2gb ram is not enough for android…

    • +1

It is a problem on a phone if you are switching between multiple apps.

But on a tablet that is playing a video, or running an educational app, you'll be OK.

      • +3

        Nah, OzVictor is right.

        • My kid has a Nokia with 2GB. Nothing fancy, but fine to use. I can't vouch for the JVC though.

  • +9

Pity about the crap CPU / ram, the bigger than average screen and 4g is nice.

  • Cheers OP - good replacement for our recently broken kids tablet ;)

  • Can we use to play Netflix/Amazon prime etc?

  • +6

Thanks OP, I was looking for a new budget dual sim phone with a big screen.

  • Faster than an iPad mini 1?

  • +3

JVC is not the original JVC anymore.

  • Fine for consumption of media

  • My only questions are, why is there a windows key on the keyboard and is this a Bluetooth keyboard or does it attach like a surface pro? I will give this tablet a go and sell if terrible.

    • isnt that android tablet ??

    • Sounds like a legit question - upon zooming in on the pics, this Android tablet does have a windows key… No idea why.

      • I think it is great… as it can be re used for another tablet (including one running windows) once this JVC tablet breaks down.

    • If you zoom in on the photo with the tablet detached from the keyboard, there are contacts in the middle. So it is possible that the connection is not bluetooth.

I can't see a specific Bluetooth pairing button on the keyboard (there could be but not clear to me) so this keyboard may not be compatible with other devices. (It's my guess)

  • +3

Good to see JVC has moved from quality TVs to quality tablets.

    (tongue firmly in cheek…)

  • Anybody tried it? How is the sound on it? My wife use an old iPad 3 to play youtube but too slow and too old.

    • +6

please clarify, is you wife too slow and too old or the ipad3?

      • +1

too slow and too old or the ipad3?

        XDD iPad3

        • +1

Youtube is not a demanding app, I'm surprised an ipad3 could struggle.

Maybe it's more of a slow wifi/internet issue for you?

          • @DiscoveryCamel: The problem is no more update from iPad3 and lately youtube app keep popup said need update but it won't.

  • wouldnt via shopback 12% cash back and paying with a Woolworths Wish Gift Cards as a payment method work out cheaper then ebay?
would like to know how this one performs compared to an old SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB S2 SM-T719Y that has 3GB of ram , Snapdragon 620 MSM8976 but with android 7?.

    • Shopback cashback for electronics @Big W is 5% not 12%.

  • +1

If this is Android Go, 2GB RAM is good enough. We don't have information for that, either from ebay or Big W.

    • if someone has purchased one can they please confirm if its Android Go please?

  • Thinking of suitability of mounting this on the dash. It's probably a bit too big.

Side question: Would this thing be considered a mobile phone in the context of mobile phone usage for restricted license holders if it was just used for navigation? https://roadsafety.transport.nsw.gov.au/stayingsafe/mobileph…

    • Nah it's the perfect size IMO. Just make it look factory mounted and they won't have a clue.

  • Would this be able to handle video use like youtube, netflix, kayo etc?

I assume browsing will be fine too?

Not a power user and likely will rarely be used for gaming.

    Link to manual:

    https://jvctv.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/IM_AV-11NT51…

Looks like it runs normal Android 10.0 (not Go), and the keyboard is a physical connection, not bluetooth.

Will be picking mine up in the next hour or two so can confirm above and app performance etc.

    • +3

The screen is no oled that's for sure, but for the price, I'd say pretty good value (colours a tiny bit dull) . It is snappy enough from my experience with it. Given I have not tested web browsing with it. It doesn't have a cheap feel about it either, but certainly not premium. I am so far happy with the purchase.

    • +2

thanks mate i awaiting for you to report back before i bite the bullet.

  • It will stay as Android 10 forever.

    • Absolutely right.

  • I wonder if the title said this was a phone would it have got more upvotes?
Seems like a pretty awesome deal to me if it works good enough for web browsing.
People were paying $349.00 for it on eBay as recently as the 13/03/21.

    https://jvctv.com.au/product/11-6-4g-wi-fi-pro-tablet-with-k…

  • I bought this (tablet) for a 4 year old

This post officer. This is gross case of child abuse. Everyone knows it's top of the line iPad pro for children.

