When the price is at the lower end of a cycle, Coles express with carsales -8 coupon and supermarket -4 docket and 5% off egiftcards is usually the cheapest place to fill up.

      • +3

Isn't carsales -8c a one off? Then you get -4c going forward?

      • coles myer and 5% off? Where :D ?

        • I usually buy the 5% off coles express one on Suncorp and save the group cards for groceries.

          • -1

@truetypezk: Suncorp 3% for Coles for me.
            Perx 4%

Whom gives 5% for Coles? Why is your Suncorp different than mine??

            • @affinity: Just checked and looks like the coles express cards have disappeared form Suncorp. They used to be 5% off.
Guess I have to use those group cards from Amex liquor deals next time.

  • My chopper is running cheaper 98 than they’d have.

How to do this thing please me and i've been trying and no luck fuel prices in my area is skyrocketingm

If it's too far, Costco Moorabbin has Unleaded at $122.7 [Membership Required]

    • +5

Hmmm, I think with Costco at one hundred and twenty two dollars a litre you'd still save money driving to this United ;)

  • Poor buggers are gonna get slammed.

  • +3

There are still a few low-mid 120’s around. Most likely won’t last long though. Good time to use that 7-11 price lock for those who don’t “teleport”.

  • United in the power, to drive a better deal

  • Nice, time to use my 5% off gift cards

In the NSW cycle, even the major brands are still around 130 as well.

Apparently Coles Express Dandenong has U91 for 79.9:

Petrol stations such as Untied and Metro usually has lower prices in comparison to other providers like BP/Shell.

Too far, bring it closer south.

I am paying 0.604CPL for LPG

    LONG LIVE LPG!!

    • Less than one cent for a litre… sign me up!

United Dandenong just opened, Opening Special, maybe yes, maybe no.

Same thing happened with United Cheltenham. Brand new servo being built there was always a black Audi R8 parked at the construction site (the developer perhaps)? When it opened it had the lowest prices the whole year and didn’t follow the price cycles - it basically snagged all the business from the surrounding servos.

The following year it went and sold at auction, and on the books they could say it had magnificent turnover and revenue. The new owners then began following the price cycles.

    • what a business strategy!

    • They only sold the property on a long lease

The business has not changed hands

You don't need to play this game anymore, when you switch to an Electric Vehicle.

    • +2

What makes you think they won’t tax your electric vehicle later?

VIC is already planning to do so.

      • What car uses just 2.5c/km?

        • +3

So they are going to keep the 2.5c/km tax forever, and never increase it, right? Because taxes never get raised, right?

It's a classic bait-n-switch by the government - provide initiatives to get something, and once everyone is highly dependent on it, raise the taxes for it, because people can't say "no" to it anymore.

          • @Blue Cat: Well excluding the TAX question, Fuel would have to be less then 20c/L to compete with an Electric Vehicle's fuel cost. Even less with solar. I can't see that ever happening!

          • @Blue Cat: I feel like they wouldn't take away incentives until climate change is taken care of, but then again the government doesn't care much about that, and climate change might end up killing us all anyway so 🤷‍♀️

        • 5.5c/km on LPG, thats with a big old antique V6 Commodore

On a new generation compact or a hybrid on LPG would be knocking on that low figure

          • @8200: So why do you think no one is making or selling them?

            • @ccspack: Lots factory made in Europe, Turkey and Asia, even by the likes of Audi, VW, Fiat, Renault etc

Even Ford and Ram offer pick ups with a "propane pack" ex factory so runs on that fuel

Nobody is importing them, that's the issue

The world has gone EV mad anyway

Alas GovCo prefers 38cpl excise TAX COLLECT on diesel and ulp than just 12cpl on LPG

I have had 5 LPG must have saved me over $20,000+ on fuel

Another fuel is BIO made from sugar cane crops, like Brazil use, Australia would be perfect for that too, but you would need a modified engine for it

              • @8200: So when I search for "LPG car" on Youtube, a few of videos feature footage of explosions. The same is not true when I change my keywords to "petrol car".. How safe are these things?

                • +1

@dibdob: The amount of "real world" explosions with LPG tanks is about as common as the amount of people who have walked on the moon, more likely to wins the Lotto 1st. prize

Pick up a LPG tank and then a similar capacity liquid fuel tank, chalk and cheese, the LPG is thick solid steel, the other is pressed sheet metal

        • well, it also cost $40k extra than a mazda 6, 40k worth of fuel will get you a lot of places

Servo's on Western Port are always cheap too

    • Slightly cheaper ~1-2c on Thompson road.

  • If I buy a few drums, will they include free interstate shipping?

