For how long is it free?

    • Until the end of Feb, so a while yet ;)

  • so end of feb is when the deal expires or when you start paying for the service? How much per month normally?

    • +3

Sorry guys, this is free for life :) The offer ends 29/02/2012. I'll update the post to make it clearer.

Not useful for me since I don't own a business, but a + for the good deal.

  • +6

Well, the price is right. Thanks Rep.

    FYI for others …

    Free Hosting:
    500mb disk space
    5gb data transfer
    1 MySQL DB
    1 Addon Domain
    1 FTP Account
    10 email accounts
    24/7 ticket support
    cPanel Control panel
    No phone support
    ABN Required

    • Good deal because it's free, but seriously 500mb and 5gb data transfer, unless you just starting out or your business is going under I don't think this is enough. For my forum we filled 5GB in just over 1 month, and that was our disk space not bandwidth used.
Still though you can beat free. :D

Most small businesses only need a small amount of storage space. But if you feel your site is reaching its limit feel free to submit a support ticket as we are more than happy to review it on a case by case basis :)

        • Unfortunately I can't positive the deal more than once as I would positive it again just for that comment, it's rare to see web hosts that are even slightly lenient on their plans, let alone on a free plan. Mine has kicked up a fuss before just for getting them to white-list IP's for our TF2 servers to talk to our ban lists. I hope you get a lot of good and paying business from this promotion.

      • +1

You can't compare requirements for a web forum with requirements for a small business website.

        • I understand that but I'm just pointing out that the limits can easily be pushed, even just for bandwidth usage I think the 5gb p/month will become a big restriction unless there isn't much traffic we have just under 3000 members, but I imagine a business would probably draw more activity than that. And if high quality pics are used to show customers the products then the 500mb I think will become a restriction as well. Obviously if you're a plumber/electrician and you just need something ultra basic then yea I don't think you'll have any issue with the limits.

My comment wasn't to try to discourage people from grabbing this bargain, more just as a bit of advice from my experience, I know a lot of small businesses if they are selling their own products might even want a forum on their site to deal with customer support. Regardless of this it's still a fantastic deal, as most free things are. :D

  • Thanks exia. Is there any other way to get this deal? I don't use facebook.

    • +1

wouldnt be that hard…i was thinking of making a FB account for all these bargins. They dont even care if its fake, they just want a like.

    • +2

If you just go to http://www.facebook.com/ServersAustralia?sk=app_137224166346… I believe you may not even be required to "Like" the page. But its preferred if you do!

  • Thanks for this hosting offer - I registered my company website .com.au ages ago but never got around to hosting it. I ticked the box to transfer from my other registrar, will you guys do that for me automatically or is there anything else I need to do?

    • Normally to transfer a domain name from one provider to another there is a charge involved. However you can leave your domain where it is and just change your nameservers to the ones that you will get in the welcome e-mail once your account is approved :) This is the cheapest and fastest way.

  • How do I register?

Edit: nm… Just found it abn is required just as a heads up

  • Hi Exia,

I currently host my business on netregistry and my website has been created using their templates. Do you know if I can transfer these pages or the complete site as-is, or would I need to copy the html code on each page and paste into your templates etc? I also have commerce pages too with paypal buttons.
    Any advice appreciated.

If you have FTP access to your website it "should" be as simple as copying everything from them to us. You may need to contact their support asking for FTP details. You can then download a free FTP client like Filezilla and login with those details. Just download everything from Netregistry and then login to your Servers Australia account via FTP and upload to the WWW folder.

If you get stuck our free hosting account comes with 24/7 ticket support but it may take a day or so for a reply as most of the team are still on holidays :)

Nice deal but you really shouldn't be sending passwords for a business site in a plain text email, and it also worries me about how it is stored on your servers

    • As with any randomly generated password, you should always reset it as soon as you login to your account for the first time :)

      • +4

It's not a randomly generated password, it's the password I entered when signing up, which was emailed in plaintext with the registration confirmation. Feel free to ignore me, but you guys need to fix this right away if you want to be a serious business ISP.It is surprising because the password should not appear in plaintext ever, it shouldn't even be stored in plaintext in the database.

        • Thanks for the feedback! I'll pass it along and see what we can do ;)

        • +2

I absolutely hate it when companies send you the damn password in an email. I chose the password I know what it is!

I'm with scynaz on this. How are you storing our passwords and other sensitive information? If it's not secure then I'd be inclined to cancel my account even if it is free. So please let me know.

Also, the sign up page isn't completely secure since there are objects on there that don't have a valid certificate and to be honest if you want to be taken seriously then both these things need to be fixed. Might as well get an SSL certificate for the entire website, it's not exactly expensive

        • I agree with your statements about companies that store passwords in plantext, however if they are going to do it, I would prefer that they DID give indications (like sending it to you by email) that they are doing it than to secretly store it in plain text.

