  • Wonder how this would compare with the Samsung 970 EVO Plus for $109 for CHIA. this has larger MTBF but much lower sustained writes.
    https://www.umart.com.au/Samsung-500GB-970-EVO-Plus-M-2-NVMe…

In relation to raw SUSTAINED performance, would 2 x 500GB drives STRIPPED have better performance for CHIA or a single 1 TB.
Larger drives generally have more cache so are preferred for general use, but sustained cache doesn't apply so thinking 2 in a stripe will be better.
1 TB is the same price, M2 slots aren't an issue as I use double M2 to PCIe adapters.

    • Sustained write below 1tb doesn't mean anything, it won't be saturated as long as it is not qlc

Best gen 3 drive for chia is silicon power and sabrent 1tb as they have over 1600tbw for warranty comparing to the usual 600tbw

      • Do you mean if you reached the tbw,the can not claim warrany?

        • Yeah

      • Reading the fine print the Samsung offers 300tbw, and the drive on this deal only 320tbw.

Yes the below appears good value and far more suitable for Chia $188 for 1 TB

        https://www.umart.com.au/Silicon-Power-1TB-NVMe-PCIe-Gen3x4-…

        • So in other words the Seagate drive will last slightly longer than the Samsung drive.

The Silicon Power 1TB SSD you quoted sold from Umart is rated for 1665 TBW which is huge. I don't know how since it's QLC. But damn if it really is 1665 TBW that's a massive endurance rating.

          • +1

@hollykryten: There's also the tlc version

And they probably don't expect anyone to hit it, as they seems to have worse endurance on smart than Samsung or WD so gonna be fun time for sabrent and silicon power a few months from now

  • Dropped to $92.64

    • Now is at $92.15 so the price is fluctuating some thing shocking.
