EDIT: well looks to be sold out from Australian warehouse! Sorry peeps.

This is a ridiculously cheap price for this RC crawler. There are some YouTube videos out there that review. I bought one for about $60 more. I've upgraded with metal parts, better driveshafts, bigger wheels, oil shocks. Great fun. And wow so much stuffing around to get a shareable link ozbargain will accept. Doesn't like banggood applink links. Yep, very convenient. Oh and wow now the mobile site version too. Slow clap.

  • We have two of them got them from the RC shop they're $200 each this is a good price if it's the same thing.
    https://www.rcgarage.com/collections/recommended-beginner-ve…

I actually just ordered two more great for spare parts at that price.

  • +1

    Max. Speed: 50km/h

Gotta say that is pretty ridiculous for an $80 toy!

    • +10

will catch a fine at school zone

    • +1

They are super fast. Got 1 for my boy for xmas and it flies down the road. Reviews have it at about 35 to 40km/h
      Highly recommended

    • Yowza that's crazy fast!

  • Do you buy the upgrades in a kit?

    • +4

Yeah mate, check out ebay, aliexpress and banggood with the model number of the car and you will find heaps of parts. Also worth noting that WLToys have a bunch of models very similar that have some common parts so 12428 12423 and 12427. Definitely get some front drive shafts cause they split. This is the metal upgrade kit I purchased https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12428-Upgrade-Accessories-Kit-fo…

      • +1 for the metal upgrade kit. The plastic stock parts are easy to strip. Found the plastic steering shaft on the controller was very easy to snap also. Plenty of parts around, just be prepared to be doing repairs. Otherwise, fun car for a great price!

  • +2

    Running Time: About 10 mins
    Charging Time: About 3 hours

Is that correct running time is max 10 mins ?

    • +3

Yeah that's the price of high performance. You can swap out the batteries or upgrade to better ones.

      • +4

"that is pretty disappointing… 3 hours of charging just for 10 minutes of fun"

        That's what she said

        • ..at least the battery pack didn't expend itself just before it was required ;)

    • +2

Looking at the battery pack, they look like 2x 18650 batteries in series. So yes, long charge time and short running time. Better to use a LiPO pack instead which will double or triple the runtime (depending on the pack size that you can fit in the space), and yet still charge in 60 minutes at a 1C charge rate.

      • These two have 2200mA
while the one in this car has 1500mA..
so does that mean it has approx 32% more charged
or a run time of 13.2 minutes vs 10 minutes?

But it would take 1 hour to charged fully vs 3 hours?

        https://www.banggood.com/ZOP-Power-7_4V-2200mAh-35C-2S-Lipo-…

        https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-nano-tech-2200mah-2s-35-…?

        • Yes, 32% more capacity to begin with, but also able to supply 35C, which is 77A. So if you were doing lots of full acceleration, then the 2 options you listed will last much longer than the included battery, which are only good for about 10C (15A).

LiPOs are meant to be charged at 1C. So you would charge the 7.4V 2200mAh pack at 2.2A using the proper LiPO charger, and it will be full within 1 hour.

    • -1

      dealbreaker right there!

    • To be fair you'll probably get bored between the 4-7 minute mark anyway so you'll only be using 70% juice max lol.

    • You should see FPV drones!

I get around 4-5 mins per battery. Sure, they charge in 20-30 mins, but you still need multiple batteries for a decent bit of fun.

      • which drones model are they?

I thought the DJI has at least 30+ minutes of running time

        • +1

I didn't neg you, but I'm talking about custom built 5 inch FPV drones. These are designed for racing and freestyle.

DJI have recently released their own FPV drone which apparently gets around 20m of flight time which is insane in the world of FPV.

Google "FPV freestyle" and watch a few vids.

          • @SnowDragon: oic racing drones

do you have links for some of these custom built drones to buy?
so they made with smaller batteries capacity to improve the racing aspect?

yeah i just watched a video and looks interesting

4-5 minutes..is that too short for racing or enough fun?

            • +1

@pinkybrain: Hmm I don't have any links because I built my own.

I used this guide https://rotorbuilds.com/build/16210 and soldered it all together. I also bought a frsky qx7 and some fatshark dominator v2 goggles lying around. My tech is a few years old now though.

Everything with drones comes down to weight vs thrust. Same with rockets. You can't launch a ship to orbit with millions of tonnes of provisions. The heavier your craft, the more power it needs. So sure you can buy a bigger battery for more capacity, but more capacity equals more weight. More weight equals more thrust required to lift the drone. More thrust equals more battery usage.

If I am conservative and not going punching it into the sky, I get around 6-7 mins which is plenty of time with a few batteries. Flying with other people would be fun but I've yet to meet another person who flies near me.

It's certainly a fun hobby and you can strap a gopro to your drone and get awesome shots. Could even turn it into a money making hobby if you get good enough. But it's also trial and error and you could crash your drone and it becomes a money sink very easily.

If I were to start from scratch I would join a few fb groups and look to buy a second hand setup. There are also simulators you can play on your pc if you have a game controller and learn to fly. FPV gives you an experience nothing else can and I'd say it's quite accessible. Not as expensive as some hobbies, but it can cost a lot if you do the wrong things. I'd say over 2 years I've spent about a grand in total. I've gotten to the point where it's extremely rare I crash. The first few months was a cycle of flying, crashing, buying parts, repairing, repeat.

My first drone I purchased prebuilt and this probably contributed to the crashes and other things.

Any way it's fun and if you have plenty of places around you that are open or scenic it's worth getting into.

