Free Hot Meal for Those In Need / Doing it Tough (via Nomination) @ Domino's

3020

Great gesture, and will hopefully be used for its intended purpose rather than be abused. Please stay safe, and enjoy :)

We know that pizza can’t solve all of the world’s problems, but it can bring a small slice of joy to a bad day, and in these times of extreme stress and uncertainty that’s never been more important.

At Domino’s, we are committed to supporting the local communities in which we operate. That’s why our community-based ‘Feed the Knead’ program is now available in every state and territory across Australia.

This program aims to provide localised support by giving those doing it tough one less thing to worry about - a safe, hot meal. If you know an individual, business or charity in ‘knead’, simply fill out the nomination form and we’ll do what we can to help.

Your constant need to be the funniest person in the room is maddening.
This is a really lovely gesture from Dominos.
Why do you need to jump in and try and make jokes about scamming the system?

      • +3

It's ozbargain. Abuse may always occur.

      • -2

        is maddening.

        Are you mad?

      • This is a really lovely gesture from Dominos.

If you can't see it is a publicity stunt, I have some swamp land I'd like to sell you…

        • Hell yeah, it's a publicity stunt, but who cares? People in need get a free meal. Wish more companies did publicity stunts like this…

      • -3

How you know he is scamming the system? JV can't be in knead?

      • +1

JV is clearly an bitter, bored, lonely little man.

    • +52

How so exactly? And surely not deserving of a neg - just report it if you feel so strongly about it.

      • +23

I'm 100% behind @tightarse [no pun intended] - see below.

There is a good percentage of those that have joined ozbargain who are doing it tough especially in these trying times and pandemic period… all looking for ways to save for essentials … food is essential - lets support one another in what ever way we can.

I would even suggest putting this in frugalfeeds.

          How would you know this?

        • +2

That’s how I ended up here, some years ago… & nothing much has changed.

      • +4

Agree 100%. Some people may have not seen how it is like to go to bed without a meal. Awareness is a blessing for people in need.

You're on a site of extremely tight people lol. Ozbargainers, please prove me wrong this time.

    Appreciate the post still :)

  • Any legit nomination ideas?

    • -1

      My house

    • If you are really after some legit ideas, I can send you some if you like as I am very active volunteering.

      • +2

Maybe you could just nominate people you know instead of offering to send someone else's private details to a stranger on Ozbargain.

    • +1

I have a homeless client who often comes into my office begging for food. Perhaps a local homeless shelter? Or a DV centre.

  • +7

Regardless of how you feel about Dominos (I personally am not a fan of the company), good on them for doing this.

    • +13

good on them for doing this.

I'd rather they pay their workers properly first, so they can afford to eat too…
They are only doing this to try and get some good publicity…

      • +3

The dominos workers i know are doing great. They saving enough to even send money home to india to help their family out.

        • -3

Which Dominos stores do you own?

      • +6

Domino's pays a lot more than other retailers actually.

Source: my brother worked for them as a pizza chef a few years ago during his uni time

  • +10

their own workers could need some support, lets nominate them may make up some of the lost pay: https://www.businessinsider.com.au/dominos-accused-of-underp…

    • +1

Nothing than a bit of good PR won't fix!

    • -2

Meh, they can pour the discarded pizzas due to topping mistakes into a bucket in their car when the manager ain't lookin'.

  • +10

Missed opportunity to use "doughing it tough" tbh.

  • +1

Reason for nomination: Still manages to fit through doors and in seats on public transport.

  • +2

If we are posting "those in need" does this mean anyone can post? Like this one here? I know in my area in NSW, they do this Tuesday's and Friday's near the library giving away hot food and essential goods to people in need.

    • I wonder whether u need to prove that you are in need to get a free meal cos anyone can just rock up for free food.

      • +2

No one is asked to prove anything.
It's absurd to punish and degrade people in need because others might happen to take advantage.

        • +2

I’ve heard a person I work with say “you need to make them work for it” about a food voucher. We work in the lowest SES area of our city with the highest risk clients who are highly vulnerable and have multiple health and social issues. It’s just that there isn’t enough to go around. It’s heartbreaking.

  • +1

Scomo, to replace the foot that seems to be in his mouth, but first I'll check with his wife.

    • Definitely seek Jenny’s approval.

  • -6

    thanks op, nominated myself.

