The C1 is around the corner, the price will drop further I believe. Plus I watched some reviews and apparently the motion, upscaling and sharpness is way better on the C1

    • +12

The thing to look out for now is stock levels

      • Any C8 or C9 deals instead plzz?

        • C1 will be same price as CX in Nov Black Friday ! if you can wait

    • +6

Prices won't go much lower as a number of major retailers have already depleted their stock. If you want to get a brilliant television at around $1000 less than you'll be able to snare a C1 for a while, grab this.

I've had my CX 65" for about a month and am still blown away by the picture.

Yes, C1 may have some incremental improvements (which you would hope would be the case in a new model), but if paying more than $4,000 for a 65" display feels a bit over the top, then you won't be disappointed by the CX at clearance prices.

For noting: JB Hifi was cheaper delivered than this deal when I purchased mine last month, but this is a nice price.

      • +1

Exactly. JB now has below message when I checked

TGGs doesn't even have stock in any store when putting my postcode

      • Same! I recently bought a 48" CX (live in Japan) and am blown away by the image quality and functionality (it can output all audio to Bluetooth with small enough latency even to game). I paid about $1700 for mine.

    • +3

I bought supposedly one of the last two boxed 65" CX TVs from The Good Guys in Dandenong, Vic. for $3200.

  • Great TV

  • +3

Brilliant TV. Quite happy its held up its value too. Barely a loss from the price I paid when I bought it on its release. At least I've enjoyed it for a year already too!

    • How do you find the image retention or burn in on the screen? Keen to get some real world experience on this.

      • keen to know also, and black crush

      • I've got the 48 inch and use it as a monitor. No issues yet, been using it for a few months.

        • +1

How do you manage with the size of it? Distance from desk, window sizing apps?

          • @RedSky: I don't mind the distance and working ok it. Sizing of apps etc had no issue. I came off a 34 inch wide screen so I was already used to having a lot of real estate to work with. I've seen some users complain of head aches etc but I'm loving it so far. Got a desk clamp that allows me to move it around and adjust as well.

            • @Ruddaga: How deep is your desk?

              • @cille745: Not very. Id say leaning back the distance is under a metre.

            • @Ruddaga: Interesting, I have the Xiaomi 34 at the moment, thinking of replacing it with new 48" when the C1 becomes afforable.

              • +1

@RedSky: I'm happy with it. Recommend it personally

      • +2

Rtings have a test on this for oled just do a quick google should come up.

      • Been using my LG C9 for a few years now and nothing of the sort and I use it ALOT and tend to sit for periods where it's paused and I play on my phone.

      • +2

Not the same model I know, but my experience with a 65" C9: bought in Jan 2020 on clearance pricing, it has so far seen around 1500 hours of usage (there's a running total in the settings UI). Never even the remotest hint of any image retention or burn-in. We use it as a regular TV watching netflix, disney+, prime video etc, with the occasional stints of broadcast TV. I also play a switch on it from time to time. Regular usage - it's usually quite rare you have a static image anywhere on screen - even the broadcast TV channels have actually made changes to their content so channel overlays are usually semi-transparent or disappear after a short period returning from ad break etc.

The burn-in anxiety is annoying though - if I'm playing the spotify app on it for example and I'm gonna be walking away for a while I set the screen to turn off (it's in power saving settings) if I'm just using it to play audio through the lounge speakers.

Definitely a fantastic picture, I don't think for most people burn-in will be much of a concern with "regular" usage.

However for people who watch a lot of CNN style channels, or perhaps lots of sport etc where there will be bright logos visible for long periods then yes I think burn-in is still a concern. The red pixels seem most susceptible to it, I know with the C9 they increased the size of the red sub-pixel so that they can run them at a lower intensity for the same output to help get around this kind of thing…

        Hope this helps!

        • great insight. and thanks for the running total tip, i had no idea

  • Got anything for the 77 inch?

    • +3

This is possibly the lowest advertised price ever:

      https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/oled77cxpta-lg-77-inch-4…

      • Hopefully it goes lower!

