    Is this state specific?

Never seen these in Vic, but heard they are amazing

    • +1

Yeah just checked and seems like Vic doesn't stock Garlos pie in Coles, shame you guys are missing out because they're great!

      Is this state specific?

Yes, must be in a hunger state…

      • Oh jv, you make me laugh.

People pay $4 for a frozen pie?
And the say our inflation is only at 0.6%

    • +4

      I pay $4 for 6 pies…

  • These are really good pies and $2 is a steal. Thanks OP

do they have a gold meal

    • +3

      That would hurt your teeth.

Heat on high for 2 mins or until hoe before eating. https://shop.coles.com.au/a/national/product/garlos-sausage-…

I need to change professions before I can eat it.

    • -1

Just means you have 2 min with you hoe before pie is ready

      • +4

Plenty of time. I'll still have 30 seconds to spare.

        • That's sauce fetching time.

"The best pie in Australia…" thats a pretty big call, haven't tried myself but now am intrigued

  • The best pie in Australia is a Ned Kelly pie. om nom. Now I want one and havent seen a bakery nearby that does it.

    • Beefys do em, my mum bought me a mixed box last time she went brisbane.

      • So you expect me to fly to QLD.. I said nearby dammit.

        • Move to a superior state. We have pies.

  • +1

They are OK but not the best pie I've ever had. Most pies these days have the consistency of tinned dog food.

    • so true man, most are trash (7-11 shoe pie???) but these are aight

    The best pie in Australia

Have they tried Vili's though, a South Australian staple

  • How do these compare to Yatala?

    • Lol Yatatla used to do boss pies when I was young 15 years ago. How are they now

      • Honestly the quality has gone down the gurgler

      • The are fantastic, make sure you order a chunky pie, the others are a bit avge

  • Are these fresh refrigerated pies or frozen?

    • +1

      fresh refrigerated

      • +1

Are you sure? I've seen them in those refrigerated racks with frost melting on them. Look like they had been recently thawed.

From memory the pack also says that it shouldn't be frozen.

    • +1

These pies are frozen on arrival at Coles, then thawed before being placed on the refrigerated shelves.

Source: my mate works at Coles

Can now confirm. Just bought 5 of these as the staff member refilled them from the box. Frozen solid.

Best I've found in Vic is Proper National Pies (refrigerated section, not frozen, and made in Tasmania). Nothing else from colesworth comes close, frozen pies are terrible. They are better than a really good pie from a bakery imo.

The Aldi family pies are ok, but inconsistent in quality.

Wish I could try Vilis. Tried Garlos in Los Angeles when they had a pie shop there (closed permanently now I think), but it was so long ago can't really remember how good they were.

    • I agree 100%. Tried them when they went half price a while back and they are by far my favourite pie. Not many great bakeries where I live, so I can say it beats any bakery pie I've found locally.

    Beef Mince (28%)

That is lean on the beef

Don't waste these in the microwave.

Use your oven or air fryer. Much better.

Had the curry pie tonight, very nice. The pastry is divine.

    • Unless you have something like this

    • Air fryer seems nuts, what temp do you cook them at?

A good pie needs 20-25mins in a normal oven at 175c, super fan forced will dry out the pastry imo and likely won't heat up the inside enough.

      • The Breville microwave takes < 3mins to heat pan then 5min to cook a single pie (longer for more obviously). Perfect every time

        • your perfect is a different definition to mine.

          • @TEER3X: That's because you don't have the Breville. Am I selling it yet?

      • 3 min in the microwave on high, followed by 5 minutes for 200c in airfryer. Comes out hot with flaky crust, just tried this morning

  • +1

Too many preservatives and additives in these

  • I thoughts Mrs Mac pies were the best. Better give these a try then

  • The best beef pies are Empandas

    • The best empanadas are beef pies.

  • Bought the steak one. Its 50% beef and very nice.

  • Family Pie (Lean Beef) 550g also half price at $4.97

  • Picked a couple up today and liked it. Not the best pie I’ve had but really enjoyed it and totally worth $2.

    • Just cooked one that I put in the freezer and it was so good. If these go half price again I’ll totally stock up!

  • These are great, thanks OP. As good or better than a bakery for 1/3 of the price. Went again today to load up even more but none left so got a raincheck.
