Menulog Won't Refund Me/Give Me a Voucher after Caffe Primo Sent Me This

How much do you think these meatballs cost me? $17.90 and the milkshake was $8, that's how the milkshake came to me, i didn't drink any of it and it didn't get spilled or anything.

They said " Because of your account history and the nature of this complaint, I will be making a follow-up with the Solutions Team, so that they can contact you as soon as possible." I first talked to them about it over a week ago. They have never replied to me not even once. What do they mean my account history? The only time i ask for vouchers is if a major item is missing, which with McDonald's is quite very often. A few months ago McDonald's Gawler forgot my entire order except for a burger and 1 fries, it was a $33 order. I got the hint that they didn't believe me. They only gave me the voucher that time because I kept going back onto the chat to talk to them 5 times.

I've probably spent between $1000-2000 in the last 2 years with Menulog.

Edit: They refunded me now

You don’t get refund easy if you have a history. They always provide me voucher in one go! With Uber its immediate refund to my card. Never had such issues.

  • +19

The driver gets thirsty too ya know…

  • +9

get what you can and never use it again

Reminds me of the definition of insanity.

    • +6

Right. If you have ongoing service issues, why still use the business?

  • +3

Hard to say without knowing what the menu description was. If it simply said "4 meatballs" then you got what you should've expected. If it was "a generous serving of out meatballs with salad and fries" then obviously something is wrong. Similarly, milkshakes can often be a lot of froth from being whisked and so will settle over time and these delivery services are often slow so who knows. Maybe you ordered a small but they didn't have any small cups so put a small serve in a larger cup?

Personally I only order from places that have their own delivery drivers and have never had a problem with missing items etc and probably place a $50+ order once a fortnight.

    • +4

"Homemade meatballs coated in breadcrumbs then lightly fried served with a cheesy rose dipping sauce."

You aren't supposed to be able to eat an $17.9 meal in 25 seconds

  • They know your username… next time order 🍕 .

this is your best fast food complaint thread by far, i actually think you are in the right here
however, i suspect the 10kg magpies that get stuck into your fast food leftovers probably helped themselves while the driver was changing desi pop radio stations

    • there wasnt enough to even give my magpies any, they went hungry

nah, look at cafe primo prices then add 25% menulog.

He chose to buy food from a fancy cafe using a delivery service..

  • +10

you seem concerned about the quantities - i would be too, because of the gross possibility that the driver had drunk and eaten some - but I'd be even more concerned about the quality - that food looks disgusting and i don't think i would eat it unless i was starving.

What do they mean my account history? The only time i ask for vouchers is if a major item is missing, which with McDonald's is quite very often. then wtf do you keep giving them your business?

    order somewhere else ffs

or much better yet; learn to make some real food for yourself!!!!!
    hint: contains vegetables

theres only uber eats, door dash and menulog that deliver here. uber have $9 delivery fees, door dash has $5 delivery fees with barely any restuaruants, and then menulog with $2 delivery fees and 100 restaurants, mcdonalds is usually free delivery

I think a little more context is needed.

If advertised as an entree, appetiser, mezze, or side dish then you got what an reasonable person would expect.

If a main or standard menu item then it's probably half what you'd expect. I'm not expecting the latter because a main usually comes with salad, vege, etc.

I've seen thickshakes served in small glasses at some cafes. Sometimes there is a small or large option.

As for the cost, I have no idea what Cafe primo is but sounds expensive, especially if it's more a restaurant than breakfast Cafe.

    • Caffe Primo is a casual dining sort of cafe - does breakfast, lunch and dinners. Used to do really cheap $9.90 meals, but put their prices up a while back but the quality didn't go with it. Only place I flatly refuse to go to, because the food is terrible and the prices are high for what you get… OP shouldn't be surprised.

    • I LOVE Subways $4 meatballs in that tiny cup with all that cheese and sauce they give you. For an actual restaurant I expected them to be.. $18 meatballs. At least $10 meatballs. The subway $4 meatballs take me at least 2 minutes to eat. These took me 20-30 seconds in total

      • +1

Do you breathe between each meatball or shove the next one in before the current one is finished?

Stop supporting these terrible businesses , call up and pick it up you lazy #$%$ that's why if you have a problem you can see it instore and the local business doesn't get screwed out of 35% for their delivery service… No body wins except for the delivery companies

  • +12

I looked at the menu https://www.caffeprimo.com.au/dine-in-menu/ and what you ordered is $13.9 side dish. They have picture on the menu and there are 4 meatballs.

    • -4

thats the arancini balls, the meat balls aren't even on the menu.

those 2 are separate to the meat balls on the menulog menu https://www.menulog.com.au/restaurants-caffe-primo/menu

      • +9

Side dish won't be a main meal. Just saying.

