Key Features:
Multipurpose kitchen knife great for most cutting tasks and ideal for an up-and-down cutting motion
Blade core is made of VG10 super stainless steel consisting of three significant metals: cobalt for hardness, molybdenum for corrosion resistance, and vanadium for low wear and tear
Core is covered by two layers of high quality stainless steel on each side, rendering a three-layered blade that resists slight chipping, breaking, or rusting
Has a blade hardness of approximately 61 degrees on the Rockwell scale, an unprecedented strength for kitchen knives
Heated in a very hot kiln, ice hardened, then tempered for in high temperature, making the blade corrosion resistant and extra tough
Blade is individually sand-blasted and honed by trained craftsmen with a double bevel edge at 12-15 degrees on both sides
Sleek black handle made of canvas-micarta—a heated and compressed resin and linen material that is water-resistant and lasts for decades—is tightly fastened by two strong stainless steel rivets for security
Solid forged stainless steel end and collar welded in invisible conjunction in between the handle and blade provide stability and a comfortable grip for the user
Adorned by a beautiful katana (samurai sword) wave line on the edge, that is reminiscent of the expert artistry put on forging razor sharp swords
Crafted in the heart of Seki, the Japanese capital for sword and knife-making for over 700 years
Lightweight and sharp knife that suits both left and right-handed users

  • Looks like the entire Yaxell range is on special, not just this knife.

  • Have the chefs knife, pretty good but they are no Shun. More like a Global one. Depends on how much you want to spend on your knife. Save up to get one good chef knife and a good sharpening stone and technique.

  • Vg-10 is a good steel.

I've never held this knife but it doesn't look particularly great in my opinion.

If you search my comments you can find me getting passionate about knives and maybe it would be useful to you 😏

Bottom line, I think you can do better for that price point.

    • Any recommendations?

At ~80something dollars it's hard to go wrong.

From memory it's cheaper to pay in jpy than let their website convert to aud.

    • Seems to be the same conversion on AUD website

    Nice, cheers for that!

Got one. Great knife and prefer it over my Shun. I find the handle more comfortable and there really is no discernable difference between the steel of both.

Bought one last special price moment. Personally, I think it's better than Shun which is definitely an overpriced brand.

Agree with the comments, I personally think this knife is better then any of the Shun knives I've used. Nice weight balance and handle size. Not quite as good edge retention as my tanaka but definitely better then my Global.

I have 3 knives from the Mon range, and love them. I also have a Global knife block and knives on the kitchen bench which is used on a daily basis, but the Mon knives are kept in the drawer and used for particular knife work such as julienne and brunoise. They hold their edge very well, and feel good in the hand. Recommended!
