    i didn't realize liven is a form of discount/offer/promo…

I thought liven was just a form of payment. I wonder what restaurants have to pay to accept liven.

    • Every restaurant on Liven offers a % back (from 10% usually) in Liven credit otherwise there would be no point of using Liven over your credit card.

      • You think the restaurants cop that circa 10% discount?

I wonder because I've been to laska king flemington all my life, and they only accept cash with a private ATM in store for those who have no cash. (which I know LK would get a cut/rental from ATM supplier). This made me think they really focus on lowering costs by no accepting credit cards etc.

Then one day, they started accepting liven with 10% back (and 20% on Care packages). There's no way in my mind LK would suddenly start paying to accept another form of payment, they have no incentive to. So concluded liven cops the discount (and amex merchant fee). Now I don't know again…

        • Usually they offer it for free or a lower price and then once there is a following start charging a fee. That's what Uber Eats did when they first landed here and now they take 20 or 30%.

Liven works on an app which from some of the places I've seen is usually just a phone whereas EFTPOS needs a terminal which attracts not only a % fee but rentals plus you need to have a phone line or connected to network. Liven, Eatclub, EASI may be a way to pay and get a rewards but it also works to market the business and I'm sure results in more business from people using these apps albeit at a smaller margin.

On a side note, the co-founder of Liven has one of the strangest things I've ever heard Lifehacker

          What’s your sleep routine like?
Only when I fly. I sleep on an ‘as needed’ basis only. When I need rest I’ll take it, but otherwise I’m staying up most of the time trying to squeeze in the most work I can and manage relationships across multiple time zones.

        • Hakata Gensuke (Carlton) used to be 50% off Zomato gold so probably this branch struggling in sales somewhat and have decided to absorb costs.

          • @dasher86: Ages since they have been on zomato gold though probably 18 months. Not really 50 percent off either unless you order 2 things the same price without sides/drinks. For this reason I prefer eatclub though some of the venues of their are quite lousy.

        • Thanks very much!

I didn't know you can pay via Liven … will join up.

I also wonder who is paying for it. I too doubt LK would pay for it nor can Liven lose money forever…

How dodgy is having a private ATM in a restaurant!!

As long as LK keeps their prices low, I don't really care if I have to pay via Cash.

          • @JimB: It’s the first time I’ve seen a atm inside a restaurant. But pretty clever. I remember once reading that tiny spots in cbd rent out to ATMs, and knew LK would be making money from that ATM provider. LK are just so savvy, and keeps their food portions large at low prices. So happy to pay cash too.

            • @cloudy: I've seen it in other dodgy Asian cash only restaurants in Springvale too.

A big FU to the tax man.. lol..

I too have been a long time LK customer.. pity I don't live closer. I don't get to go as often now I have kids.

I use to go to their old restaurant in the arcade on Racecourse Rd…. no one believes me you were able to get blood clams added to your Laska for $1 or 2….

              • @JimB: Ha yea, like you I remember the days they were inside the arcade with blockbuster on the other side!

  • great ramen. really sad they closed down the one at doncaster
