Wow, works on Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X…but not Xbox Series S? Crazy!

Day 1 of commenting on every digital Xbox deal that doesn't mention the bae Xbox Series S bc the tags on here are lacking.

Well, any Series X game works on the Series S, so it's easier to just group it all under the former.

      • His reasoning is that physical games that go on sale are XSX exclusive as the XSS can only play digital games. Makes sense to have a seperate tag for XSS compatible deals (digital games) vs the generic XSX which applies to both physical & digital titles.

      • My gripe is that if you mark something as XSX it's promised to work on the XSX, you can't expect it to work on the XSS, ie, it may be a physical game and not work on the XSS, obviously. There's so many ignorant people though, and Microsoft and their naming conventions definitely don't make it any easier, that they might be looking to buy an XSS for someone as it's the cheaper one and a couple games, and then see you saying "Well, any Series X game works on the Series S" and go ahead and pull the trigger.

Digital Xbox games should honestly just say XBN or something, since XBL isn't the terminology anymore, and from there click the link and see if your console is supported. It's ironic that there's 3 different generations of Xbox tagged in this deal, yet somehow that doesn't cover every compatible console, AND we have someone thinking it won't work on something it does. If that last bit doesn't prove my point on buyer confusion, I don't know what will.

        Xbox Series S lives matter.

    • It won't work on the Xbox 360 itself because it's not a native Xbox 360 version of the game. It won't even show up in the Xbox 360 library as a game. It works only on Xbox One or newer. A version of it specially developed only for Xbox One or newer.

Remember the game web page states that it's only available on Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X. It means that there is no Xbox 360 support. Obviously because it's a backwards compatible title meant only to be emulated on the Xbox One or newer. So the Ozbargain deal title is incorrect stating that it's also for the Xbox 360 when it's not.

      • The game works fine on the 360, it's a 360 game…?

360 is ancient, they haven't listed games as working on 360 on the Marketplace in forever. Here's a link to the first 360 game I could think of that's still for sale, Lego Star Wars… I have it installed on my 360 and XSX, website doesn't mention 360 working there either, it's kind of a given though, isn't it. https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/p/lego-star-wars-tcs/btt25gg…

Edit: bc I'm having such a lazy Monday morning, I threw on the old 360 and checked, yeah, the game downloads fine as you'd expect.

        • But it doesn't state available on Xbox 360 on the game web page?.

          • @hollykryten: Yeah. The 360, I'm not gonna put words in their mouth so I'm not saying MS said this verbatim, but it's discontinued, it's legacy, it's done. They don't sell the machine anymore, they redid their whole online store a while back in prep for this current generation and everything.

360 games still do and always will work on 360s, at least barring some dead battery ala the PS4 (Google it, it's v unfortunate tbh), they just don't make any real mention of the console on their site these days bc the (profanity) is over a decade and a half old, and it's replacement is gonna have it's 8th birthday at the end of the year at that.

The old school store is still up and running, but a lot of the pages will just redirect to the new store, you can suss out 360 support a bit better there if you need to know for a particular game :)
