Wife: just going to Aldi. Do you need anything?

Me: a tin of 5 bean mix oh and a plasma cutter

    Wife: ok

Can openers are so unreliable, aren’t they?

  • +2

Now the wait for Bunnings to pre-emptively match/beat these prices…

Plasma cutter is just a beefy blowtorch right?

    Sear that sous vide steak!

    • +1

How dare you talk about the forth state of matter in such disparaging terms!

      • That was nothing but the highest compliment - A portable beef BBQ is nothing to blow off

If you turn your rump into an aerosol though, that's nothing but user error.

Time to indulge those bank heist fantasies

      The Aldi thermal lance….only $499!

    • +1

Would be poetic if Aldi plasma cutter was used to rob an Aldi

  • Might have to grab the hose reel after my good Alemlube one shat itself. 9m is probably too short though :/

  • Anyone know much about painting the exterior brick on a house? Do I just need one of these air compressors with a paint spray attachment? Or does anyone have any advice?

    • You can do it with a brush/roller… this just makes it quicker. If you are using water based paint you just need to thin it with - you guessed it, water - to use in one of these spray guns

    • maybe an airless sprayer is better? depends on how big an area you want to paint.

      • What's the difference sorry? House is probably 10mx20m for full exterior

    • +1

My 2 cents.. Brush and roller would be cheaper and you wouldn’t need to worry about overspray, especially if there is wind and you are near neighbours. Painting using a roller and brush is like cooking: the cooking and painting part is relative quick the prep and cleanup is what takes most of time. Once you’ve setup the painting process is just a quick as spraying would be especially if it’s your first time. Admittedly cutting in with a brush can be annoying as a first timer.

      • The brick is a bit porous and holey so my thinking was a roller would miss a lot and I'd inevitably be painting ach brick by hand then. I was thinking a sprayer would get those holes a little easier

  • No CFM measurement listed for the air compressor, most likely very light duty I'm guessing?

    • It will probably be similar to the older taurus one, which was a loud unit

      http://www.discountstoresau.com/catalogue/images/aldi-catalo…

      • Makes sense, cheap direct drives are usually pretty loud

If that CFM is accurate then that's pretty good for the price, I'm guessing that it would struggle to output anywhere near that airflow at high PSI

  • Are there any alternatives to this vertical compressor? Quite like the form factor but not liking my chances of getting one from Aldi

    • +1

I think the search term you want is "upright air compressor". Sydney Tools has this: https://sydneytools.com.au/product/fendi-fen50-50l-2hp-oil-f… (and also a 30L shorter version), but I can't find any reviews on the Fendi brand. Total tools has this https://www.totaltools.com.au/117585-ironair-2-5hp-60l-verti… for $399 ($100 off) - obviously not in the same price ballpark, but the reviews I saw of the brand (Ironair) were good.

I've been tempted by this Aldi compressor before, but if something goes wrong, I suspect all they can do is give your money back - they probably don't have facilities to fix it and since stock is so sporadic, replacement is unlikely. I prefer to check what bunnings have when they match price - they have a Ryobi one: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-40l-oil-free-upright-air-c… but that is only 8 bar / 115 PSI and 170 l/min (6 cfm), and a 40L tank. Plus the one review there says it is overly loud.

So I am tempted by the Fendi, but really, I should just stop buying tools I don't have much of a need for.

      • Cheers, I did see the Fendi, but the lack of reviews/information made me a bit reluctant to jump on it.

The total tools one is out of my budget, as it's more for 'hobby use' (not entirely what it will be used for yet)

Guess i'm stuck trying to grab an Aldi one when it becomes available!

    • "not liking my chances of getting one from Aldi" - is this stuff typically like Black Friday doorbuster difficult to get? I've only once specifically went to buy a "special buy" item at Aldi - rocked up late in the day and had no issue getting what I needed.

      • They usually only have 1-2 per store, so can sell out pretty quick!

    • +1

they sell all the good stuff on saturdays to make it easier for you to get there

  • +3

Any better work station for around the same money? Even $100 more

    • Also interested in what's generally available…

  • “On sale Saturday 5 June” - ok where’s my time machine….?
