The thing is the 5950x needs an AIO, the 3950x does not. Factor the cost of a Kraken X63 or better into that, instead of a cheap Assassin 3
@Dynaverse: this guy is just spreading misinformation left right and centre in this thread lol
https://www.amazon.com.au/EVGA-Liquid-Cooler-Cooling-400-HY-…
one of the best cooler available, very cheap
if you want 360mm for quieter operation then ek, liquid freezer or the clc 360 are usually around $200
also those kraken cooler are not very good, their main selling point is the lcd screen, oh wait they don't even have the screen, why do people buy those lol
@ln28909: Here https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-5950x/20.html the temp under the load with blender was just 57C with air cooling, using Noctua NH-U14S. If you don't overclock the CPU, air cooling should be sufficient.
5900x is a very good CPU for gaming and more. It's a dream CPU for what you're doing. Just pair it with a good video card. Not sure how the 6900XT is with this CPU, probably quite decent and well priced. I run a 3090 (bought before price rise) and it's outstanding.
Thanks for the response man, will hold off for the 5900x then when stock is back in! I've been thinking about pairing it with a 3060/3070 for the casual gaming aspect but yeah, want to make sure the cpu is at least on the better part of my build. Thanks :)
Awesome processor , mines still chugging along like a champ , single core can hit just over 5ghz with a little undervolting via curve optimiser
It's a very small saving.