You should be using unique passwords anyway.

        • Probably unencrypted in their send items list, inside outlook.

It will only take anonymous a few minutes to leak all those.

Luckily no one out there re-uses passwords. cough

  • So it's free web hosting but not domain registration?

    • Its just the hosting part, domain registration isn't included unfortunately.

  • is this only valid for .com.au domains?

    • and how much is domain registration on top of?

      • You can host any domain name with it. Domain registration pricing is available when your going through the order process :)

  • +1

i subscribed and got my email confirmed, what's next? no instruction in email

    stuck and lost.

    • +1

Don't worry! We manually verify every order to ensure that they meet the requirements and they arn't spam. We've had a huge number of sign ups and they are literally coming in faster than we can check and approve.

Once approved you'll get a welcome e-mail with complete details for your new hosting account.

  • Good deal!

We are shopping around for a new host, so will try this for our new business and see how it goes

if all goes well, you will convert us into a paid customer with VPS :)

(Like any promo, i take this is what your hoping for )

  • I'm transferring from ZipHosting, are you handling all of it, or do I need to pass on the passwords etc. to you?

    • We are happy to assist with any website transfers where possible, once your account has been approved just e-mail [email protected] with all of your details and what you need transferred and we will do our best for you.

However with the huge number of requests this is generating requests may take a bit to action.

  • Am I the only one getting "Account Temporarily Unavailable" error when I try to go to the facebook url?

    • I didn't get it, jsut found it annoying to browse within facebook

    • Sorry, not sure why that is. Maybe try again later?

    • Sorry please ignore. It was a Facebook issue.

  • @ exia

do you get access to park a domain with this account as i also own the .com and .com.au i know it says you can addon a domian but i will need to park the .com ontop my .com.au.

    • That's fine, you can use the addon domain to park your second one.

  • So is the hosting based in Australia or the US ?

    • 100% Australian Hosting.

  • -1

Can you sign up for multiple times (either as separate accounts or under the same accounts) for different websites? (same ABN) I can't find the Ts & Cs for it.

  • I managed to register, however when I log into
https://my.serversaustralia.com.au/myaccount I see status "Pending" so I am assuming I can only access my account and transfer the files after the status changes. How about if I login to https://my.serversaustralia.com.au portal and use same password why do I get invalid login !

  • Are credit card details necessary to complete the order?

    • I just selected direct deposit as payment and my account was activated about 11pm. You should not need to enter CC details.

      • No you don't need to enter CC details. Only if your buying a domain name or other service. If however it is asking you then just use Bank Transfer as the payment option.

      • Ahhh I was stupid enough to enter my CC details. Also does this free deal include registering the domain adress?

        • No it doesn't include a domain address, this deal is just for the hosting.

        • Is it a once-off fee to host the domain address?

        • No Paradox there is no fee stated and the domain would cost you $2-4/year if you waited and got the best deals.

  • Hi, where do i get account pin?

    • This will be sent to you once your account has been approved.

  • It this only for business or for people with business

    • We just ask you have a valid ABN, if you wish to host a personal website under it that is fine as well.

  • Hi,
My parents own a small business and have an ABN but have no use for hosting. Would I be able to use their ABN and create a personal website or is it just for hosting websites for businesses?

    • Yep this is fine as well :)

  • thanks for this rep, I will be using this kind offer for sure in a few weeks, one to skip the possibly massive queue and two to get myself a new cheap domain, I note offer ends in end of FEB.

  • Hi Exia

the 5gb transfer…. thats per month?

the emails…. can they be forwarded ? is there a charge ?

    • This is per month.

      • oh and e-mails can be forwarded at no extra charge, its all done through cPanel.

  • I tried to access your facebook page this morning but found nothing but a blank facebook page. Any advice? Thanks

    • We had some issues with the facebook page, it should be fine now ;)

  • I'm struggling to sign up for this
Cannot find where the free one is on 19.95 package

  • Hi OP,

Can we change the domain name in the hosting nameserver or the hosting nameserver is pretty much stuck with the first domain that you registered with.

eg: i first register as www.example.com.au, can this be changed to www.otherexample.com.au after registration

  • Can we get an SSH with this free web hosting? I tried to login via SSH but was told that its not activated and to contact support for activation. I contacted support via cpanel but there was no response since.. its been 7 days and counting..

    • Hi adrn,

No, you would have to upgrade your account to a paid account to get SSH. Do you have a ticket number so i can chase up why your ticket was not responded to?

      Regards
      Craig
