?
If you forget to turn your fog lights off in Victoria, you will be facing a $159 fine

Maybe they are still waiting on a response from Siri.
Wear yellow glasses at night and the other cars headlights don't seem as bright, also, you see things better, bonus
