I wanted to install security screen doors for my home in Melbourne. Last December after the lockdown was over I visited the Head office showroom/factory of what seems a good company with many branches, looked at the display doors, talked about the stuff and a few days later a friendly guy turned up, took measurements, gave me the work order quote and I approved. Received quote in email. I didn't have to pay any deposit.
At the time the guy said due to Christmas shutdown I am looking at early Feb for installation. Called up in Feb and he apologized and said there is delay in manufacturing and I am looking a first week of March. I said I am very unhappy.
Feb passed and I didn't hear back. Called yesterday and the office lady took the call, again said they are having backlog and said the guy will call me back to update me. I haven't got any callback.
Apart from the fact that I am angry, is there a genuine lack if manufacturing capacity in the industry? Do we not have steel or workers?
The only saving grace is I didn't have to make an upfront deposit, but this is ridiculous. I fear that if I got to another company they will also take 3m+ as this is an systemic industry issue.
How will the economy work if it takes more than 3 months to make a door?
Call around, get a new quote, see how fast they can deliver. If they can do it within a week and you're happy with the price cancel the first order
