  • Cheaper to buy through Apple, because free delivery :)

Is this product durable enough to stay in the rectum?

    • Can you try it and let us know?

    • +1

It’s IP67 rated, so you should be able to keep it up for a while.

    • +1

How often do you misplace your rectum?

  • +8

$1.05 more at apple but with free engraving and delivery.

  • I use Pebble Bee. I wonder what are advantages of AirTags over Pebble Bee? Is it worth swapping?

    • The biggest advantage is you can trace down the air tag even from the other side of the planet given there are millions if not billion of iPhone users where their iPhone would detect the existence of your air tag and send a signal to you once you declare air tag is lost. No other phone companies have this advantage. It also uses nfc so when other iPhones detect it, your contact details would display on their iPhones so they can contact you.

You can connect Alexa and google to tile to find them in your home , I doubt these will

    • +1

Tile just rings… Apple made it like a "hot and cold" game with a compass built in the app while it rings but yes you can't use commands yet (probably can be integrated in the future).

    • Even that is a hit and miss.

    • +2

Amazing how people look to find issues with this, even though this is superior by far to Tile and other trackers.

I’m an Alexa user and even I can see this is way better than any of Tile’s offerings. The ability to spatially track your tags and utilise the power of the entire iPhone network are killer features.

    • +3

The benefit the AirTags have over Tile isn’t so much within your home where your own phone will be in range anyway, it’s if you lose something outside of your house and need to draw on other users of the ecosystem to help locate the item. There’s going to be many many more Apple users out there than Tile users who can help with an item being located.

I mean the in home tech for the AirTags still nice, but it’s the number of iOS users that’s really helpful. I had a look recently and in 2020 iOS accounted for over half of smartphone devices sold in Australia, so for where we are Apple has incredible good volume to support this. They also sell millions of MacBooks and iPads on top of that.

In some other countries Apple isn’t as prevalent, but for AU they are extremely common.

  • The opportunity cost for getting better tracking with the Apple eco-system is a lot high is what makes difference right now. Even Tile knows this as more Apple products are sold each year… Tile has already launched a lawsuit for anti-competition action in the US because they would have a monopoly as other phone makers like Google and Samsung will enter as well.

    • It’ll be interesting how that lawsuit pans out. Apple appears to have anticipated the anti trust concerns and have opened up the platform. Other companies can make devices that integrate with the service, and a few devices were announced by third parties prior to the Air Tag unveiling.

  • $42.75 if you buy from JB using -5% giftcards

  • Wonder how the Chipolo One Spot will compare. Doesn’t start shipping until June and not sure of price. It’s supported by Apple Find My also.

    • I don't think it has an Ultrawideband chip so it limits it slightly in that regard.

    • I lost all faith when I purchased a stack of Chipolos and they were a pain to use, super quiet, and worked once in a while.

What’s the return policy at OW?

I’d recommend buying from Apple if you’re not sure of the product and return within 14 days no questions asked.

  • Curious on how you would argue under ACL if one of these fails after, for instance, the one-year Apple coverage? How long does the general public expect it to last?

I mean, it’s not very expensive but not cheap either.

  • Or you could just get a 4 pack for $37.25 each

Surprise these aren’t selling for $500rrp

    • The proprietary screwdriver to replace the battery is $500, that's where they get ya.

      • It's user serviceable with just two fingers

        • +1

While I appreciate your helpful response, the bit about the screwdriver was a joke.

          • @Budju: But the joke doesn't work :D

            • @giventofly: It works pretty well, also obviously not a serious comment. The joke works cause Apple has an abysmal track record anti-consumerism. Just ask anyone.

              • +1

@Budju: The “joke” works if your standards are low.

                • @smartazz104: If you don't mind being treated like dirt as a consumer, the joke doesn't work.

                  • +1

@Budju: Thanks for your continued efforts in standing up for consumers, it’s much appreciated.

              • @Budju:

                Just ask anyone

You could ask me but I wouldn't confirm your bias so your premise falls apart

                • -2

@0jay: Again, a joke. Clearly not everyone in the world has the same view. The irony isn't lost on me, though, that Apple consumers are the least adept in detecting sarcasm.

                  • @Budju:

The joke works cause Apple has an abysmal track record anti-consumerism

                    This is sarcasm?

                    • -2

@0jay: This is basically where I draw a line in the sand. I can't help you

                      • @Budju: Haha aww, that's no fun!

                        Funny though.

If you don't mind being treated like dirt as a consumer, the joke doesn't work

You're not being sarcastic, it's just a very confused (and inaccurate) critique of a manufacturer/brand you've apparently had a bad experience with

                        • -1

@0jay: I made two jokes in about eight posts. The level of confusion you are currently experiencing is too much for me to easily resolve, so the line is drawn.

                          • @Budju: Your bias is pretty clear, cowbye, wear it with pride

  • +2

$40.70 for 1 or $134.20 for 4 and free engraving if you have access to Apple EPP.

    • Share the link maybe

  • Ngl, pretty impressive bit of kit.

They sure do implement things well.

    • -3

Will get scratched in 24 hours. Bad design. Tile tracker still looks new after 6 months.

      • +4

After 6 months people will be asking "what's a Tile?"

      • Surprised you got negged so much when I think some of the initial round of Youtube reviews indicated this as being a key concern too about the Airtags and their material choices. I suppose that's why there's such a big market for cases/etc however I think the initial cases mostly follow a similar formula of a bumper style holder with an exposed Airtag.

As for Tile, I have a tile… somewhere. Was not hugely useful and after the initial novelty of setting it up, have not bothered with it (and it ran out of battery a while ago). But the matte finish on it probably meant it still looks the same even years later.

  • +4

A very appropriate way to save/pay for these Airtags is with Apple Pay and After Pay $20 off promotion 😃https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/617201

  • -6

Is it so hard to keep the things at one place everytime than buying a airtags ?

    • Out of curiosity, do you buy insurance of any kind?

Is it hard to drive safely 100% of the time? Is it hard to make sure your home never burns down? Is it hard to maintain perfect health so you don't end up at the hospital?

My point is, things happen whether it's your fault or not. If it's a small price to pay to reduce those risks then it seems like a no brainer to me.

      • -3

Well… only wisemen can compare life events ( insurances etc ) with airtags events. Salutes Sir !

    • It about being able to leverage find my apple device outside of your home as the greater community can ping your location - there are a lot of iPhones in the world now. Every iPhone and Ipad now is basically a large geo fence mesh.

  • +1

Do you think these will be safe to put on a dogs collar? Be kinda handy when your dog goes walkabouts

  • Those who say this isn’t an awesome deal 🤡 🤡 🤡

  • Better off finding someone who has access to a discounted Apple Store (eg corporate program EPP) has Airtags listed for $40.70 / $134.20 for four.

  • +2

we are making a bonfire of the earth with these manufactured products which require rare earth minerals to produce. dont serve any purpose, just put a ''property of x'' handwritten note in your bag or put on a luggage tag if u r concerned.

    • +1

Just imagining the volume of button battery waste is really just mind numbing.

    • +1

What relevance do you imagine this has to airtags, exactly?

  • Officeworks suspends selling air tags.
