PC Case Gear Didn't Refund Postage on Defective Meshify 2 Case

I ordered a Meshify 2 from them, I would’ve picked up because I’m quite close to their warehouse. However, they don’t offer this option and I was forced to pay $12 for delivery.

The case arrives a week later, and it’s defective. The screws holding the top metal bracket to the case is really over tightened and I have to get an electric drill to get them out. Turns out, the metal bracket itself is bent and the screw holes don’t line up with the ones on the case.

I contact Fractal and PC Case Gear with pictures attached and Fractal replies first telling me that the top bracket looks warped and to contact the retailer for replacement or refund. PC Case Gear replies telling me to initiate a warranty request, which I fill out. A few days later they give me a prepaid Australia Post return label, and I send my case back. Around a week later they tell me they have received the case and confirmed that it is defective and gave me the option of a full refund or replacement. I chose a refund, and they said it will be in my bank account in the next couple of days.

I only receive a refund for the case itself and not the full cost of my order which includes the $12 delivery. I contact PCCG again and they tell me that they don’t issue refunds for postage as it’s ‘a paid service which was successfully carried out’.

This is just abysmal - they force me to pay for delivery for a defective item! Is this a common practice? I’ve never had a store not refund me the cost of postage for a defective item. Now I’m out of pocket for both the postage of a faulty item and my time packing away and sending back the item.

I mean that does sound fair. If your phone wasn't working and you drove to the store to get a refund would you expect them to pay you for labour and gas?

How do you know the op has converted their car to lpg?

Ozbargainer for 6 years. It goes without saying.

    • you drove to the store to get a refund

they won't allow you to pickup…

      • Ouch?

No it is not fair, it's a defective product.

You are wrong and the law says you are wrong

      Returning the product
You are entitled to return a product if you believe that there is a problem. You are generally responsible for returning the product if it can be posted or easily returned. You are entitled to recover reasonable postage or transportation costs from the business if the product is confirmed to have a problem, so keep your receipts.

      https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

How can you possibly think it is fair to be sold a defective product and then have to pay to return it?

      • What are you talking about, OP didn't have to pay to return the product?

they give me a prepaid Australia Post return label

        • If your phone wasn't working and you drove to the store to get a refund would you expect them to pay you for labour and gas?

          The answer is:

You are entitled to recover reasonable postage or transportation costs from the business if the product is confirmed to have a problem,

          • @deme: Oh ok. I didn't neg you by the way

          • @deme:

How can you possibly think it is fair to be sold a defective product and then have to pay to return it?

            lol thats awkward!

        • The paragraph does not specifically mention the initial postage cost, only the postage cost in regards with returning the product.

Other users research skills seems to be more reliable.

          • @Ughhh: Notice in replying to someone's comment, that's what threaded comments are for.

            Let me explain:

            See this comment: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10268270/redir

Since mine is indented it means it's a reply to it.

            They wrote

If your phone wasn't working and you drove to the store to get a refund would you expect them to pay you for labour and gas?

See how it's indented with a coloured bar that means it is a quote.

A quote is used to show what I'm replying to.

Now let's have a look at that quote:

… to the store to get a refund would you expect them to pay you …

because you obviously don't get simple things, the dots mean I've posted a truncated version of the quote.

            So my comment
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/10269837/redir

Is a reply to that comment in which they discuss having consequential loss such as costs returning the defective product.

For avoidance of doubt that means I'm replying to a commenter not OP.

If you're returning a product because it's faulty and doesn't meet your consumer guarantees, then the remedy provided by the retailer should not come at any extra cost to you. And if it does, the business will be required to reimburse you. It is not required to reimburse the initial postage charges.

I've heard from people they often take a few days to send things out at the moment. I think scorptec clayton has better customer service for the price and also offers local pickup.

  • I contact PCCG again and they tell me that they don’t issue refunds for postage as it’s ‘a paid service which was successfully carried out’.

    Did you pay with PayPal?
You might be eligible for this

I know it says "Return Shipping Costs" but it's worth a try

You sound like a difficult person

  • I would’ve picked up because I’m quite close to their warehouse.

Yeah, they claimed on their website it was due to COVID, which was b$hit because all the other stores were doing click and collect.

I've stopped buying from them now…

  • they tell me that they don’t issue refunds for postage as it’s ‘a paid service which was successfully carried out’.

Pretty sure the ACCC would disagree, I'd fill out an official complaint..