        • -1

my $28 parmiagana was the main meal. these meat balls were like 4 mcdonalds chicken nuggets for $18

          • +4

@ilovepizza: You knowingly ordered a side dish that cost $18 🤷‍♀️
You got what you ordered - an expensive side dish

      • Which are not only on the side menu, but cost $1 more. So thanks for admitting those were always going to be worse than that picture.

  • +3

I'd recommend people avoid menulog, they deactivated my account without telling me, when I asked why, they also said 'my history' without further explanation, but I too had several legitimate complaints, such as ordering a pizza minus an allergen but still received it covered in it rendering the pizza useless, and ordering a burger but half of the described ingredients weren't there.

    • +1

But that's a fault of the pizza maker, not Menulog. They don't make the food, they just deliver it

      • Yes, but Menulog's reaction to straightforward complaints is to ban the user.
And for those straightforward complaints, they are very evasive, I had to fight to get a refund on the pizza, and they refused any refund for the burger.
If you have any issue, they treat you like a criminal.

  • +6

Initially yeah you got ripped off.

But then I looked at the Menulog menu (extra charge) and the Cafe Primo menu… you got what you paid for,

menulog charge of $17.90 for meatballs, means the cafe probably charges 13-14 in store (menulog is around 25% higher). Looking at the prices on cafe Primo website, means they're really $8-10 meatballs elsewhere.

This is a store that sells a burger for $20 in store, and $26 on menulog

In short, you CHOSE to buy rip off items from a fancy place, using a delivery service.

    • -1

no… subway also sell meatballs and they are amazing, AT $4! i expected from a real restaurant to.. at least match meatballs from a fast food place. these were the most gross dry things i have ever tasted, and they were gone within 25 seconds. you cant even call these a side dish, they weren't even as big as my pinky finger

      • +5

If you want subway meatballs order from subway

      • subway also sell meatballs and they are amazing

Then put that in your Menulog review.

      • "no… subway also sell meatballs and they are amazing, AT $4"

Total noob fell for another massive rip off, could of got double the meatballs and bread and salald in an actual sandwich for 1$ more.

No one's forcing you to spend double on sub par food.

People calling cafe primo fancy hahahahaha

  • +2

What are you expecting out of this thread, OP?
Sympathy and virtual hugs from OzB members for ordering an expensive side dish?

You weren't happy with your meal. So, leave a bad review and move on, and don't use Menulog again as you seem to have a "history" with them.

  • +4

Side dishes/entrees are often a rip off, unless you're getting fries. As someone else said, you also have to add the menulog tax (not delivery). Combined with the fact that you've had issues before and continue to use them, I think you're in the wrong here.

It's like buying from K-Mart and constantly returning because the quality isn't up to your standard.

  • Whats wrong with the meatballs?
Maybe next time dont be so lazy and go up to the restaurant!

    No COVID19 issues any more

  • For those not looking at the menu links (most)!

I can understand $ mark-ups due to online commissions etc, BUT………
A SIDE OF FRIES is $16.90. WTF. OP hasn’t got a leg to stand on.

  • +1

I don't know about Menulog at all, never used them, never will - I make time, prepare and cook.

There is a huge difference between $1000 & $2000, but either way over an average full working life 40-50yrs, that is $40000 to $100000.

Think of the cooking lessons, great kitchen gear, and satisfaction of doing it yourself, and a darn sight healthier to boot.

Given you are settled into asking for Vouchers as a matter of standard practice, take the hint and get the cutting board out, make your own Meat Balls, and with the savings on one meal you get an Ozbargainer badge!

Can you afford to throw money at take away joints at that rate?

  • I’d be worried more about your taste in restaurants if that’s what you’re buying when you live in Gawler.
Below is a list of better ones:
    • Cafe Nova
    • Cheek Ave Charcoal Chicken
Hell, even some fresh pasta from Fasta Pasta would be better…

  • -2

If you're ordering food and having it delivered, you're stupid. Everyone knows you're getting ripped off. Totally pointless.

  • +1

I was your driver and just wanted to thank you for this delightful meal

  • With all the cooking shows on TV, I though people would know how to cook, by now. Maybe it's time to evaluate your eating habits. Like really… $30 here, there, over there, for a burger and fries seven nights a week —- seriously

  • +1

I'm not commenting on your meal size.

But be aware that uber, menulog and deliveroo charge the restaurant plus 30 to 35% of your meal costs.
So the food items need to be marked up by at least that to cover a standard meal cost.
(Remember even if the meal is plus 30% increase, the company also pockets 30% of the 30% so more like 45% just for the restaurant to break even to menu actual equivalent costs.

