$120 for a wired 3rd party controller? You can get 2x Microsoft branded wireless ones for that price when they're on sale!

But it says Pro on it.

All the Pro MLG gamers use… Power A.

I bought the Razer Wolverine Ultimate for Xbox One when it was on sale for $149 many years ago. It had most of the same features as the Microsoft Elite controller bar the fact it is wired vs. the Elite being wireless. Fast-forward three years later, I'm still using the same controller (i.e. no peeling rubber), it's still working just as well as new (i.e. no stick drift or dicky triggers), and all my friends who swore their Elite controllers were 'the best ever' are one their third or fourth replacements. From what I've seen in online reviews this Power A controller is just as good, although I haven't had one in my hands so I can't comment myself.

    • No doubt official Xbox controllers would be better overall value but the draw card here is the 4 paddles which the only alternative is $250~ Xbox elite or the cheaper powera spectra (only 2 back buttons though) these are more for people that play games competitively & would also be using wired connection to PC most likely.

Lol @ quick release usb cable being a feature on a wired controller

If you yank the cable and it disconnects, that can be better than a damaged cable. Also useful when packing away / transporting.

I agree and realise that. But it's incongruous to mention it as a selling point.. It should have just been wireless.

        • Why? If it works, don't fix it.

          • +1

@Chazzozz: Because the value would be better if wireless. $119 is a big price for inferiority.

            • @justtoreply: I don't get what's inferior about cable? No latency, no dropouts, no batteries to run out at an inconvenient time. Wireless is great when it's working, but when it isn't you just have a paperweight. I've had both wired and wireless controllers and I must admit I'm liking the latter far better. You could argue the cable is a trip hazard in a high traffic area, or that it limits how far away you sit from your console, but in my own experience I've not had trouble with either of those. Thus far all you've done is pooh-poohed the fact it doesn't have wireless, yet you've not made a single convincing argument why wireless is better. You'll have to put in a little more effort than that.

              • @Chazzozz: A) I don't know anyone with wireless dropouts
                B) same goes for latency issues
                C) I don't know anyone who sits within 2m of their tv. (Ok this product can use a longer usb cable)

                Conclusion: wired is a detractor.

How are you getting dropouts if you're so close to your tv? Doesn't seem possible.

                • @justtoreply: Ah! That's much better. If you don't make convincing arguments then you're descending the level of jv and, sadly, that spot is already firmly occupied. Try as you might, I don't think you'll get jv to shift.

I will concede that wireless devices have improved over the years where dropouts and latency are not what they once were. The time when your microwave oven (which operates in or near the 2.4 GHz band, which is what many wireless devices use) could cause interference is, thankfully, less often.
Similarly, low battery can also result in bad performance if the power is not enough to keep the device going. Latency is not as bad as it once was, especially for something like a controller, but it has been known to be terrible at times. In the past, it was generally conceded that cables did not have these limitations and were therefore superior.

The distance part, though, is definitely up for discussion. The cable that comes with this controller is 3 metres, which converts to 10 feet. I don't know that you'd want to sit any further away from the TV than that, unless you have a giant screen or are using a projector onto something the size of an entire wall. Any further than 3m away and I personally think you'd be hard-pressed to see things clearly. That's the length of the cable that came with my Wolverine controller and I find it's just perfect.

I still stand by my statement that simply dismissing a product out of hand just because it isn't wireless isn't doing it justice. I have no truck with you saying you disagree, but please do back it up with why.

I like wired controllers (and only use wired).

I refuse to game on any modern console because they have taken wired choices away from their customers and don't allow Airplane mode when gaming on the TV. Even if you use wired (as seen here), there is no way to completely disable wireless polling in the background from the console. Yet on the PC we can do that easily: it's called Airplane Mode. Silly to take that choice away from your customers, console-makers. Using wireless has very real health implications.

The price here is too rich for me. I have bought wired controllers from EasySMX on AliExpress in the past. I notice there is less choice now than there was when I last placed my order. It is a shame.

    ???

    • +3

A large % of gamers who use wireless controllers are fat and unhealthy

      Coincidence? I think not!

  • Thanks OP but I know for me..I would expect an official controller or a one that's compatible for multiple systems if at this price point.
