This is a good smart charger if you dont want to spend big $$ they are about $35-36 del to AU

It also includes a car charger for charging on the move ;)
Best buy I've seen are the LSD NiMH batteries from Hobbyking $1.29 each and good shipping rates. I've had some for almost a year now and they are very good in everthing including digital cameras. Beware cheap batteries / batteries from ebay; I bought some 'Beecroft' NiMH batteries and they only lasted 2 years of moderate use - which is pretty poor.
Used these for a while, seem good and well rated for DX.

This is a good charger too

mixed bag. most are crap. read the reviews and get an idea. they are mostly good for low drain goods.
The charger is the most important part of your purchase. I have a Jaycar electronic one (about $70) but it seems to kill the cells if I leave them in there in trickle charge.
The Maha chargers are apparently the go. I saw an excellent webpage recently that compared the chargers and what worked well. I remember that there was one Sony charger that was bad, and one that was good… but cannot remember how I got to the webpage.
This thread on Whirlpool is awesome (but a massive read). This link gets you into the middle of it, but there's 40-odd pages:

This is a good video for comparing Maha (Powerex) chargers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyKmh5FVbEc