Curious if this can run say lineageos.

  • KB is not BT. Manual is on the JVC website.

    My mini review:

    • Installed Nova Launcher - much nicer than the custom launcher
    • Keyboard / case - the faux leather is not great, however the keyboard itself is decent, the trackpad is also very good, and the magnetic "dock" connection is solid
    • Netflix and YouTube worked perfectly, however I couldn't get any higher than 960x540 using Kayo set to Auto (have no problems getting 1920x1080 on an older Samsung tablet)?
    • Angry Birds 2 played fine
    • General menu browsing and web browsing is fine
    • Overall, I'm happy with the price / value of the tablet, especially given the screen size, the decent keyboard / trackpad, and the fact that it can take a sim card
    • +1

Thx for the review! Got one for the old man.

    • +1

Thanks for the review. Got one now.

    • Thanks bought it with CR Choice gift card with extra 5% cash back.

https://www.bigw.com.au/product/jvc-11-6-android-powered-4g-… price up to $199 now but eBay still good.

      • It's still $169 on ebay with the code, I think it got marked expired just because it went up on the big w site

    • +1

So netflix works in fhd and not sd on most Chinese tablets if it works at all?

      • Finally got around to checking this, and it looks like Netflix is not FHD, as the tablet appears to only support Widevine L3, not L1:

        https://help.netflix.com/en/node/116633

Probably explains why Kayo is limited to 960x540 too.

Saying that, Netflix somehow still looks half decent, and YouTube is FHD, and it's not a deal breaker for me personally as this tablet is for the kids, but may be a deal breaker for some.

    • +1

Have to agree. I have be using it heavily and it does all I want it to. Exceptional value for the price.

      • Ordered one for delivery, have you used it as a phone yet? Can't believe it's dual sim!

        • +1

No, I haven't - I have data only sim. The dual sim is a pretty rare feature for the price point.

    • Any problem with file transfer to PC? I had an issue with it. Connected the usb cable with PC, it is charging but not recognized by PC. Tested the cable, PC driver, tablet settings with develop mode, doesn't work at all. Any idea, please? Thanks.

      • I think I had the same problem when it was connect to the keyboard.

Try removing the keyboard and then connect it to the PC via the USB and see if that works.

        • +1

Thanks mate, disconnect the keyboard, working well.

  • Was hoping to stack the code with my ebay plus coupon, but only allows one code :(

    • +1

Can have more than one code with gift card but not the eBay plus coupon.

  • Ordered 3. Dispatched. Annnd I could've saved $77.40 with PAPDY20.

    • +1

Yeah bought too early today morning before PAPDY20. :(

But I was busy today and no time to check anyway.

      OOS now.

    • +1

Tried to chat with eBay support and they said nothing they can do with the code now.

  • +3

So far very nice with mine. Intentionally not loading it up with apps on mine has a very specific use case as an adjunct to the TV.

It has very nice sound so far (the notification sound is loud) the keyboard case connects well and works okay as a fixed angle stand. There is no Windows key :)

There is no 5GHz Wifi. The bands on 4G do seem limited but I haven't figured out which networks (it's going to stay in my house).

Not many apps preinstalled which is a plus. A Google search seemed to indicate it might be able to be rooted.

I am using it as a CCTV security monitor (wish I could P-in-P on the TV that's what this approximates) and the extra inches on the screen is good for that.

And BIG W click and collect was Very good (albeit all the way at the back of the store).

    • And BIG W click and collect was Very good

I should have select C&C now have to wait until next week from QLD

    • Just wondering any way to have the tablet stand up without keyboard, just like iPad with cover?

    • +1

ok I got mine too,and I have a couple of things to add. The build quality and finish reminds me of the old Ainol tablets, not bad at all but at the same time not uber premium.Nice enough if you are not too ainol about things. after recently also purchasing a Lenovo Duet, the quality of that is clearly better, things that stand out are the keyboard doesn't flex as much, with the JVC as I sit on the couch typing this every so often my space bar presses aren't registering for that reason. Also the keyboard doesn't turn the screen off when you close it which is a given these days on almost all devices. Also the stand part of the keyboard is one of those triangular folding ones that only has one angle, so it's not exactly premium, but if you only plan on using the keyboard at a desk and not on your lap these things might not matter so much.

