Google Pixel 4a 5G 128GB $549 Delivered (Registered Telstra ID Required) @ Telstra

2710

Dare I say a real bargain for this phone, lowest I’ve ever seen even.

Google Pixel 4a 5G is currently $549 outright with a previously registered Telstra ID, $250 off RRP and $50 cheaper than this deal not long ago. However, if you have not owned a Telstra ID, you’ll need to add an upfront mobile plan, minimum $55 for at least 1 month, bringing it to a total of $604 to be able to check out.

The professionals out there will probably not forget to price match Officeworks for another 5% off or use their 10% off giftcards at JB Hi Fi.

Happy hunting!

The iPhone 12 and 12 mini are also on sale for $200 off RRP for all variations on Telstra website. Same requirements with Telstra ID apply.

  • iPhone 12 mini: 64GB ($999) | 128GB ($1079) | 256GB ($1249) link
  • iPhone 12: 64GB ($1149) | 128GB ($1229) | 256GB ($1399) link

For new customers, you can avoid the $55 upfront mobile plan at checkout with a $2 prepaid sim, thanks APN Adelaide

Require to add mobile plan to buy outright. Good to add this in description.

    • +2

I went to the checkout window but didn't follow through. Good to know. I'll update OP

      • +16

No plan is required, you just select outright and add to cart without selecting a plan. You will need a telstra account or make a new one

  • +10

Went through to payment and no obligation to add a plan. Good price.

    • Amazing! Thank you for letting me know

    • Can confirm this as well.
Only a Telstra ID is required.

    • Yes, you can get through to payment with no obligation to add a plan. Were you able to actually purchase one without adding a plan though? Because it fails for me without adding a plan.
      Thanks

  • Crap, just bought the Samsung S20 last week, would have prefer this for the unlimited photo storage.

    • +5

I thought they didn't offer that any more? At any rate, it's two years only. I got sucked in with my 2XL, took a million photos without a care then found my account was overloaded when two years was up, now I'm paying for Google One to keep everything.

      • Unlimited high quality but not original quality, I assume as long as it's loaded from a Pixel phone ?

        • -4

Everyone has unlimited high quality photos with a Google account - but all smart phones take much higher resolution photos

          • +7

@pdtmathieson: Not from today they don't!
(Only photos already there that not count towards 15GB)

Google’s unlimited high-quality photo storage will change from 1 June 2021. Starting then every new photo and video uploaded will count toward the 15 GB of storage that comes with every Google Account.

            • @Gandalf the Thrifty: And that was one of the reasons I have finally went back to iPhone after 12 years of google. It was always a big plus for Google but now that has gone and I can still use all of my Google apps on iPhone I’ve forgotten why I was so against the idea.

            • @Gandalf the Thrifty: I have uploaded few photos from my computer and G drive. They have been counted towards my free 15GB storage. I cannot fathom this.

          • @pdtmathieson: Yep newly added photos count towards storage limit

      • Looks like I need to get one too (Google One), wife takes a lot of photos

      • Wait, don't you get to keep your original quality ones though, only photos you take now are the high quality?

        • +1

No, the device stores the original quality, and you can choose to keep unlimited high quality on Google Photos, or original quality that contributes to the cap.

          • +1

@pdtmathieson: You get unlimited free storage at Original quality for all photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos from Pixel 2 through January 16, 2021. Photos and videos uploaded on or before that date will remain free at Original quality. After January 16, 2021, new photos and videos will be uploaded at High quality for free. If you upload new photos and videos at Original quality, they will count against your storage quota. Source

      • The pixel OG is unlimited forever.
Buy second hand and transfer over
It does raw photos and videos too.

        https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/paulmonckt…

        • I did this. Have an OG just for uploading.

Only problem is it's battery life is so bad it'll shortly not even be able to turn on, even when plugged in.

But still, good way to upload a few TBs of photos in raw.

          • @shankur: May I ask what the Pixel OG is?

            • @Averell: Pixel OG also known as Pixel 1. The original where they offered unlimited photo)video storage to entice buyers

              • +1

@mmd: Pixel 3A, Pixel 4, Pixel 4A, Pixel 5: You also still get unlimited free “Storage saver,” aka “High quality” images going forward, but not “Original quality”
Pixel 3: You still get unlimited free “Original quality” photos and videos if you upload them before January 1st, 2022, after which you get unlimited “Storage saver” going forward
Pixel 2: You got (past tense) unlimited free “Original quality” photos and videos if you uploaded them before January 16th, 2021, and you get unlimited “Storage saver” going forward
Pixel 1 / OG (2016): You get unlimited free “Original quality” photos and videos until your phone kicks the bucket

    • tempted to buy just for the unlimited photo storage, is this still the case the pixels?

