        Tasmania's Salmon farming practices aren't much better…

        • Same. Best to buy Alaska wild salmon.

          • @bruceclipse: It's not readily available in australia

            • @inasero: Costco has Alaska Sockeye in the freezer section.

@bruceclipse: Costco's few locations make it not readily available in australia

                11 stores for 25M population
70k return journey to nearest store in Brisbane. Then need to pay membership! Forget it Costco!

                • @INFIDEL: Then you are missing out all the goodies buddy
                  Long on $COST!

@bruceclipse: Would you drive 70k to save a few $?
                    That would make no sense.

The travel costs, waste of time getting to a store, & membership fee makes Costco uneconomic for most.

As only a small proportion of Australians live close to those 11 Costco, it's not available to many.

Am so close to supermarkets, can walk to all the majors.

                    • @INFIDEL: Fortunately for me 😃 I live 7km away from the nearest Costco.

@bruceclipse: Handy for you, not for most.

Costco's strategy is to make locations easy to supply (outer suburbs & industrial areas), lowering their costs of distribution. It should remove the costs of distribution centres - which are then incorporated into the stores.

Rather than making it easy for consumers to access (like other supermarkets), that increases consumer's costs to access those locations.

Its basic cost shifting onto us.
Lower cost bulk products, but higher costs to access their limited locations for consumers.

      • Regardless of Costco not being readily accessible, after watching the documentary you linked to I certainly will be cutting right down on my consumption of farmed basa and salmon products! Thanks for sharing
