Important Emails Not Appearing in Hotmail inbox

Hey guys,

Basically an important supplier of the family business is sending us emails weekly and we stopped getting them about 2 months ago.

And they're not in the junk folder.

Can someone tell me how to look at the filter and blocked user settings? I'm guessing they must only be on the web version of outlook as I can't see anything in the desktop app?

Cheers

important supplier of the family business is sending us emails weekly
    Hotmail inbox

    You answered your own problem

Step 1 on how to look like a dodgy business - use a Hotmail address.

      • But I thought Hotmail is Microsoft?

It is. But it was free webmail from 20 years ago. Not something a respectable business would normally use. It makes you look like a fly-by-night operator.

          • @Presence: Aah.. I see. The same thing could be said about Yahoo and Ozemail lol.

Can't view/change many settings in the app, use the webpage….Settings - View All Outlook Settings - Mail - Junk Email

Check they haven't been blocked but I'd add them to the safe list as well. You don't have focused inbox or something turned on do you?

Sounds like their mail server may have been blacklisted? does anyone else on hotmail/gmail accounts get their mail?

    • I didn't think of that.
Maybe they got blocked for spamming.
Would they still go through on Gmail if Hotmail server blocked them?

      • Maybe - I'm not sure if the big mail providers collaborate on blacklists. Either way - trying a different provider should give some useful info.

Click the settings cog on the top bar.
    View all settings
    Junk mail
    Blocked senders and domains
Then either search or scroll through
When you find the one you want, bin it.
It can take 24 hours before it updates properly

  • Thanks all. Will try the settings. Will also ask them to add the Gmail account and see if they come through there.

It's damn annoying. The only emails you really need are the only ones acting up lol

They are that important, that it took you 2 months to notice?

  • It may be worthwhile getting your supplier to lookup your details in their system to ensure that you are on their contact list for the weekly emails. Perhaps you were accidentally removed from their mailing list?

  • OzBargain account activation emails and newsletters are often blocked by Hotmail.com as well. SMTP log on our end always say "250 queued mail for delivery", but they never got into recipients' inbox nor junk folder.

I guess these are "Important business emails" as well :)

  • I've had the same problem where Hotmail, or Gmail will one day suddenly start eating emails and putting them literally nowhere

Ive checked all the settings in Outlook desktop app, in Mail W10 app, in Hotmail/Outlook web and it's not blocked, it's not in spam, it just vanishes.

I have no fixes for it.
I just ask the sender to send to my other email, hotmail or gmail.

It's happened with emails that i also used to receive without problem from people i know without a spamed or mocked email.

Email provider are just shit these days.

Try to send them the supplier from the affected Hotmail Email address and ask them to reply to your email. It might unblock the email address.

    Switch to gmail. Problem solved.

    Outlook is dogpoo.

Get yourself a Gmail business account (under $10 a month, 30GB) with your own domain name ($20 a year).

Otherwise, GoDaddy with provide you with your own domain name and Microsoft 365 email (10GB) for under $5 a month.

Nothing make businesses looks as unprofessional as a @hotmail, @yahoo, @outlook, @gmail.com etc email address.
