My thought too. Back in my school days, I'd buy a pack and would have to share it because the damn thing was too spicy to eat myself. It was legit tongue burning and that was part of its gimmick and what made it an exciting snack. Nowadays it's a little spicy but aside from that, it's not different to most other chips
I used to mix them with my mates herb n spice for this reason
edit: herb n spice and the OG chilli - what a time to live in!
Think OG chili predates herb n spice
@0jay: OG chilli predates 20 years?
ok.
@fusion17: OG chili was late eighties by my reckoning, lasted a couple years before they toned it down (could be v early nineties).
Chili and plain were the only 2 flavours from go as I remember
@0jay: In that case it's probably changed more than once because 1997 kettle chilli was definitely more chilli… And a different chilli taste too.
@fusion17: You may be right. I moved to Brissy for 3 years or so until 96 and it was when I was in Brisbane that they toned it down from the original crazy burn flavour so sometime between 93/96
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw herb and spice on the shelf a few weeks ago. I bought it and tasted as soon as I got home and can say it actually tastes the same as it did when I was in primary school in the early 90s! Well close enough if not exactly the same :)
they are 175g now!
hasn't been 250 since the 90s lol
í find it depends on the batch, i get some which are great and hot, but some bit average
no consistency!
Old days they were really hot
Yep still remember eating one by accident as a kid, it was that hot it was memorable…
Just like me 😎
There's basically no spicy chips in the market anymore. Kettle are nothing (their thai chilli were good) and aldi brand is super mild. The only moderately spicy chips are flamin hot cheetos but theyre not really chips.
They most certainly are not madam!
You dont think flamin hot cheetos are spicy? Theyve at least got some taste to them, although the added cheese cuts the spice a bit.
@Jenny Death: I was agreeing with you that they’re not chips.
I limit my snack foods to chips only, keeps my probs to a minimum.
@0jay: Ah true. Chips over chocolare or ice cream any day
ture. been looking for hot chips but in vain
head to the chinese supermakrets and get a chilli twisties
they are awesome
There is a variety of Wasabi Doritos that is so burning I find it inedible, see if you can make it
Yeah, So true. Seriously Chilli chips are my only junk food vice. I will often eat a whole bag in lieu of a proper meal.
where's the MVP, Salt and Vinegar
You're good people. I also would have accepted Original.
I've seen the same size or bigger at Costco, forgot the price though and can't find it on the website
Single serving size must have increased. Yum.
I miss the OG kettle chilli chips 😢
I'm such a slut for kettle chilli chips.
I've got a few bags at my place.
this is indeed a travesty as I don't know how to not eat a full pack at a time
use the force
Here’s me dispensing advice. I’ve no idea myself, forgive me my presumption
Kettle Herb and Spice is back at Woolies but they always seem to be sold out, anyone else notice this ?
I don't notice…. Cause I'm the one buying them brahhhh
That one just makes me thirsty is fk.
If you ever sight one in real life let me know. I miss it so much.
I bought a pack the other week! It tastes the same as it did back in the 90s!
I remember Costco has a larger version 🤔? Really like it
Cosco’s great for families, not really worth the membership for singles.
but but i eat 908g of chips in one sitting and i'm single…..
prolly explains why
this Aldi one is still cheaper per unit
Costco one is $1.23 per 100g
650g for $7.99
650gms in costco 7.99$
unit price?
Any where to get salt and pepper flavour kettle chips?
the chilli apparently sold out at my local :/ only saw bags of sea salt
This is bad news, very very bad. As if I didn’t have enough of a problem with the 250g chili.
It used to be the only thing that stopped me was the chili was genuinely hot, then they made it milder (such a sad day) and now I can get through a bag no drama and wish the bag was still full.
This is bad…