    • It's not a giant revelation that running times will be shorter than charging times. High powered motors will often drain batteries faster than it takes to charge them.

Included batteries in ready to run RC cars are often not high capacity and the included chargers are cheapies so they'll charge slow. Bear in mind these aren't your consumer friendly Kmart RC cars for kiddies, they're hobby grade. Most people who are into the hobby will already have higher capacity batteries and their own fast chargers.

  • +1

lol bought, I blame you guys

    • +3

This site doesn't save you money. It makes you spend more

  • Need 2 are the different frequency?

    • +2

Doesn't work like that. Just turn one car and controller on at a time. You can have plenty of these, the car and controller pair themselves when you turn them on.

      • Thanks for the reply appreciate it!

  • +3

"Don't need this. Have heaps of cars. Better cars. Much more expensive cars."
    "But this is cheap."
    "But you don't need it."
    "But it's still cheap."
"Save the money and spend it on parts for your Arrma. Or your Traxxas. Or your Losi."
"This is CHEAP. Now shut the hell up. I'm buying it."
    🤷‍♂️

    • +1

Traxxas and losi That brings back the memories. I've got a traxxas tmaxx that's been sitting in a box for years.

      • I've got one too. Great cars. Mine stripped a spur gear recently. Was going to replace it until I calculated the cost of running the thing with nitro costing the earth… Best to spend that cash on new and cheap things like this🤣

  • +8

Got one, wasn't in the market, didn't need one.. fell into OzB trap

    • +5

ozbargain ~ the place where money is saved

  • I'd probably jump on this if I still lived with my dad. Where I am at the moment would have to go up to the park and dodge nangs.

  • This won't be suitable for freeway use since it's max speed is only 50kph and it does not even look road worthy to be.

  • Forgot to mention, I had a coupon (random, unknown origin) in my account, total cost for me on this was $77.68. Stupidly good price.

  • +1

Thanks op, dont need it at all but damn that 50 KM/H sounds fun, got two one for my cousin one for myself. Why not ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • I bought one.

Serious question, what would you do with this? Besides charge it up and hoon up and down the street for 10 minutes.

    • +1

Mod it. Better suspension, better battery, better brushless motor . Do mad stunts, then break it.

  • Price hiked to $111? Lucky. Was about to buy.

    • Yes, I'm seeing the same, $111 + $33 postage now.

    • Sold out from Australian warehouse, have them from China.

    • +1

same here, thanks god it saved me A$82, now I'm happy!

  • +1

The way things are going, we’ll all be driving these to work some day in the future.

    • +4

you are clearly a very, very tiny person.

      • +1

This car needs to be at least… three times bigger!

  • +1

Anyone know of any other good RC car deals, maybe ones that are a little slower but more run time?

    • +1

      try petrol RCs

they have good run time and no need to charge the batteries.
just buy a tank of petrol and keep refilling it

    • +1

Put a stopper behind the trigger so it doesnt go full speed. These are not 50kmh really, probably fast enough for most though. The Wltoys 949b / 979b on the other hard are insane speed for something so small.

I have the 12428 version of this car, It has a dial for setting the max speed. You can turn it down and give it to a kid. It also has more metal parts on it from what i can see. More durable.

  • Glad it's out OOS. Totally would have bought one.

    • why not get a drone?

seems to be replacing RC as the more popular toy nowadays

      • +2

Because you would probably only be able to fly indoors at the rate things are going. My council doesn't allow any RC flying vehicles in any of their parks!

  • for those who still really want it, I think i found one on dhgate for $85 aud delivered. downside is from china and via epacket.

    • Great find…

  • +1

Any recommendations for a cheap tough rc car? Dont wanna mess about with upgrades or having to fix it, just something tough for the dog to chase.

  • Damn this was a good deal.

  • I think this is several years old

    • +2

Yeah but it's not like RC cars change much

  • We got a bigger battery for this model and a better charger and we get run times of up to 30 minutes works really well but you need to speak to your local RC shop. The batteries have bigger amperage and it's a better quality fast charger.

Then you've also have the battery you got with it so you get some pretty good run times if carry a spare battery.

    • What sort of charger did you upgrade too?

      • The battery I purchased it was a 22000mah 2 cell 7.4 lv Lipo battery 30c

And the fast charger is a G T power GT – B3 lipo charge.

        • *2200mah

          • @Duff5000: Sorry yes

            • @Tunafish1: No worries, i knew what you meant, just didn't want someone to go looking for a 22000 mah battery. It would be huge :)

  • -3

What is this, a car for ants?

  • If you want faster and more upgraded metal bits already on the car grab this:

    https://www.banggood.com/Wltoys-144001-1-or-14-2_4G-4WD-High…

Or the version with 2 batteries:
    https://www.banggood.com/Wltoys-144001-1-or-14-2_4G-4WD-High…

    • Prolly better value the 3 battery version for $5 extra.

But thanks for the info, I might look at these depending on how the one from this deal goes.

  • I have the WL toys 144001. Inexperienced and 50kmh don't go too well together.

  • Short review; It's great.

    Pros;
    - cheap
    - sturdy
    - good quality for the price
    - plenty of after market parts for repairs or upgrades

    Cons
    - any electronics upgrades are all or nothing due to 3 in 1 nature of receiver and 5 wire servo
    - tends to roll if turned at speed
    - suspension should be oil damped
    - battery tray is short which limits use of higher capacity LiPo batteries

By no means is it a crawler. Doesn't have enough power at low speed, and diffed axles are a hindrance for trying to 4wd.