        • I dunno, the chip shortage news just recently popping up everywhere scares me even bmw, apple, sony and heaps of other things I never thought would be effected are currently effected and here I was just thinking it was cpu’s and gpu’s. There needs to be a huge bump in supply which there’s not and because demand is out stripping what they can produce I believe if you really need something nows probably the time or you’re gonna be left holding the bag which sucks for me building a home even my damn lounge I ordered got pushed back into mid july, I ordered it in Feb and it just got delayed again and it’s Australian made lol. Everything it seems is just not keeping up right now.

For reference from a bit over a year ago for the C9 - $2668 + delivery
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/518461

    • +3

      $700 cheaper a year ago wow :)

    • No doubt could have sold those for $700 more two months later when the covid boom kicked in. That's a massive reason why discounts are what they used to be, massive demand, and the entire supply chain is swamped making everything harder to get.

    • A lot changed in that time.

  • What's the big difference compared to my B8 from 2019?

I can see processor is faster. I can occasionally see tearing of the ball in sports.

    Is there anything else?

    • +2

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/lg-cx-oled-vs-lg-b8-…

Most significant change would be HDMI 2.1 and eARC.

      • -2

I'd say that 99.5% general populace wouldn't know what HDMI stands for let alone the new 2.1 standard. :)

        eARC? No chance.

But nice additions though I would not be using those.

        • +2

If you're not a gamer and don't have a nice stereo, you're probably right. But anyone who will get a PS5 or XSX (or hook up their gaming PC) will miss HDMI 2.1 for sure.

The eARC thing, yeah fair call. It might make it slightly less cabling for some, but mostly, if you're into audio enough to care about Dolby Atmos, you're probably not worried about getting it via your TV's HDMI

          • @TimR31: ahhhh getting the Dolby Atmos from the TV would be the source.. if you're streaming or using chromecast tv, ps5 etc. devices connect to TV's HDMI ports then eARC goes to soundbar. I really don't understand why people plug their devices into the soundbar to pass through video back to the tv.

            • @gizmomelb: Actually you make a fair point, the PS5 doesn't have any audio out apart from the HDMI, so you'd need an AV receiver if not for the eARC, and unless they are very new they probably don't support HDMI 2.1 either… And then you have the problems of some new AVRs saying they do, but then the implementation means the pictures don't work right when they do pass-through.

So yeah, eARC probably pretty handy if you are planning on using Dolby Atmos etc

              • +2

@TimR31: yup.. but even for BluRay players and set top boxes, personally I'd still plug them in the back of the TV and connect the TV and soundbar using the eARC port - that way you get full image quality and audio passthrough and don't have audio sync issues - which can happen if you connect the BD player into the soundbar and pass the video image back to the TV using the eARC connector.

SN11RG comments coming this weekend after I unpack it and faff about with settings so I'm happy with it and my CX.

                • @gizmomelb: Good tips boys. Thanks and will keep in mind. I am very happy with TV audio so will most likely never get sound bar.

                  • +1

@Naigrabzo: updating this even though it's an old post - I bought a CX and an LG SN11RG soundbar and discovered that while the SN11RG can decode DTS, DTS-HD and DTS:X audio you CAN NOT pass those audio streams through the TV's EARC connection to the sound bar.

So if you have BluRays or MKV files with only DTS audio, you need to connect your BluRay or MKV media player direct to the SN11RG sound bar's 2x HDMI inputs and the video signal is then fed back through the EARC port to the TV.

I tried for ages trying to get my chromecast with tv dongle to play DTS audio but the TV blocks it cold (you can decode the DTS to multiple PCM streams and pass it through - I use KODI as my media player) but I ended up digging out my old S905 Amlogic chipset media player (hacked android box running CoreELEC from a bootable SD card) and connected it to my soundbar so that DTS decoding would be handled by the soundbar and I also have the adaptive framerate working for watching movies (23.98 fps) and auto switching to 50 or 60 Hz for PAL or NTSC video source. The Chromecast with tv cannot do that currently.

Also I highly recommending checking out a soundbar (depending on your room layout where the CX is) as it makes a huge difference to movies (not so much for TV series, unless they're also in surround sound.. ie: For All Mankind is amazing in 4K with surround audio). I bought my SN11RG (last year's model) for $950 from TGG - this year's model is out and is about $1700 or so (SP11RA). After a bit of faffing about with speaker level volume, I'm VERY happy even after I compared it to my old DTS capable AVR and 5.1 speaker setup). 7.1 atmos when done well made me giddy.

