So I went into the Good Guys on the weekend to price washing machines and ended up in the TV section ogling the OLED TVs as I often do. I already have a 55-inch Panasonic OLED and have been keeping my eye out for a bargain on 65-inch LG OLEDs. Since new stock seems to be pretty much completely depleted across the country on the previous models and the new models are out of my price range I thought I'd be waiting til next year to upsize. I'd never considered a display model OLED for all the reasons you'd expect - burn in, reduced lifetime from being on over eight hours seven days a week for a year – but when the sales guy offered a price around $2,000 I was forced to reconsider. Reconsidered all night and went back the following day with a video file of colour slides to look for burn in and couldn't see anything.
Long story short, ended up getting the 65-inch CX display model for $2,200, with 5 years of the GG Concierge extended warranty service that I was told includes burn in and dead pixels. Out of interest, I went to JB just 100 metres away and they also only had the display model left but the best they could do was less than $100 off the new price, coming to about $3,400 - that seemed pretty poor. Anyway, am just wondering if people think I've made a stupid purchase or I've nabbed a bargain? (Although I guess the real answer will depend on whether anything goes wrong with the TV or not).
PS. They also threw in free delivery (usually $50) and the TV qualifies for the one year of free Disney+ promotion they have running at the moment.
Bargain at the moment, will depend on how much they drop in future