Still, it has advantages over the duet, apart from 4g, 11.6"screen, it run android so just about all apps should be available, and this will therefore let you edit microsoft office files without paying additional for a license, and who doesn't like free? not to mention being almost 150 bucks less. apart from that no other complaints and would still highly recommend to those that can live with such things.

    • I tried to root it, but failed. Anyone has done it? Thanks

  • Arrived today morning in a very big box.

  • I just got mine bubble wrapped in a bag. Looks like big w doesn't ship from a central warehouse, showed up that is was coming from the localish big w during tracking

Seems a nice Android phablet, especially at this price I’m impressed after some teething woes.

OK. One was delivered to me (Perth) from Melbourne Vic (18th through 22nd).
Other two are being processed at a facility in Brisbane Qld (19th …)

Box came, 9 a.m., shrink-wrapped, unviolated condition inside the bubble lined big satchel.

Anecdote: After using it all afternoon, and now comparatively, the heck’s wrong with my Nokia 5.3 display looking a muddy yellow brown all of a sudden - answer is I had gotten used to the default standard Color temperature setting on the Nokia, its balance between Cold and Warm.

The JVC displays paper whites, and bumped up to max brightness a little blinding.

    Some tidbits not already mentioned:

Plays 1080p60 (h264 AVC and x265 HEVC at high bitrates e.g. 110mbps) smoothly (int. drive).
Skips frames trying to playback 3840x2160 even at low bitrates. 10bit and gui is unresponsive.

Writing this in Google Docs, it’s like I’m on my Surface Go, only this device is actually snappier.

    Issues or defects:
Initially, the keyboard attachment recognition was and can be sporadic.
There’s a small chip out of my phablet where bezel meets glass, big enough to fit a rounded toothpick.

Ampere app returns max. capacity as 2900 mAh, so, if not incorrect, 6000 mAh be deceptive!
(Battery drain did seem like half the advertised spec, to be honest.)

You can slowly charge the device while using it even with a current between 500mA and 1A.

Vodafone or other mobile provider fix if you’ve got no mobile internet by default with this device:
(You will have to set your Wi-Fi again after applying this fix.)
(If you haven’t messed with initial settings or any networking toggles, you can jump to step 3.)

    1. First enable the problem SIM if it isn’t already.
That’s done in Settings -> Network & Internet:
(Otherwise its settings might not get reset in next step.)

    2. System -> Advanced -> Reset options -> Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
Hit reset them settings and once more after entering your PIN.

    3. Network & Internet -> Mobile network -> Advanced -> Access point names
then open the active APN, for example,
      Vodafone PXT (that is live.vodafone.com)

Set “APN protocol” to IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6
Set “APN roaming protocol” to IPv4 or IPv4/IPv6

You must hit Save from the top right options before leaving Edit access point.

    • +1

Bugger, just returned mine and came here to warn people of the of Vodafone no data issue on 4G. Went through the APN settings but didn't do the 2 you mentioned.

      • Yeah I found that some device may need to manually enter the APN.

        • Mine still hasn't arrived but I have saved all that helpful information you posted for future reference! Thank you ;)

      • Are we able to return after tried? Generally speaking, it's value for the money. But just 2GB DDR RAM feeling still not enough for Android system, a little bit slow from my experience. Thanks.

        • +1

yep, i set it up and couldn't get 4G data working and refunded after i explained. Just factory reset and put back in the box. It good for the price, if i got the 4G working i would have been happy for $179.

    • AccuBattery Pro gives:
Design capacity (initial value) 2,900 mAh.
Estimated capacity (charging) 4,900 mAh; rounded down.

19th through 26th others got delivered in BigW cardboard.

  • +2

Just a quick follow up - leaving the keyboard attached drains the battery very quickly. If you want better standby time, then remove keyboard when not in use