  • +5

Wouldn't be surprised if this was like that Airbnb free accommodation for flood victims where Dominos franchisees opts into the program and cops the cost, but Dominos head office gets the credit.

    • Totally, I would count on it being exactly that.

  • +3

Dominos and hot meal? Yeah right!

  • do they deliver? the friend i nominated is legally blind and they don't have a car.

    • +2

      Good luck:

It is at the sole discretion of the franchisees within the Domino’s system as to whether they choose to support a “knead”. If your “knead” is chosen by a franchisee, the franchisee will work with you and your chosen recipient to organise the pizza donation for the recipient. The franchisee will determine, at their sole discretion, all relevant aspects of the pizza donation, including but not limited to, the time and date of the donation, the quantity of pizzas to be provided, which pizzas are provided, whether the pizza order will be pick up or delivery etc. The franchisee is not under an obligation to provide a pizza donation if the nominee and/or recipient are uncooperative or unresponsive.

      • i appreciate the explanation. though it does seem like they could potentially (if they are the type) who could reject all applicants. wish domino's did more to support their franchisees though

  • Hmm makes me hungry for Pizza myself.

    • When I see a Dominos deal, the last thing I feel like eating is pizza…

      • +1

Where I live you can buy large pizzas from independent pizzerias for a similar price to Dominos and they taste so much better. I have never understood why Dominos is so popular.

        • -1

I have never understood why Dominos is so popular.

The younger generation have evolved without taste buds.

        • +5

          Do tell where.

Hard to find anywhere with similar pricing to Domino's. House prices might actually go up.

        • +1

The independent pizza joints must not have much upstairs if they want to join a lot of Dominos Franchisees that can't make a buck :)

      • +1

This is the funniest thing jv has posted because none of his words are bolded. I know the addiction can be hard to fight, keep it up mate

  • Expired. Link broken.

    • +1

Actually there is something wrong with Domino's website, every page redirects to that ordering page.

Eg https://www.dominos.com.au/inside-dominos/technology/ or even if you go to dominos.com.au it redirects to the ordering page.

      • Now the pages just aren't loading at all, instead of redirecting.

  • +5

Its a nice gesture, but the poor always seem to end up with the poorest food choices that exacerbate already poor health and mental health. Throw in some coke and the health system will pay tenfold the value of all these free pizza lol. Ever wonder why aboriginal health so dire in communities?you are what you eat.

    • +3

Well, that & the intergenerational trauma from colonisation, racism, & cruelty… I’d eat terribly too, had I been through that.

      • I agree with you. But whatever the reasons for particular people, the solution is never crap food. This type of food only exacerbates poor mental and physical health, and thou this is a well intentioned gesture, its net effect is to ensure the status quo.

        • When you're going through poverty and have an empty stomach, any food is better than nothing

  • +2

    T&C's from the website:

    FEED THE KNEAD

Domino’s has established a Feed the Knead giving program where people can reach out to their local Domino’s store to arrange for a donation of pizzas to a person or organisation who is in “knead” within the community.

Individuals can complete a nomination form on the Domino’s website to tell us about the “knead” they wish to support by providing relevant details. The individual submitting the nomination form takes responsibility for the disclosure of the potential recipient’s personal information and undertakes not to include any sensitive information (as defined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth)) in their nomination. The personal information provided will be used (to the extent required) to contact the nominee and/or recipient to facilitate a pizza donation.

    • +4

Lol @ the last paragraph. Most probably will not get it then.

If these people in need are hungry now, NO PIZZA FOR YOU YET!!! Because its the sole discretion of the franchisee on when they are basically fed. Hahaha lamest charity attempt ever.

      • Cmon Unfair if they can provide a good photo of the happening to them they are in :)

      • +2

Most probably will not get it then.

As already mentioned, this is a marketing exercise, not an act of philanthropy…

      • the franchisee will work with you and your chosen recipient to organise the pizza donation for the recipient.

What do you think are the chances that they will actually contact you?

  • +2

The should.give the free meal to the people that work at dominoes. I'm sure they could use it

    • -1

Except they know what goes in the pizza….

Nominated my local Pizza Hut, who are struggling post Domino's expansion

Thanks for posting this, just nominated my mum's neighbour who is unemployed and has been in and out of hospital this year.

Dominos called him straight away and are taking him a pizza, garlic bread and a can of coke for dinner tonight. Mum said he was so happy when he told her about it!!