      • +1

        https://gizmodo.com/current-pixel-owners-will-get-to-keep-un…

hmm… not so sure anymore..this says future Pixel will not get it

        • +1

I read that to mean Future Devices would not get unlimited storage, eg Pixel 5a, Pixel 6 etc.

HQ uploads (under 16-MP) from “Pixels 2-5 will continue to be free and unlimited after June 1st.”

      • +3

Yes, with current pixels it is but only 'High Quality' which is not 'Original Quality'. To be honest most people these days are randomly clicking a millions photos so unlikely anyone truly wants "Original Quality" photos and those that do will definitely be also backing to a hard drive.

        • yep, back up to a hard drive …..if it’s pictures of your kids doing a “first something” you might want to get 8”x10” print for the grand parents so you want as high a res as the original …… i’m for some it’s the biggest fish they caught ……but if you intend to print a photo at some stage keep the res original ….. if you just wantto share with friends with phone screen then it’s not an issue.

          • +1

@garage sale: Also, from what I understand, "High Quality" is 16mp image or Full HD Video so I think that already kind of meets the needs of the majority including printing. My Pixel only has 12 MP camera so my understanding is "High Quality" is pretty much "Original Quality".

      • Nope. Only pixel OG. Others get time limited.

  • +2

Are they locked up with Telstra Network please ?

    • +2

      No network locks

    • +1

Nah they aren't. I bought one when they had their last sale on these for $599. It's an awesome phone!

  • +4

Have anyone actually checked out successfully with payment without a plan? I tried and right after verification of personal detail it told me I needed to add a plan.

    • That’s certainly interesting. Maybe try your luck with price matching if you don’t want to add a plan?

      • I will certainly try to price beat when stores open

I am in Victoria though, who will price match online or by phone? never done it this way

        • Officeworks does price beat on the phone. Just give them a call on their hotline

          • @Kremleen: Telstra page doesn't list the model number which is a show stopper for OW PB

            • +1

@shabaka: Just got a successful price beat with OW (1300 OFFICE). Awaiting local store manager approval then in-store pickup. Have paid via CC over the phone. $522.

Update: got notification that order is ready for collection. And picked up no issues. Cheering. Thanks OP!

              • @slankets: @shabaka -
                hey hey !
can you please explain how this works …first timer here.

                • @adalina: See below your mileage may vary. Officeworks pricebeat policy 5%.

              • @slankets: I just tried calling officeworks (1300 OFFICE) and they didn't price match due to Telstra requiring an account and credit check. He said a few went through this morning but they are unable to do it anymore.

edit: No luck at JB Hi-Fi (13 52 44) either.

Although I have noticed that Officeworks have it for $646 - that is cheaper than RRP I believe?

  • +2

"To make this purchase, you need to have a Telstra plan. To continue, please add a plan to this order. "

the downvoted fella above was right. if you're not with Telstra already, good luck checking this out

    • Adjusted OP accordingly. Much appreciated

    • +1

At what point did it say this? I can get all the way to adding my cc details but I don't want to buy it so can proceed

      • +5

it applies to those who don't have anything to do with Telstra. it won't allow me to create a Telstra iD without a plan with them

and can't checkout without a Telstra ID

so if you don't have a Telstra ID you will need a plan

if you do have a Telstra ID already, you can checkout without a plan

        • Gotcha. Will update again to reflect this

        • May be try going to Coles/WW/OW, grab a $2 Telstra sim, use that to crate a Telstra ID :D

          • @TanedaR: that'll take me half day to get going, it might be ozbargained by then

  • This or s20fe 5g?

    • A toss up really. At the same price I’d say the snapdragon FE though. This phone is not waterproof at all, the screen isn’t as nice as a Samsung screen but it doesn’t have those easy to destroy curved edges that I’ve grown to loathe. Not sure it’s theFE has the curved screen or not.

      • S20 FE has flat screen. I bought a S20 FE 5G over a Pixel 4A for my mum, its a great phone. The 4A has better software but the S20 FE has a much bigger battery, water resistance and wireless charging which makes it a better choice than the 4A imo. Bargain for $600

  • Thanks OP…purchased outright with no probs.

    • Did you have to add a plan? I have telstra TV so I have a telstra ID, but I don't want to get a phone plan with them.

      • Bought one. No plan needed. Just pick "outright" and you're good to go.

        • definitely didn't work for me

          • @roozmik: Why? Did you need a Telstra ID?