If you buy from these groups vs buying direct. Then you need to expect a corner cut somewhere.

I report customers taking the piss out of food services quite regularly. Uber doesn't really car, menulog does and deliveroo is a insane watch dog.

IF THE RESTAURANT DELIVERIES. The charge is 14 to 16% plus the restaurant can charge and collect the delivery fee which is the only way to survive in food. However deliver on time is a major challange.

People are happy to wait for their doctor, lawyer or Amazon package. But be more than.1 he delivery and they are insane.
Delivery should be at taxi rates, not $4 to $8. Thanks insane.

Food order delivery customers are spoilt as F. And expect $100 service for $10 food.
Average spend it going up across the platform though. That gives us a bit more breathing room.
But as a customer. You need to expect plus 30% less value or more price.
Or it just isn't worth it their side.

However saying that. Not all staff are created equal, and some do F up a order.

Meatballs are likely right, but milkshake would be a mistake.

I get a insane amount of people pay $14 for a single beef rib that is 70% bone. Never understood that when have so many other deals built around a meal.

    • OP has resolved issue and received refund. Comments closed.
    • OP feels this is unresolved now. 11/4
  • Merged from Are companies allowed to say they will not refund for missing items for future purchases?

A certain food delivery company sent an email to me saying they will refund me one more time but for future purchases they will not be refunding me in the future. I don't think they are allowed to say/do that. All i have done is ask for refunds/vouchers when i got missing items/mainly McDonald's due to them screwing up the order 95% of the time literally. One time McDonald's literally forgot 90% of the $33 order.

    • +13

This is the exact same complaining post as your last one. I think it's you, not them.

      • what… if you order $30 of food and they miss $5-10 of the order you would want a refund/voucher

        • +4

To a point where more than one company don't want your business?

        • and usually i don't ask for refunds for $5.. its mainly $10+ that i ask for a voucher. there were a lot of times they forgot a single fries or drink that i didn't ask for a refund/voucher.

    • +9

Maybe start going to collect the food yourself and check it before you leave the store. You obviously don’t trust the stores or delivery drivers, so this may be the only solution.

      • -1

i do… the store screws up in person too

Can you not, go pick up your orders yourself? It’s usually cheaper to pick up than delivery… this is OzB afterall where pricing matters.

      • -2

i can't drive, i have essential tremor. so my only choice is food delivery.

        • essential tremor

          Sorry to hear that :(

How do you do your shopping? Delivery too? I’m just thinking maybe go with places that do direct delivery or you have found to be reliable. Less options but more reliable.

          • @SF3: i get coles delivered occasionally. the only place that delivers here directly is domino's, not even pizza hut. you get tired of pizza after awhile

            • +7

@ilovepizza: Ok, you may also want to consider changing your user name. :)

              • @SF3: i should change that to "you get tired of domino's pizza after awhile"

        • In that case, I think it will be cheaper to subscribe to some thing like Doordash DashPass or Deliveroo monthly one (there was one before but not sure whether they still have that).

      • That's kind of the point of this thread, the question in the title. Don't know why people are reporting this for duplicates.

    • You can make your own McDonald's style burgers pretty easily these days, the brioche style buns are very popular now and can be bought everywhere.

    • +1

I would tell them if you don't want to refund missing items stop screwing up the order, how is it your fault they are so incompetent.

    • +1

sorry to read that you are in poor health - tbh if I was the business, id consider constant complaints and refund requests a problematic customer & cut off all service entirely
I know you feel you are in the right (and probably are?) but these services track public opinion and I doubt they are catering to restaurants that are 2 or fewer stars (which would indicate problematic business rather than customer)

solution - order from the places that have a good track record?

I have a question, do you spend as much time giving praise to good business as you do complaining about bad business? that's one way you can try and garner favor. If you become somebodies best customer, I highly doubt you are gonna get the shit end of the stick

      • the 2 local mcdonalds near me are 3.4 and 3.6 stars, a lot of missing item complaints

and yes, the chip shop sent me a message in my next order saying thanks for the great review for my last order

also, Menulog used to be great, they would always refund straight away/give vouchers. Then they started saying they will send an email within a week, which never happens i would always have to go back on a few days later on the live chat.

        • +1

I guess this is the core issue here.
Some of the places you order from are not competent.
The delivery company bears the cost of fixing the problem (the hassle at least), so they don’t want your business because you keep ordering from the bad suppliers.
They can refuse your business, and you can refuse theirs. You can’t force them to do business with you if they have said they will only continue doing so on new terms (no more replacements).

It sounds like you should not use them for McDonald’s orders, and everything will be ok.