          • +1

@TimR31: Hey mate, I found a problem with passing DTS through the TV to an external soundbar or AVR - the CX stops DTS streams dead with 'this codec not supported' type of message. If you have DTS audio files or BluRays you HAVE to connect the standalone player direct to the AVR or soundbar and the EARC port passes the video signal back to the TV (which may result in needing to adjust audio timing so there's no loss of synchronicity with the video). Sigh.

            • +1

@gizmomelb: Yeah known issue with the CX; really shitty given it's surely just a small cost saving and yet such a widely used format. You can work around it obviously, but yes, "sigh" indeed

  • +1

Zero burn in or retention. Was playing the PS4 on it ( until I traded it in to EB in Sept. Only picked up my ps5 last night. Wasted more than 6 months of my ps plus). Been playing the switch on it too and have the windows media centre hooked up to it too. No screen burn. Black crush … if there is any, I haven't really noticed it, or it hasn't been bad enough to be that noticeable. 4k bluray disc movies have looked amazing to me anyway.

    • +2

do you find brightness levels OK when viewing in a "normally" lit room during the day?

      • No problems. Have a window on the side wall with a translucent white blind. Would be 2.5m from the TV. Its fine to watch during the day.

      • +1

Biggest issue would be the reflections as there's no antiglare, it's just glass.

      • might just be me, but i have it flanked by two windows (no curtains), just behind it. for any 'darkish' video, usually have to change to vivid mode (much brighter). don't have to do this usually though, just occasionally.
        will get some curtains soon.

    • I have the C9 and I can really see the black crush when I play Horizon zero dawn (i'm on PS5). I haven't found the perfect way to solve it yet so I change the brightness during the day/night cycle. I also used to play Persona 5R on a LED Hisense then continued on the C9, the lost in shadow detail is quite significant when you can actually compare on a game you spend +70 hours on. Overall I don't regret the upgrade as I really like the UI and picture but I have to elevate the Oled lighting rendering
the blacks into a dark grey when I play dark games … which defeats the purpose of having an Oled.

Apparently the C1 will solve the black crushing, but I don't think my wallet can handle it.

It's cheaper here $3,377 - even though it's by $3, delivery is free. It looks like OP's original link charges for delivery.

    • Nice one! Something strange going on with their delivery though - says they don't deliver to my postcode in Brisbane or my brother in Melbourne.

  • Is OLED way better than QLED? Cuz owns my Samsung Q7 QLED for 2 years and really happy. We pay almost half the OLED price compared to LG.

Just want to know is it worth paying almost double the price for OLED? Thanks fellas!

    • +1

Yes OLED is gives superior blacks at night. Even my family members noted this without any knowledge of TV types etc.

It is a luxury though and other branded (not TCL rubbbish) LED tvs are fine also.

    • +10

If you notice a Q looks a lot like an O, that's not a coincidence. It is basically some clever marketing by Samsung to hope that people will think they are equivalent, when OLED is a completely different technology.

With OLED, every individual pixel is it's own light source, while regular LED/"QLED" have backlights or sidelights to illuminate the whole panel. It means your dynamic range (the gap between the brightest spot and the darkest spot on the screen at any one time) is much smaller on regular LED, leading to (among other things) blacks looking generally grey if there is any other bright spots in frame (credits at the end of movies tend to illustrate this well, although it applies during the movies too, just that's where it's most extreme). OLED blacks are black. And you can have a really bright torchlight in amongst that pitch-black scene, and it won't make the shadows around the light look grey.

All of that said, OLED prices are silly at the moment, and the good 4k LED TVs of the last few years are really nice. Just can't quite match the high highs of OLED

      • BASTARDS! They chose Q so it looks like O. I say yes only to the big O. Big Q can take a hike.

  • Anyone tried for price match in jbhifi or TGG? thnx

    • Probably would but I think they mostly sold out now.