            • @TLZ: i signed up for a telstra id, and that didn't work. today I bought a $2 sim, activated it and then tried to buy it and it still didn't work. :(

  • +1

    Is it dual sim ?

  • Decent upgrade for my fiance's OnePlus 6?

Android 12 support seems appealing, looks really clean.

    • I checked it out in store and it is basically the same size as my OP6. Keen on this but holding out for the Pixel 6 reviews.

  • Yep purchased..no plan required.

    • Wow, how did you do that - it fails for me when no plan is selected.

  • With all the mixed comments about the need of a mobile plan, I honestly don’t know how to proceed. Please let me know if a plan is necessary and if not, how you avoid the problems other people are having during checkout

    • +2

I plan on telling you later

    • +3

It seems you don't need a current plan, but rather a Telstra ID (which you get by being a Telstra customer in the past).

      • Thank you for this. I’ve tried to clear up the confusion with Telstra system in OP. I’ve never heard about this in previous Telstra deals so it’d be good to make it clearer for everyone.

  • If it's the same terms as last deal, you definitely need a Telstra mobile on at least 59 a month plan. I can't give you any link because I could never find them online. Don't hate on me, it's Telstra's fault that this deal is ambiguous!

  • Too bad it's only 128g and the camera is not on par with p30 pro. Wife won't be happy.

Good for me if I were looking for a new phone.

    • +4

I work for various camera testing company and I can guarantee you pixel 4A produces better footage then the outdated p30 pro :)

    • The camera is fairly incredible, use 'portrait' mode when taking a photo. I think it's the software rather than the hardware that is making the photo's look so good.

  • Its a good deal if you don't have a phone to trade in. Otherwise extra $160 an get you an S21.

    • can you please share a link to S21 for $709?

      • +1

the on going S21 trade in office from Samsung website.

  • I managed to get price match from JB at last $599 deal, no plan. You can't go wrong with this 5G phone at this price.

  • +3

Thank you for posting! I just bought one outright (didn't add a plan) for $549. I am an existing customer with Telstra though so already have a phone on a plan but needed to purchase one for my husband.

  • +3

Fantastic price for a solid phone.

Previously purchased for $569 (JB price match with a SunCorp gift card) and worth every penny!

  • Anyone had luck price beating with Officeworks? My local store isn't answering the phone.

    • +3

Call the main hotline 1300 OFFICE. They beat this down to $522. Awaiting pickup confirmation in 2 hours.

Update: got notification that order is ready for collection. And picked up no issues. Cheering. Thanks OP!

  • iphone worth it?

    • +1

Should be, don't see any other $200 off deals anywhere else. I'm thinking about it too, either iPhone 12 mini or the regular 12…

  • You cannot pricematch with OW as the outright price must include an eligible telstra plan

    • +2

Just got a price beat at Officeworks.
$522. Awaiting manager approval then pickup in store.

Store is Five Dock NSW. I called the main hotline 1300 OFFICE. Paid via CC on the phone.

      • how did you proceed without a model number they gave me a runaround on the phone

        • Don't know the lady just put it through. It just says Pixel 4a 5G 128GB on the Telstra website. Maybe they just compared that to OW listing.

          • +1

            @slankets: I got a shitty lady then
took her 10 minutes to find 4a 5g on Telstra website
I will call some other lady ffs

      • +5

Tried twice, no luck here. She said the price beat team have advised them not to much Telstra for this phone. Seems price beating at OW has been Ozbargain'd.

        • Guess they stopped doing it. Hoping my order isn't canceled.

Update: got notification that order is ready for collection. And picked up no issues. Cheering. Thanks OP!

        • Same issue as with the last deal. You might have better luck in store

          • +1

@inasero: Tried calling my local but they don't pick up haha

        • +2

I guess they've learnt now. Telstra did the same with pixel 5 deal before ($750) and a bunch of ozbargainers like me went around different stores or kept calling main hotline to try their luck to price beat. After 2 stores rejected, I managed to snag a price beat on my 3rd store I called up, but man it was far

        • YMMV I don't bother with Retailers price matching because usually not worth it.

I would just get the deal online no hassles no fuss no need to speak to anyone who makes up the long list of excuse to not give you the discount.

They have every right to not match but throwing lame excuses are not on

      • Same with everyone else. Lady said she does not price match Telstra at all (probably the same lady I spoke to as you guys). It would be interesting to see a receipt for this transaction by Huy given everyone else's response.

  • Thanks OP..How long is the warranty on this pls.. and do you claim replacements from Telstra or Google?

    • +1

Should be able to claim via Google with IMEI. Same warranty (2 years)
