Need Good Car under $10K

Hi there,

Need help looking for a good car under 10k.

Requirements :

KM : 160,000 Max

Transmission : Automatic

Looking for something sporty nice looking and comfortable. Something in the coupe/sedan shape. Was looking at some of the bmws and similar cars. Don’t mind if there’s minor mechanical issues as I could get that sorted.

Thanks!

    1. Buying used car in this climate…
    2. 10K budget
    3. Looking at BMWs

There's nothing more expensive than a cheap BMW.

  • BMW minor mechanical issues cost as much as major ones from non euro makes

my vote would be a mx5 for sporty under 10k

A used mazda3 - sporty enough? 10k doesn't buy a crazy nice car, especially not with COVID inflated pricing. haha

So it’s true, people still seeking for a philosopher's stone…

Mate, you'd be lucky to get a "good" automatic under the 10k mark in this car market. Tough luck looking for something sporty. Unless you have 0 care for reliability and safety.

Helped a friend of mine look for a car, we hunted for ages to find a Honda jazz for 9k.

Maybe consider learning manual? They tend to be about 1k less

    Here are my picks.

1: Nissan/Infinity G35: Had one for 4 years. Solid car. Very comfortable. Looks stunning from the back.

2: Audi TT MK1: Had two of these. Also a great car and looks excellent. And will be a future classic. Mine never gave me any issues, however I had a manual (VW/Audi autos of this era did have some issues).

Honestly if you can drive Manual you might open up some better options. (Renault Sport Clio/Megane etc).
I would advise against any BMW made from the late 90s until about 2013.

    • what about e36 or e46 ? I used to play with Audi TT in Midtown Madness 2 :D

Good automatic car, any kind, under 10k….

To do this, recognise you are in the most competitive part of the market. If you add small to the list of things you want, it gets really tight.

Best off to get a babied car owned by a sedate driver that has garaged it always and serviced it properly. Once you get it, have an expert mech change the transmission and other fluids and then keep the servicing up.

Such cars are few and far between, but easier to find in the outer suburbs when looking at mid-spec sedans

  • Toyota Camry. Any year.

  • A 15 year old South Africa 2006 BMW you will get for 10k will cost you at least 5k a year. Be realistic and get a Toyota Corolla or Camry or reliable Japanese car.

    • will cost you at least 5k a year.

Not true at all if you take it to someone actually knowledgeable with BMWs, such as an independent BMW mechanic. It is possible to find reliable and cost-effective maintenance.
