Clearly Contacts 50% off Eyeglasses and Lens Upgrades

80
AUSTRALIA50

Australia Day sale, 50% off eyeglasses and lens upgrades, also free shipping with code FREESHIP (free Australia Post or 50% off courier).

Looks like a good deal, a typical $150.00 frame with all the lens upgrades (1.67 index with extra coatings) plus courier and insurance add up to: $169.50.

For example:

Frame: $75.00 (reduced from $150.00 with code AUSTRALIA50)
Lens: $49.50 (1.67 index, reduced from $99.00, would be nice if they offer 1.71 index)
Coating: $19.95 (bundled price, no discount, or individually $9.95 which qualifies for discount, but cannot take all 3 coatings without bundling, would have been cheaper to pay 50% of the full price)
Delivery: $6.50 (courier reduced from $13.00 with code FREESHIP, yea not really free unless opting for Australia Post)
Insurance: $18.55 (mandatory)

I have not ordered from Clearly Contacts before so cannot comment on the service and quality, would appreciate if existing customers can post a review.

Periodically Clearly Contacts gives away prescription glasses (admittedly from a limited set of frames) and all you pay is the shipping cost of about $15. Clearly? this is a much better deal when available….my wife got a pair in Guess frames in one of these offers she is quite happy with.

The only thing worrying me about these guys is that people have said private health insurance won't cover them.

    • Apparently, most do, but not all. I think fund details were on the invoice.

If you're looking at something cheap, it's not that big a deal, but if you were considering something a little more pricey, it may be a deal breaker. Might be worth calling first and confirming.

      • I buy contact lenses from Clearly Contacts all the time for three family members for about 40% of the optometrist price here (exactly the same product!!) and claim on my private heath fund. No problem. While they are based in Vancouver, BC they have an Australian based subsidiary that issues paperwork acceptable to private health cover here.
I also just once ordered lenses from a Singapore based company without a local subsidiary and they DID NOT MEET the requirements of local private health, so be careful (they eventually took the lenses back after a lot of wriggling).

I bought contact lenses, and HCF did NOT refund.

"To find out if Clearly Contacts is a recognized provider with your fund, please call 1800 639 478."
On the phone they can say whatever they want, and then deny. Otherwise they would have done the effort and put down a list.
The neg is not against the deal, it is against the company.

the deal is offered by the company. you are actually NEGing the deal just because your insurance doesnt cover them.

I've ordered twice at ClearlyContacts during their previous promotions.

First time I had to send the glasses back as the frame was bent a little and I could not adjust it to sit on my nose properly.
Second time I left the glasses for home use, but the quality was quite poor again. One of the plastic lens even cracked a bit after a few months of careful use, and the frame is very flimsy itself.

I definitely would not buy anything from them again. Even if you don't like the quality and you can ship back the order (reply paid), it still is not worth dealing with.

My wife bought glasses from them 10 months ago.
Glasses were being used daily and she likes them a lot.
They were actually on a "free" deal,
    just pay postage/insurance ie $13.

The small plastic bit that holds the arm to the lens
was deteriorating. So she called to ask what to do.
They sent her out a brand new pair without batting an
eyelid. And that's not bad service!

  • Can't find anything I like that doesn't have "Coupons not applicable" :(

  • I cannot vouch for quality as I have never ordered from any online site (bought my last glasses for $350 at an optometrist - no brand).

In Clearly Contacts, I found a simple black frame + 1.67 index lens + handling = $120 (after 50% off). Then I did my research of online reviews, there are mixed reviews for CC.

One thing that strikes out when reading reviews are the +ve ones that have bought from Zenni. So I ended up in that site and bought a simple black frame ($13) + 1.67 index lens($35) + s/h ($10) for $58. Hope they turn out well…
