Just bought this on the weekend using the 10% cash back through Cash Rewards.

Surprised by this little setup. Good quality as I’ve never owned Hisense. Setting it up was really tricky though.

  • I feel like this would differ greatly to a true Atmos experience…

    • At this price of course. But great price for a budget "Atmos" soundbar/sub set up. They rarely go below the 400-500 mark till now.

      • I guess so. Just hate how these companies advertise Atmos on their soundbars. It's just BS to trick people.

      • Does it make differences having Atmos and none?

        • +1

Personally, you won't hear any difference coming from a soundbar, as opposed to dedicate 5.1.2 setup.
It's limited to how much sound it can "throw" virtually to simulate ceiling speakers from a soundbar.

  • wanting it but the code MAYHEM isn't working, it says its entered but it isn't dropping the price for me :(

    • +1

Works for me. It's case sensitive.

      • nope showing up as $299, it won't take the 15% off it now just says "You have entered a duplicate promotion code "MAYHEM""

        • +1

I just tried and it works. Try another browser

@Shef3000: Tried another computer and my phone, no love. i ended up phoning them and they processed it manually then sent me an offer, I lost the 5% cash reward but got the main deal.

NFI what i was doing wrong.

  • +1

Just picked it up. Moving on from a Yamaha YAS-108b and I'm very happy so far.

  • can you pay with good guys gift card to get further discount and is this a good soundbar for a small home theater setup or better off getting something else cheers

    • I have been monitoring low end Atmos soundbar/sub systems, past discounts rarely go below 400-500 range. This is as low as you can get for a known brand.
If you want the full Atmos experience, you'd need time and $ to set up a dedicated system with multiple surround speakers (easily in the 4-figure range).

        Thanks for that info Buy2Much.

Have you done much research on this soundbar & sub? I've spent last hour trying to do some research and have only found some reviews on the good guys website.

I managed to find the model number: HS312. Sounds silly, but it wasn't as straight forward as googling giving me the answer within the first page.

Anyhow, have you managed to find reviews and if so - what is the general consensus? Also, did you decide to buy it?

I'm looking at buying something for my lounge room - so I can get a decent experience watching movies (such as star wars). I know it won't be as good as expensive soundbar/sub systems whereby you can hear tie fighters go from the left to the right of the room, but is this something that'll come close?

        • +1

Personally I am saving up for a Sonos set up. But the customers reviews for the Hisense look positive enough (4.5 out of 5 stars from 9 reviews). Their 3-year warranty also gives some confidence. If my budget for an Atmos soundbar system is in the $500-600 range, this Hisense is what I'd buy at the current sale price, under $250 after CR cashback, no other brand/model comes close at that price (under $400 are usually normal sound bars, no Atmos).

          • @Buy2Much: Is this the best one I can get right now for $250?

            • @kypermaster: I believe so for reasons mentioned above. 'Hard to find a known brand Atmos soundbar/sub system for lower than 400-500 normally.

  • Is this the best one I can get right now for $250?

  • Just to confirm, this has hdmi arc which means the volume on it will change with the normal TV remote correct?

    • The spec said it does have HDMI ARC so must be.

    • Yes I just got mine, and it does

      • Yeah I picked mine up earlier and set it up before. I forgot what base sounded like

Just saw this, bought it and picked it up in 15 mins, set up the same hour and it's awesome. Definitely worth the money. Thank you!

I wasn't immediately impressed out of the box but after playing with the equilizer/bass/treble adjustments, things are sounding a bit better.

    • I just purchased mine 30 minutes ago. With the CR (already tracked) and Latitude Pay - I've paid ~$199 - couldn't pass that up. I'm glad that you're impressed (after tweaking) with this purchase so far (and that you commented about it) - makes me feel better about the purchase. In a previous comment I mentioned that I could barely find any reviews.

I hope it's impressive for action movies!

      • I'll get more of a chance to play with it tonight. Let us know your thoughts once you've had a go too!

        • Let us know how you go with it tonight. Been thinking about this one back was put off because of the lack of reviews outside of TGG. Was also looking at Samsung HW-T650 given the review on rtings.com

          • @Applause: I really wish rtings did the Hisense brands. There's at least Hisense that IMO are worthy of a review.

            • @eltito: Yeah was looking for their review on this one before. Had a thought maybe they didn't sell Hisense soundbars in the US but their website says they do but not this model.

        • yes please! I won't be able to pick mine up until tomorrow after work, but I'll make sure to leave a review here and on GG to help future potential buyers.

        • Yes pls let us know what u did!

Okay so keeping in mind I'm not a sound engineer or even especially an audiophile so I'm lacking in the vocabulary to explain…

          • The 'sound stage', if you will, sounds pretty good, like sounds feel independent from each other and there's movement as the direction of the sound changes.
          • Some audio/dialogue just sounds a bit flat. Maybe you'd say it's the mid range that's missing. The treble is there and bass is nice when it kicks in but there just seems to be this gap between them.
          • The volume itself seems really loud, like, too loud. I've generally had it on level 5-7 of a maximum of 50, as any higher is getting obnoxious. Maybe that's somehow related to/causing the above, like, is the volume too low for that range to come through? I wouldn't have thought but I'm searching for reasons.

I really want to like them but at the moment it doesn't feel like a huge upgrade over the previous setup, which is a decade old CD/HIFI stereo system connected via the headphone jack. At the 'normal' price I'd be feeling pretty bad about the purchase, that's for sure.

          • +2

@iJebus: One week later and I'm pretty happy. Probably just me getting used to it being there but I don't notice the 'flatness' anymore.

    • +1

What sort of adjustments have you made? I have mine currently on the Movie EQ and have Bass at +7 and Treble at +5 and it sounds pretty good, but it makes me wish there was some sort of companion app for creating custom EQ profiles.

My only complaint is that the audio sounds a little tinny at lower volumes which my old trusty Sony soundbar never had an issue with.

      • +1

We're much the same, I am on the Movie EQ with Bass and Treble +5 each.

audio sounds a little tinny at lower volumes

Maybe that's the problem I was trying to describe in my second dot point.

        • +1

Yeah it seems like the same sort of issue going on. I also noticed that when playing my PS5 the sound was super bare and had no bass and after playing with the settings and setting the PS5 audio Priority to Dolby, I was then getting a nice solid sound with plenty of bass.

Also probably worth mentioning that I had to set the audio format to 'None' on my Hisense TV as having it on RAW and PCM gave me a really noticeable audio lag.

  • Bought it just before midnight and received the email saying it tracked.
