Portable Barbeque BBQ Machine Winter Sale

Hi All,

We are after a portable BBQ Gas machine for our apartment (this will be in our balcony). We got few friends coming to our house (7-8) and we realised it's time to buy a BBQ machine.

We do not have gas connection in our balcony but would like a portable burner which is hassle free maintenance. Looking at some products from BBQ Galore they come around natural gas and LPG gas. What's the difference between them ?

My Budget is around $350ish is that too low for a BBQ machine ?

Apologies in advance I have no such experience with BBQ machines and I would like to get into this !

We live in Sydney around Mascot NSW and would want to buy something tomorrow. Let us know if there's a good deal or anything you would like us to look into !

Thank you so much in advance … can't wait to get into the Aussie BBQ life

natural gas and LPG gas. What's the difference between them

Natural gas comes out of gas pipes, LPG comes out of gas cylinders. You say that you don't have a gas connection on your balcony, so you will need to buy an LPG BBQ.

You need to buy your first gas cylinder, but after that, you just exchange (for a cost) your empty one for a full one at a petrol station or Bunnings or somewhere like that.

    • Natural gas and LPG are two entirely different types of gas, requiring different types of regulators and burners.
LPG is a mix of Propane and Butane, Natural gas is as the name suggests.
Very dangerous to substitute one type of gas for the other.

Natural gas is delivered by main supply to your home, LPG is bottled gas. Unless you have a connection to the home gas supply on your balcony, you will need an LPG unit and gas bottle. The BBQs have different gas jets to accommodate the different types of gas.

Except for on OzBargain, they will henceforth be known as BBQ machines.

  • So I did some research and found Weber Q series 2000 or 2200. We need to be ready to feed 7-8 guests at times but mostly 4 people.
The baby Q series Weber is highly recommended but it’s too small I reckon.

The difference between the Weber 2200 vs 2000 is a thermostat in front. It’s $80 more too. Do you need the thermostat and worth the $80?
Please do note I’m new to BBQ thingy

    • What are you planning on cooking? If you are going to primarily do cooking which requires the lid to be open then don't worry about the thermostat.

Yeah. For 13-14 people the Baby Q will be far too small. Even the Weber Q will potentially be too small, depending on what you're wanting to cook.

We use a Weber Q for our family (4) and have used it with guests, but it can be a stretch depending on what/how much you're trying to cook on it.

It's also the higher hood, which IMO would easily be worth the $80 if you're wanting to cook large cuts of meat like roasts.

Get a Weber Q. Get the largest you can fit and afford. :) You'll be happy BBQ machining for many years.

  • we plan on doing BBQ like lamb cutlets, sausage, corns, steak, fish and eggs .. do we need the thermostat ?

I saw in Good Guys commercial we can get the Weber Q2000 for $408 (normally $469) but they do not have Q2200 which has the thermostat. If we go to Weber store in Supa Center online the Q2200 is $479.

Now guys please suggest if we should get the Q2000 or Q2200 ? Is there a deal in Weber Q2200 ?

    • +1

For this use case the higher dome of the q2200 is of no benefit, so just buy the cheaper base model

The q2000 will work fine and last you for ages.

Buy a weber. I have the thermostat model, personally I'd save your $80 and buy standard model. You won't regret it

  • Thank you guys. Bought the Weber Q2000 and the trolley along with Weber cover.

For Gas cylinder can I get it in Bunnings ? Which model do I get

    • +1

Simple option is just the 9kg swap and go.

  • I didn't end up buying the 8.5kg from Bunnings as it seemed too big and won't even fit inside the BBQ trolley also harder to move it around in the car for picnic.
I was gonna get the 3.4kg swap and go from Bunnings but they ran out of it and they did ask me to go there tomorrow.

Now do you guys know how long the 3.4kg lasts in terms of let's say ignition time etc ? We plan on feeding 8 people over the coming weekend and then few times just 4 or just the 2 of us.

8.5kg gas bottle will last over 36 hours worth of barbecuing time on a Weber Q according to TGG. So easily a good 12 hours+ out of a 3.4kg.

I don't personally understand the point of a gas fueled BBQ, it's not really BBQ at all, but enjoy it.

      • Awesome !! in that case I'll just get the 3.4Kg gas bottle.
Do you know if you can Swap and go to any service station or if I buy from Bunnings I have to go to Bunnings ?
The reason why I went for the gas fueled BBQ cause I am very new to this and Coal ones are a lot of pain after I did some research.

In terms of efficiency, the Weber Q series are excellent. As long as you ensure your fittings are tight and gas is turned off when not in use, your gas will last a long time.

      • Thank you I can’t wait to start the Weber Q2000 over the this. I plan to go to Bunnings tomorrow and get the Gas bottle 3.8Kg. I think it’s $52 for the first time and after that it’s Swap’n’Go for cheaper.

  • Guys I bought the 3.7kg Gas bottle today from Bunnings. The new bottle was $52.77 for the first time and it would be $19.27 next fill.
The new bottle was rusty and old. When I asked they said the company checks everything and it’s fine. Is this sort of thing normal or I was tricked ?
I also bought a pressure checker valve and the pressure was on the lower end of green but the gauge doesn’t tell me the pressure level.