    • 91 octane petrol is 119.9/L in Appin NSW, 121.9 at independents in Western Sydney, might be cheaper to ship from there…

Timely reminder that the 7-eleven hack still exists (works very well for iOS) users. After downloading and installing 3utools, it's 5 simple steps:
    1. Get the location for the cheapest price from https://projectzerothree.info/prices.php
    2. Get the lat/long coordinates for the suburb on Google Maps
    3. Hook up your iOS device to your computer
    4. Run 3utools and use the modify location tool to change your iOS device's GPS coordinates
    5. Sign in to the 7-eleven app and lock in the savings

    • What if I only have a mac?

      • Sorry buddy, I don't make the hacks. I just use them.

        • Nice hack, bud. Thanks for sharing.
I am sure there is a 3uTools equivalent for mac users, which we have to dig up ourselves.

Silly question: Once you have a price lock on the app, how do you pay for your fuel at the counter? Do you just scan your digital card / barcode on the app which would adjust the rate accordingly? (I haven't had a chance to use the app yet.)

          • +2

@DoctorCalculon: Digital card/barcode scan is correct—tell them you have a fuel voucher, and open up the barcode for them to scan. Get your receipt to confirm the correct price has been applied (and that they haven't sneakily added a chocolate bar to your order).

      • It doesn't look like 3uTools is available on the mac.
This really sucks as I have no PC at home, and the Windows machine that I have access to at work is locked down by the IT team.

      • I used iFakeLocation the other day and it worked. On a Mac (10.14.6) and iPhone 12 Pro (14.5.1).

    • Great website with prices, LPG at 60cpl is outstanding!!

    • There are GPS spoofing apps on Android, could these be used to lock in fuel prices as well?

      • For some reason they never seem to work on my Android (Galaxy S10). The 7-Eleven app picks up that the GPS is spoofed and prevents you from locking in prices until the spoofing stops.

  • how does anyone stay on top of the VIC yo yo :( - I only find out AFTER the dip and we are back at square one (top of the cycle).

    • +2

Observe the daily fuel prices when you drive past a servo, keep a mental note. Top of cycle is ~$1.60/L, middle ~$1.45, bottom ~1.30/L. Use PetrolSpy and Google ACCC Petrol to double-check any time.

    • +2

You need to know where the bottom is, which is typically the prices shown on the aip website.

As the price gets close to the prices on the aip site, you are at the bottom. The prices jump up by an obscene 45c after this. We may break 1.70 for standard 91 in the next jump.

    • thanks, sounds like i'm kinda going about it the only way possible… rough estimations and sighting price.

  • They will just agressively try to push to make you buy their fast food that is next to their counter

    • Lady serving me said nothing, I guess it depends on the person who serves you.

  • +1

Serious question, does anyone actually eat Pie Face ?

    • Has anyone actually bought any pies from pie face at any United stations?

Seems like a bad deal for United, they should have partnered with different food vendor.

  • Is this really a bargain in Vic?
I paid $1.21 today in Adelaide at my local united, why so much more expensive in Vic? (I'm guessing it's generally much higher if this is considered a bargain).

  • I just paid $40 for 22 litres in Victoria at Caltex

    For the cheapest fuel..

    Am I doing something wrong

    • Yes you are 🙂 use petrol spy most places in the metro area still have at least 1 servo within 5-10k's at under $1.30 also helps if you have fuel cans and fill at the bottom of cycle.at the moment the top to bottom is around 40cents so a 20lt container will save you $8 it won't take long to pay off the container cost

      • petrol spy is a 50/50 shot. half the time i turn up at the station and prices are not the same anymore.

        • ACCC website pages are pretty useless too, not updated frequently enough to be useful.

      • Thanks

  • Does the 711 or some apps still allow you to lock in the prices. Never tried it before but paying $1.77 when everyone else is paying $1.11 or $1.2 is insane

  • I've always questioned these price cycles. Are they in line with anything specific like barrells of crude increasing/decreasing or is it just a way for petrol brand scum owners to increase profits? Have we just gotten so used to it that we treat it like the norm now? Even the ACCC website is saying that these cycles where petrol can jump 10-30c/L is normal.

I live in the ACT where the petrol just sits on the same price all the time. It sometimes creeps up to match the average of other cities? Currently 139.9c.

    • Petrol station owners earn a pittance from the fuel they sell. They mainly earn their dough from stuff and food they sell in their shop.

  • LPG because it mainly comes from Western Australia and we are the biggest exporters in the world we pay 30 cents a litre more than anyone else in Australia. Cheapest I have seen in Perth is 97.9

    • +1

LPG is cheapest by far in Victoria, we are also the biggest users as a car fuel

Also confirmed @ .604cpl 7/11 Chaddy is the cheapest price in Australia

Most Shells [Dawson] are removing them :-( they where never cheapest anyway

After driving around in a PULP VW i am already pocketing the huge savings on LPG fuel!

  • I think this might be over, Petrol Spy now showing the same servo as $1.58.

  • petrol spy still showing fast fuel boronia rd wantina at $1.29 I can confirm it was that price at about 11:00 this morning when I called in and squeezed $16.00 worth into my tank
