$1689 is not a really good price. Even that's for 2 people.
Usually you pay $800 -$1000 for a return flight with Air China or other Chinese airlines.

$1689 for a single return would be far from a bargain - and this is plus another set of taxes e.g. $2-300, so probably close to $2000 for 2, or around $1,000 each. Doesn't seem much of a bargain - and it needs two to fly.

  • Its $1649 from Melbourne - which INCLUDES the taxes on the second flight.

What isnt clear is whether both tickets can be used on the same flight.

  • I've been checking tickets to Beijing yesterday from Mel and return ticket can be had for <$800 on China Eastern and China Southern.

  • Yes look to getting a flight with a Chinese airline, they have cheaper fuel cost and are subsidized by their government making their flights much cheaper, while on the flight though, take a box of 20ml UHT milk serves for tea/coffee on the flight to avoid any melamine in the milk.
