    This or a PS5 ???

    Which is better?

    • +1

Just see what you want to play, seriously I don't think you really want to buy XD

      • Just see what you want to play

Most games come on both platforms though, so apart from that, which one is better ?

Is there a feature comparison somewhere? pros / cons ??

        • what separates them will be 1st party games.

MS lagged far behind but went on a shopping spree of developers a few years ago. They bought some major studios to take games away from PS (Fallout, Elder Scrolls, Doom are the major ones). If you want to play those and don't have a PC, that's your reason to get the XSX.

        Already have one…

Not as comfortable as lying on the couch playing console games.

        • +1

If you don't already have Xbox account with a lot of games on it, I would go for PS5.

          • @superforever: Currently have a PS4…

Just wondering if it's worth switching across…

            • +2

@jv: If you are not very serious gaming, just leave it with PS4.

            • @jv: It might be worth considering upgrading to PS5 down the line when the console and games are cheaper.
Most games are still available on PS4 so you're not missing much either than prettier graphics and the new controller

        • +2

plug it into your TV and get a controller.

my PC is 10x more comfier then couch, secret labs chair - 32 inch curved 240 hz monitor….artics headphones…..I can sit there all day

    • +1

PS5, better quality exclusives IMO and Bigger library.

    • PC or Switch

    • Probably an Xbox with game pass subscription for most casual gamers. Don't think they'll find a better value way to get into gaming. Game pass subscription is ridiculous value. Especially if you do the 3 years of Xbox Live Gold Brazil converted into Game Pass Ultimate.

Hardcore gamers would probably want both eventually to get access to all the exclusives. I was once a hardcore gamer, these days i barely rate as a casual gamer but still have the mindset of needing all consoles.

This gen I chose Xbox as my full price console. Will grab PS5 when it's easily available with decent deals. Some casual gamers might be keen on some of the PS5 exclusives and prefer to opt for that though. Everyone is different.

Is there a feature comparison somewhere? pros / cons ??

      Series X PS5
      CPU Slightly faster
GPU More CUs, lower clock (overall faster) Less CUs, higher clock speed (generally slower overall); 1 dedicated core for sound processing
      SSD Bandwidth PCIe 3.0 x4 or PCIe 4.0 x2 PCIe 4.0 x4 equivalent
SSD WD Blue SN530 DRAMless WD Custom NVMe SSD - could be DRAMless (6 priority levels)
Expansion CFExpress (PCIe 3.0 x4) m.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 (need to be able to hit 7 GB/s)
WiFi Wifi AC Wifi AX (Wifi 6)
      Bluetooth (Not supported) Bluetooth 5.1
      HDMI 2.1 (40Gbps) 2.1 (32Gbps)
4K 60 HDR Limited to HDMI 2.0 (4:2:2) In HDMI 2.1 mode, it is 4:4:4. For display with HDMI 2.0 only, it is 4:2:2
4K 120 HDR Works with TV Some compatibility issue with some receivers 4K 120 HDR is limited to 4:2:2
VRR Supported Future firmware upgrade (likely will require HDMI 2.1 display)
      USB 3 USB 3.1 gen 2 ports, USB-A 3 USB 3.1 gen 2 ports (2x USB-A, 1 USB-C) 1 USB 2 port (USB-A, for charging)
Controller Minor update, backward compatible with XB1 New DualSense controller

      Main key selling point:

PS5 - First party exclusives. Essentially, some of their first party exclusives need to be enough factor to entice you to buy the console.
Series X - Game Pass Ultimate. While there will be more exclusives this gen, they will be available on PC as well.

      • I know you're just answering what he asked but I think it's important to note that PS5 has been outperforming Series X in pretty much every game so far with a much more stable experience even though series X is more powerful. Just goes to show how important a good sdk is.

        • Not exactly. For the initial set of games released late 2020, we did see games which run better on PS5 (e.g. AC Valhalla). However, lately, there are games which run better on Series X. Though a number of them are due to the PS5 version is done via optimising PS4 Pro version thus the resolution is lower than Series X (so there is likely some room to improve the PS5 version, but that means some coding / packaging adjustment).

The performance difference isn't a big deal right now for people as PS5 version of games are outselling XB Series X games (even for those which run slightly better on Series X). As I mentioned in other other comments, my RDR2 XBox One version had a lower trade in value vs PS4 version (I support both camps and I could have bought the PS4 version before).

If Horizon Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart do get released this year on time, PS5 should have a good lineup this year.

    • Both!

If only MS would allow Windows to be installed on it, or at least PC Steam.

EDIT: What kind of monster would disagree with that statement to the point of downvoting it? Do you not realise the potential of gaming consoles to play PC games as they use the same architecture or do you hate PC gaming that much that you would want to prevent console gamers from playing PC games?

    • +2

Didn't neg but they'd never do something like that.
The reason the system is relatively cheap is that they sell at around cost price (or even at a loss) and earn the money through selling games.
If they allowed Steam, they now are forced to compete on their own system which would be crazy

      • I'd be happy paying a licence fee or just more for a console where I could use my Steam/Origin/Epic libraries.

I think there's a lot of money to be made there, as MS owns Windows and they already let you use the Xbox Game Pass library on PC/Xbox. If they charged a $200 premium, that's 200 million dollars extra in their pockets for every million people that pay for it.

It would also be a very attractive carrot to those on the fence about PS5 or Xbox SX.

        • They'd probably earn more making players buy the game again on their platform.
Also people might just buy games exclusively through Steam since it will be available on both their PC and console so that's a lot of lost sales
Plus there's probably issues with licensing between MS, steam and publishers
As cool as it sounds for consumers, it seems very unrealistic and even suicidal from a business perspective

        • I already use Steamlink to play Steam games through my TV, Nvidia Shield and the Shield controller. Howbeit you need to have the games installed on a PC to do it.

    • They never will as they sell consoles at a loss to drive market/game sales.

Bought it so I can enjoy the awesomeness of these next-gen games…OH WAIT…ABORT, ABORT.

    • Yup, don't see the point of owning either next gen console for another 6 months. Will hold off on PS5 until they fix their controller BS

      • Will hold off on PS5 until they fix their controller BS

I'll buy one next year when they're selling for around $450…

  • xbox is so good Im considering buying another for my bedroom even though I dont play one in the lounge since im a PC player

    • I dont play one in the lounge since im a PC player

      Thanks for letting us know.

  • How many do they have, how can it go out of stock so fast.

  • Bought this one on an impulse as my last console was a PS3 and current GPU pricing and low priority on building a gaming machine made the console an easier choice.

Will eventually buy a powerful GPU once/if prices become reasonable for VR.
