33% off RRP Pirelli Tyres Online @ Mycar Tyre & Auto (Formerly Kmart Tyre & Auto)

510

Book on 4 June 2021 and fit by 30 June 2021.

Two thirds as good as the previous 50% off deal last year, but a decent deal nevertheless.

  • Bought P1 x 4 for $420 from them plus $150 off for log book service a week ago.

    Cannot recommend Mycar/KTAS

    • Why not ?

      • +6

        1) When it was KTAS (North Rocks, NSW), they did a wheel alignment and I ended up with toe-out, instead of toe-in (and my car dictates quite a lot of toe-in!) Having said that, I brought it to another place to have it corrected, and while they managed to get it toe-in, the steering wheel was no longer centered and the car wouldn't drive straight. I fixed it myself after that.

        2) At Mycar (also North Rocks), I originally brought my wheel in because there was a screw in the tread and I wanted the tyre plugged. I know there are times you can't plug a tyre (and most people might recommend against it — fine), but in this case it was obvious when they removed the screw that they intentionally ripped it out in a way that caused the most damage to the tyre as possible. In other words, if they had simply unscrewed the screw, the tyre would have had a screw sized hole in it. Instead they ripped it out with pliers (out of my sight because they wouldn't allow me in the garage due to 'safety reasons') and somehow managed to create a tear in the tyre a good inch long, which obviously then could not be plugged. I should have just plugged it myself — lesson learned.

        3) They decided to change the tyre in the carpark instead of bringing the car into the garage, and the guy rammed the handle of the trolley jack into the door of the car that was parked next to mine. He just acted like he didn't even notice.

        3) They put the spare tyre back in the car (under the car) but didn't put the tyre change kit (jack etc) into the tyre before doing so, which meant extra work for me when getting home.

Having said that, I've had mediocre experiences at a number of local tyre shops/mechanics. I miss Eastwood Tyres.

        • Wow what an experience!

          • +3

@dandoon: I should also add that it changed management between the time it was KTAS and Mycar, which might have been the reason I decided to try them again. Or perhaps it was simply because I wanted to "get it done", and figured that any idiot could change a tyre!

On the upside, they managed not to scratch my 6 month old alloy rim in changing the tyre (not that there is any reason it should get scratched), which I regarded as a reasonable win, considering their apparent ineptitude on most other counts!

            • +2

@dcash: oh that's great to hear - I had a corolla with rims a few years back and the dealership service centre scratch both my front rims during a service by laying them flat on their face… sometimes these guys aren't all there.

              • +3

@dandoon: Ouch! Yeah, you're right about that. Frankly I dread any time I have to bring my car in for service, because no matter what they do, they usually seem to manage to bugger something up.

Off topic, but I could mention another tyre shop/mechanic in my area who essentially pulled my entire dashboard apart in an effort to change a cabin filter (one that HE insisted on changing, not me) which was actually accessed via the engine bay. To make matters worse, I ever told him it wasn't under the dashboard, but apparently he and his Youtube tutorials knew better! Lol. First and last time at said mechanic!

                • +1

@dcash: Classic ahahahahahaha, no I totally agree - I try to most of what my car needs myself. Don't trust no one no more.

        • While my experience with them (the same North Rocks store) haven't been this bad but wasn't good either. I wasn't asked or told about a wheel alignment and when I came back to pick the car up, a $69 charge was added for a wheel alignment. The on duty manager said oh sorry three bags full sir yeah the guy should've told you about it on the work order etc I'm happy to refund or credit you for the $69.

Then my car's rear end got a little twitchy. Low and behold some genius have thought pumping 40+ psi into the rear tyre was a great idea. The same manager argued if they don't pump that much into the rears I'll be back at their shop in 10k km time complaining why my tyres have worned out. The manufacturer specified 34psi for a reason.

    • +4

agreed, they have no care for your car.

      • +4

Their slogan is "people first". I guess "car second"?

  • I wonder if i can just collect the tyres without getting them fitted? I pick up my new ite on July 2nd

    • You will be able to choose the date you want them fitted, i got mine fitted about 3 months after the 50% off sale last year

    • Probably no - book on 4 June 2021 and fit by 30 June 2021.

    • Surely you won't need tyres for a few years?

    • Hi Heal, tyres will need to be fitted to the vehicle between Friday 4 June and Saturday 10 July 2021 :)

  • I am not quite sure if I should go back to mycar .

A few months ago, I had my mum's car service at one of their store, they recommend me to have all four tires replaced.

However, when I picked up the car and got home, I found the tyre is not the correct one, the configuration is wrong. I waited a full month to have it fixed.

