As per the title, is the Oppo A52 still the best bang for buck phone around $200?
I just missed out on purchasing an Oppo A52 for $147 through Officeworks which is killing me :(

It's not a good phone
At it's price point, what phone is better?
OS is unoptimised and often lags.
Lag is subjective. I came from a Pixel 2 and yes, performance is worse, but acceptable (IMO).
Hundreds of little bugs will drive you crazy.
Care to list a few?
Button layout will send you nuts - often pushing the power button is cancelled out by volume buttons on opposing side.
I have taken a lot more accidental screenshots than I used to, but I've adjusted my grip and this is less of an issue.
Double tap to wake screen rarely works.
Possibly a sensitivity issue? I tap mine relatively firmly and have had few issues with it.
4/10 avoid
At it's price point I'd give it 6/10. 5/7 with rice.
@Sinnerator - I wonder how it was voted Best Budget Smartphone (Under $300) in 2020 by the community then if it's so bad?
@WatchNerd
Sinnerator makes some valid points. Perhaps, the community has not had a better phone than an Oppo a52 hence their positive feedback. However, that doesn't matter. Oppo a52 is alright for price at $147. Nothing special. No more no less.
If you're really looking for the sweet spot. At around that price - look for Snapdragon 700/800 series processors. Not a fan of Mediatek but some of they're newer processors aren't bad at all. UniSoc is alright for lower budget sector.
A lot of manufacturers like Oppo, Xiaomi aren't the best at software optimisations. I found their skins to have a heavy burden on their processors. You will get a way better experience on a phone that has optimised it well (e.g. Motorola/Lenovo/Sharp). These are all essential stock android and the experience on these phones with similar or even worse processors is just miles ahead of Oppo & Xiaomi.
Friends have this phone , and camera is quite clear.
Ended up getting one from Catch of The Day. JB sold out, Officeworks sold out and including discounted gift cards Catch was the next cheapest.
Sorry to bring this back up - how are you finding it? My mother has an old Oppo F1S and I want to get her a better phone. She wants to stay with Oppo, and is looking for something up to about $400.
For around $200 it's pretty nice. It was actually for my partner. She came from a 3 year old phone so it's a big improvement. No complaints so far. I'll probably grab one for myself when my phone dies.
This might throw a spanner in the works - Vivo X50 Lite 8GB RAM 128GB $215 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi
@$147. Sure why not.
Is the Oppo A52 still the best bang for buck circa $200 phone?
No.
I think it's really time to wait a bit for newer phones with newer/better chipsets to go for sale.
That's a never ending journey.
Hope you waited it out and bought one those phones being cleared out!
