Rejected AliExpress ShopBack Claim - Triggered

Edit: the Shopback rep on ozb helped sort this for me. Cashback issue is now resolved.

————

Just wanted to vent my frustrations with the Shopback / AliExpress cashback process.

I logged into Shopback then AliExpress and 5 mins later purchased something worth $550 (my first mistake).
It was an eligible product, process was followed correctly but cashback didn't work.

I opened a missing cashback claim and I've just been told my claim hasn't been successful (see email below).

Very disappointing, considering I only purchased via AliExpress for the cashback.

Thank you for submitting a missing cashback claim.

We have appealed this missing cashback claim with the merchant and found that the merchant has deemed ShopBack ineligible to earn commissions on this transaction which results in us being unable to pass the cashback along to you.

ShopBack awards cashback on your transactions on the basis that the merchant attributes your order to ShopBack and pays us a commission, they are the deciding party on a sale being attributed to ShopBack.

There are quite a few reasons why these orders may not be attributed to ShopBack. This includes:

  1. If a user clicks on a Honey, Cashrewards, or another chrome extension after clicking from ShopBack
  2. If other web pages (including search sites, social media, store sites, promotional/discount sites) or web browsers are opened after clicking through ShopBack
  3. Clicking through to another page from a banner, pop-up, or advertisement on the store’s webpage whilst shopping
  4. Antivirus/Cleanup or Adblocker applications block or disrupt cashback tracking (Tracking cookies are required to track transaction)
  5. When the order falls under the merchant’s exclusions, including the use of promo codes not listed on ShopBack.

In the meantime, do let me know if there is anything I can do to help or share my best advice on earning cashback. I’d be here to support whenever you need it.

Regards,
Team ShopBack

  • Did you do any of those things that Shopback listed in the email above?

    • Nope, same as always. Single browser open, no extensions, no antivirus, no additional tabs, etc.

Another day… another rejected cashback… LOL!

    Hey 93vector,

PM me your registered email address and I'll get the team to check this for you.

    • Thanks for the offer, but I've already received a firm "there's nothing we can do" response.

      • +2

What do you have to lose.

        • Fair point. Just went to do it but apparently I'm blocked from private messaging for some reason.

      • More than happy to see what I can do for you. Since you're having issues sending a PM here, could you send a fresh email to [email protected] with "ATTN: gotyourback" in the subject line? Let me know once you've sent it through.

        • Many thanks - email sent.

  • Was it a missing cashback or a rejected cashback? As in, do you see the purchase in the shopback history?

    • it was missing. Then the missing cashback claim was rejected.

$550 item at AliExpress? Why? What?

    • +2

That's a lot of 47 cent items with free delivery

    • Probably a phone.

      • it was a car part.

        • Ah. How much cheaper than ebay?

          • +1

@Mechz: $100. At the end of the day it wasn't worth it.
Didn't get cashback, 2 of 4 pieces arrived broken and the items aren't quite as described.
Seller is now playing games, saying they're going to refund (but haven't) and the dispute resolution process leaves something to be desired.

@93vector: Credit card chargeback is your friend.

              • @Mechz: Good point. I'll look into this process - thanks.

                • @93vector: You will get your Aliexpress account suspended.

@[Deactivated]: Not a great loss compared to $500.

@Mechz: Yeah, I know. Just FYI.

@93vector: If you're going to get a refund no point chasing cashback as it will be declined.

ah i started to cut down on this cashback thing… just too many conditions……
i predict the whole cash back business will go down under in another few years or just simply less usages.
unless there is a 100% new sure method to get it. and the cashback provider can push the retailers to simplified the eligibility criteria.
like, how is fashion okay but pet products are not ?

Yeah same, lately had a few of my ShopBack claim just not being recognise.
Bookings, Amazon and AliExpress half the time
More often , compare to 2019
I made the claim via the iOS ShopBack app

I wonder how long these cashback firms can get away with unclear conditions and loopholes. The ACCC should have a look into the industry and set some standards.

    These incidents are too frequent.

    • The ACCC should start with the affiliate companies that are responsible for tracking your purchase and paying commission.

      • Isn't shopback et al the affiliate?

        • +1

Stores such as BWS, AliExpress, Amazon, Myer etc. are signed up to affiliate networks, e.g. Commission Factory, Amazon Associates etc. Then a company like Shopback sign up to these affiliate networks, generate tracking links for these stores and when you make a purchase, the affiliate network tracks the purchase, pays Shopback the commission once confirmed (normally after a few weeks/months to ensure no abuse) and then they pay a % of that back to you.

          Like this basically.

          • @Clear: Cheers for the explanation.

            • @malich: This is a good read on some of the most common ways of how they actually track your purchase.

I know with some stores like Banggood, the cookie is present on your system for weeks and will continue to track purchases. If you go clicking on Banggood affiliate links from review sites, YouTube descriptions or even OzBargain when signed out of your account, you can have their cookies loaded and result in an untracked purchase.

Unfortunately for cashback companies they don't always get told an exact reason why the tracking failed, hence why they give you that generic spill of reasons. Sometimes it can come down to using shitty affiliate networks such as what Groupon use who are terrible at tracking. Or it can even be like Spotlight or Gearbest who owe a lot of money to networks and partners.

Be careful! You won't get cashback if refunded!

Update - the shopback rep on here sorted the cashback issue out for me. Thanks for your help!

Had a lot of cashbacks rejected from both SB and CR with no reason other than they didn't get paid by company (namely Amazon) even though all requirements were met/eligible categories/no adblock or extensions. What's to say they got paid and aren't paying out? no one knows except them. Someone needs to launch an investigation into cashback companies.

    • Totally agree.

I was thinking about starting a new topic with something like 'Shopback - Possible class action against shopback??'. Im sure we could get several users who have missed out on the cashback here.

I thought i would fall under - scam from the below

"It’s possible for group-based claims to be pursued for financial and economic losses suffered as a result of breaches of consumer protection laws (which protect you from scams, unsafe products, and unfair treatment from businesses), as well as for personal injuries arising from contaminated or defective products."