On the another hand, replace tyre is not technically hard, and this time we purchase tyre first. So I'm not sure if I should go back to my car, but I really need tyres for my own car…… Damn

    • Hi ads-fc,

Sorry to hear about this, more than happy to assist you on this, if you still need some assistance in relation to your mum's vehicle then please feel free to reach out with the vehicle details and any additional information to [email protected]

Hopefully we are able to help you out with tyres for your car too!

      Thanks

33% isn't much considering their "RRP". Do a comparison before you buy. For instance my tyre is $450 after discount, but another store is listing for $390 and I can get it now

  • I had a positive experience at the Brandon Park store in VIC. Got my new tyres fitted in Feb as part of the 50% off deal

    • Hi dny, this is great to hear! Hope you are enjoying those Pirelli's :)

  • Still have 80% tread on the P7s from 50% off deal last time around.. Very good tyre

  • -1

Are they noisy tyres? Mine is a Mazda 3 so prefer quiet tyres. Any recommendations?

    • I've been really happy with Pirelli in terms of grip and road noise. Wear rate is average but that's to be expected with grippy rubber.

    • -3

"Are they noisy tyres?" is equivalent to asking "is that movie good?"

Which movie? What genre do you like?
Which tyre? What is your use case - comfort, handling, longevity?

    • +1

I got Mazda 3 as well. No difference with Toyo due to Mazda 3 has noise problem

  • Bugger, would have saved me 70 bucks on the couple of Pirellis I had fitted at Bob Jane a couple of weeks ago. (Scorpion Verde all season 225-70-16, $188)

  • Tyres for my cheaper at the dealer.

  • My local was OK for the last deal. I got 4x Pirelli tyres for my 2010 X5 with the 50% off deal.
They are excellent tyres, and are much quieter + better grip than the Kuhmo's they replaced (not surprising I guess).
The service was fine; but I've only ever been there once.
    HTH

    • Hi bigjobme860, glad to know you are enjoying the tyres! :)

  • +2

Allow me to temper the usual hate that MyCar gets on OzBargain. I purchased 4x Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season 102H 225/65R17 tyres last year when their 50% off deal went berserk. They did a great job fitting them and when I punctured one a couple of months ago they fixed it under warranty without fuss.

    • +1

Hi WrightRightWriteRite, this is great to hear, so glad everything went well for you and the tyre was fixed with no issues for you! Thanks

  • I assume they won't jack up the price by 33% on the 4 June?

    • They didn't during the 50% off Black Friday sale.

  • Today paid $748 for 4x Michelin 225/60R17 99V in Costco, not bad.

  • go to my mycar. I'm quite happy, i swapped out 3.5 sets of tyres.

  • Mycar is great for price matching and mixing in extra deals like FlyBuys.
Got four wheels replaced today. Got a price match at https://continorth.com.au/product/continental-contipremiumco…
For Continental ContiPremiumContact 2 225/55R16 99Y TL XL ML CPC2 MO
$189 each and buy 3 get one free
Fitting and balancing was $15 each (x4)
Wheel alignment was about $62 (I thought $69 but overall price was $7 less than I expected)
Also got $100 back from flybuy as we spent >$500 at myCar so real cost was $589.00

I think the FlyBuy deal may have run out today though.

  • Great timing! Needed some new AT tyres

Purchased a set for the other car during the last 50% sale. Fitting date got pushed back a few weeks because of stock delays but once they arrived it was quick and easy.

    • Hi Darki, excellent, always good when the timing works perfectly! :)

  • My first visit to KTAS I was super happy with them. Went back 2 years later and there was a different manager who added services I did not ask for but was expected to pay for.
So hard to find a trustworthy tyre store that knows what they're doing.

  • Any ideas why mycar didn’t have deals on Continental?

  • Anyone else having certificate issues trying to get on their website ?

    • Hi Danstar, we believe there might be a current issue with some versions of firefox, we are currently working to resolve this. However, if you are able to use another browser, then you shouldn't have any issues. Please feel free to reach out if you are still having problems. Thanks

Any idea how these tyres compare to the Bridgestone RE003s?

  • +1

    Bob Jane Price match.

    • It turns out to be $1 cheaper at bob jane so no price match lol.

      • Their policy states 10% lower than the best price
Edit: Oh I see Bob Jane now have their own 35% off sale… That wasnt active when I price matched this morning at 8am !

    • This.

  • anyone with experience . For honda Odyssey

    215/60R16 99V
PIRELLI CINTURATO P6 99V or BridgeStone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 ???

  • Booked in for 4 x Scorpion Verde All Seasons tomorrow morning! Thanks OP :)

  • I grabbed 4 x Cinturato P7 for $476 fitted happy with that. They're 205/60/R16s going onto a Mazda 3. I've been running the OEM Toyo Nanoenergy they've lasted well but they're very noisy at 100/110. I've never had Pirellis before and was tossing up between these and Michelin Primacy 4 STs, I don't think I'll ever see price for a set of the Michelins starting with a 4 however, or a 5.
