Works fine for me and food comes out perfect…
I dont have one on mine and i let it get hot enough where the snags sizzle when you throw them on it
They're generally incredibly inaccurate, but if you're getting good results, keep grilling!
This is like saying your oven telling you it reached 220 degrees is useless. The lie detector says that was a lie.
Like others have said, I've got the temp gauge and it works very well.
The built-in is taking the temperature at the hood rather than at the grate and usually there’s a bit of a difference in temp. You could get away with it but I reckon you’d be better off investing the money saved into a Bluetooth temp gauge that will give you a probe at grate level and a probe for the internal temp of whatever it is you’re cooking.
JV can you show me a link of what you mean by the one with taller lid and temperature gauge, sorry, new to this Weber BBQ thing.

The taller lid alone is worth the extra money, but it's good to know the temperature inside too…
I already have the lodge sportsman cast iron grill, would this one provide some additional benefits? I suppose this cools down faster for putting back into the car?
