First Gaming PC for roughly $2k?

Looking at purchasing my first gaming PC and wanting to spend around the $2k mark. Given the current climate I'm more inclined to buy pre-built so that I can hook up and get going. As I know almost nothing about PC's I was just wondering if this pre-built machine from PLE is decent given the price?

The dell deal for $2,742.56 is amazing value considering it includes a 3080, you could resell the 3080 and end up with the rest of the pc for pretty cheap.

Do you have a monitor and peripherals already?

Right now, as crazy as it is, if you want something to just get going and aren’t planning on tinkering with it yourself, you can’t go wrong with a Dell prebuilt. They have some pretty good deals right now given the state of the GPU market.

Keep in mind some people think the GPU market will fall but I’m on the fence about it. If you want something now and for roughly that budget you’re not going to lose much even if GPU’s do go back to retail pricing with a Dell prebuilt.

    I’d recommend this:

    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-desktop-computers/alien…

Comes down to about $2,750 with LOVEKEANU code and shop through Cashrewards.

It has everything you need albeit it’s a shame the monitor is only 1920x1080 but at least it’s a decent refresh rate. Plus you’re getting a 3070 vs a 3060.

If you already have all the peripherals and monitor, try this one:

    https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-desktop-computers/alien…

Comes down to about $2,300 after the above code and method. Still with a 3070 upgrade as well.

If you want something a little less weird looking, try this one. Almost the same price as the PLE and a 3070 + 1TB NVMe included after code and Cashrewards.

Keep in mind these systems look fancy and all, but their cooling isn’t great. The included liquid cooling on the CPU helps but thermals in the case run warm. Plenty of DIY online for adding an additional case fan for $20 or so. But if you’re not someone to tinker and happy with decent performance and not bothered overclocking you shouldn’t have too many issues. Watch some YouTube reviews.

For the price, you’ll get similar specs to the PLE and a better GPU, with an easy warranty to deal with from Dell (can’t comment on PLE warranty but I’ve never had a problem with Dell returns or exchanges in the past).

Dell XPS 8940 Gaming PC w/ i7-11700 & RTX 3060 Ti for $1859. Although with less memory, 3060 Ti would be faster than the EVGA RTX 3060 XC in PLE's build. No fancy RGB lights around the case on that Dell unit, but I think some people might prefer that.

    • I’d factor in about $150 for a CPU cooler and additional fans and this will be a much better performer. The non K chips get the real small pancake cooler which is trash. Heaps of guides on google suggest replacing with a Noctua and getting a 20-30 degree temp drop on the CPU and no thermal throttling.

Still, cheaper than the PLE with a better card even after all that.

      • Where would you get the cooler from ?

        • Any computer shop or Amazon. Noctua would be my choice as would many others also choose this

  • Thanks you and is this easy to add to the XPS 8940?

  • Don't know exactly why everyone is recommending Dell prebuilts. Reviews for them are almost universally bad. Yeah their value is undeniable but once you open one up and look inside you see they've cut enough corners to make a circle