    • +1

There is no stock in Victoria anymore

      E.g. JB

No stores were found within 200km of your location. Click the More Stores link below to see the closest stores

TGGs doesn't show any stores nearest me with stock

      • TGG online didn't show me stock, I called the 1300 number and they directed me to Dandenong store where I spoke with Sina and she said they had boxed stock.

    • I got TGG to do a 30 day price match guarantee as I initially purchased it for $3565

    • Called both and they both said 65 CX completely gone in Vic only floor stock.

HN seems to have decent stock still, I picked one up last week for $3220 inc delivery after a lot of haggling

      • Any chance you have a receipt you'd be willing to share for price matching?

      • same here

      • +2

For people looking to buy floor stock … don't.

I bought my C9, floor stock at Myer, couldn't check for burn in in store as they didn't have any source. Installed it at home and got massive burn in, called LG and told me they don't cover display models, tried 5 times and finally got someone from australia (transferred me from an Indian hotline) and told me basically to get stuffed. Myer was Ok to give me a refund but as any good Ozbargainers, I paid in discounted gift card and didn't want $1600 back this way. The staff called for me few times and same, LG refused to fix it. Then it escalated to the store manager calling the buying central for them to pull some strings … and 3 weeks later, finally got a call for a panel replacement.

        Avoid OLED display models

      • Would I be able to get a copy of the receipt too please! Thanks

  • i pick one up the last week from HN in Adelaide for 3450 delivered they had stock lots of places are running out of stock

  • I actually wish I got the CX not the BX - the OS is kinda buggy and slow to respond on the BX, which apparently with the 9chip

  • Highly recommend picking up a soundbar (or really any type of external speaker setup) with these, the Samsung HW T650 is decent option that doesn't break the bank too much https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-series-6-hw-t650-…

Also looks like the linked website videopro have the new version of the 650 https://www.videopro.com.au/p-14291-samsung-hwa650-31ch-a-se… which is a bit pricier.

    • +2

I've spent a LOT of time looking at reviews etc. and the Samsung does just win out above the LG SN11RG for pinpointing Atmos audio - however I decided to buy the LG soundbar as there seems to be less issues with CODEC compatibility between it and the TV and various streaming apps. The Samsung doesn't appear to support LPCM audio which is used by the Disney app as well as the native audio from the PS4 (don't know about the PS5 or new gen Xboxes). Samsung has support for Alexa and Siri - neither of which I use or am interested in. LG supports Android Assistant / Google Home - which I'm already invested in my smarthome.

The main 'con' against the LG soundbar is slightly boomy bass (but also seems may be because of incorrect audio setup by users) - I'll be finding out this weekend as I'll be picking up my LG SN11RG soundbar tonight - from TGG, for $1065.

If you google 'lg sn11rg vs hw-q950t' prepare for a LOT of reading.. the A/V site reviews are useful, but I found that the forums were even more informative where I read about all the little quirks and troubles of each device people experienced.

Even with it being brand new, I've read about someone removing the bluetooth module from the LG's supplied subwoofer and connecting it to their existing powered sub - I'm planning on doing the same if the LG 8" doesn't cut the mustard.

      • I bought the SN9YG to go with GX65 and I'm really happy.

  • +1

There was a previous post on here where someone got a GX for under $4k and they said they called The Good Guys 1300 number looking for a CX65 and they offered one for $2965.

I saw that and called them asking if they could do it closer to $3k and cited that someone else got one for $2965. They asked for an exact price and I gave them $2999, and said I'd purchase it today and wasn't just tire kicking. they gave it to me and I picked it up Tuesday just gone.

tl;dr call TGG 1300 number and haggled to get a better price than this.

    • You got the GX65 for 3k?

  • Sweet

  • +1

I can't find stock for this tv anywhere except dodgy looking websites with terrible productreviews ratings.

  • I picked up the C1 on friday - will aim to install monday, will report back.

  • I’ve temporarily got my CX 65 on its stand until I wall mount. Has been that way for a few weeks and just realised tonight there is protective film on the back of the panel!

I should probably peel that off!

    • I didn't peel it off. No need to I figured

      • +1

Wouldn't surprise me if the manual told you to, as the heat of the tv will effect it.
