Ortofon O2 Headphones $90 + $7 Delivery @ Melbourne Hi-Fi

60

Same price for the O-one
Not sure how good these are as they seem to be quite unknown but the reviews I've seen have mostly been good. Used to be 150 USD at Walmart and 200 USD at Amazon in the past, so $97 seems quite affordable, not bad for any headphone addicts who want to try a new pair. I think these were released in 2004 so they are quite an old pair of headphones.

Quick look around tells me these are rebadged Ultrasone HFI-450s, which have nice mids but are super dark as you move past the mid-treble (which apparently has some sibilance issues due to pinna gain). These are headphones that seemed to drop off the map in 2010, likely due to the Audio Technica M50 (not the M50X).

For less money, you're better off with the Creative Aurvana Live SE off Amazon for $75-$90, which is a refined and updated version of the original CAL and won't cost you so much treble while delivering the same signature as these supposedly do.

Alternatively, you can look at the AKG K361 for a little less bass and likely better mids, again while retaining treble, and those are $115 on Amazon.

Outside of those two, you've also got the Takstar Pro 82 v2 (similar to the K361) or the Takstar GM200 (competently bass-boosted Pro 82) from the TakstarAudio store on AliE for $75-$85 depending on when you buy, and the AKG K371 (more bass and better treble than the K361) if you want to reach a bit further at $150-$180 off Amazon.

    • how would these compare to the b&w p5 wireless?

of course different price category but i'd be after something around that with the same feature set

      • B&W house sound is warm, dampened in the upper mids and lower treble, with decent extension, and they tend to lack resolution, which would be further dulled by the BT codecs.

If you have Amazon Prime, I would probably look at the CAL SE, as I mentioned above: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B07MF7J3JK/

    • Thanks for the info
Unrelated to these but do you know much about the Focal Listen Wireless?

I know the Focal Listen aren't worth your time, so the Wireless version likely has a lot of issues associated with it. If the AKG N700NC M2 get regular stock again (unlikely for the moment), look into them at around $100-$130.

Bluetooth headphones will be going through a bit of a revolution in 6-12 months through LC3 and LC3Plus, so I wouldn't seek to grab anything right now.

We bought a couple of pairs of N700NC Mk2 cans (@ $99 each) for general podcast listening, but they're surprisingly good for MP3s over BT.

  • You’re awesome, thankyou!
