  • Anything for NVME SSD?

    • 2tb? No idea. Saw a deal earlier for 1tb Evo plus for $150ish after cash back.

      • Is NVME expensive because of the form factor?

        • Yes and also it is quite a lot faster like 4x to 6x faster than this SSD depending on which one you get 🙂

  • man every single 2tb 860 evo is out of stock on ebay lol.

    • It's cause everyone bought them up from this deal lol

  • +1

Just got my order and it was an 870 EVO

    • that is not good… request for a refund?

      • +1

I just messaged the seller and will ask for a $87 partial refund (difference in the two Samsung cashbacks), a swap, or a refund.

        • Let us know how you go…mine is 'out for delivery' so will find out soon hopefully.

        • why not open a dispute in Paypal? mine will be delivered soon and I reckon it's going to be 870 EVO

          • @randomrandom: Most likely outcome from paypal dispute is full refund, so let's wait and see.

            • @monkp: got reply from them,

              Hi NAME,

Thank you for contacting us, unfortunately for this order there were no more 860 Evo drives available and for this order our system automatically allocated the stock to be upgraded to the 870 Evo. If you do not wish to keep the drive, feel free to reject the delivery and we can process a full refund once back.

I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused.

              Kind Regards,
              Steven.

              • @randomrandom: Thanks for the update, I will proceed with the return when I got my order.

              • @randomrandom: got the same message, I do need the drive.. but not sure if it's still a bargain after the ebay discount and cashback.. hmm

                • @cray: so $236 factored in the cashback, still a good deal for 2TB 870 EVO. However, we all want $149 for 2TB… (oh well, it was too good to be true I guess…).

                  • @netsurfer: I just asked for a $87 refund will let you know how it goes.

        • Best of luck - I'll be in the same position I think although my order actually says a QVO drive, not even EVO!

I had a dispute for over 1 month with ebay/shallothead over an AMD 3900x CPU which I ordered in an Ebay sale and they cancelled because of lack of stock without telling me…then relisted at an inflated price! It seems Shallothead/Futu, etc. under the name Kai Seng Computers have some very shonky practices but because they have a lot of throughput on ebay don't have enough blacklists to make up a % great enough for ebay to do anything and are essentially protected…. I should have trusted my gut feeling on never trading with them again…

    • I also received an 870 EVO.

    • isnt 870 evo a better model

      • +1

minor difference in performance but $87 difference in cashback

  • My invoice has a MZ-77E2T0BW as the item number
    https://i.imgur.com/6deT3lR.png

Going to have to pick mine up from PO box later today and see if it really is the 870 EVO.

    • Mine is same.

It's weird that under description they haven't mentioned the specific item we bought.

    • Just an FYI, I bought from Futu_Online (same company). Mine hasn't shipped and I asked for some info. I was informed that they have no stock for 860 EVO 2TB and the rep asked whether I want to cancel mine. I then replied indicating I would like to have the order cancelled.

For those who haven't received theirs (or not yet shipped), I suggest you contact the seller and find out whether they have stock (and make sure you mentioned 860 EVO 2TB, not 870 EVO).

      • At least you were contacted by the seller.

Mine was just shipped out without any communication. Now I have to go through the process of returning it…

        • No, the seller didn't contact me. I was still "dreaming" that I might get lucky this morning, but eventually, I came to accept the reality and contacted the seller. I don't want the seller to send me a 870 EVO. It's best the order gets cancelled, rather than adding more mess to a big mess.

Just hope the seller will cancel the order promptly.

  • Just got a message from them:

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Shollothead ebay.

For these SSDs drives all orders were upgraded to the 870 model, as the 860 is no longer avaliable.

Due to a bug with ebay this data did not update to the front end of the listing.

So if you do not wish to keep the 870 model you are welcome to return for a full refund and we can supply you with a return label via email.

Please advise what you would like to do and if you wish to return for a refund please help to confirm back your current email address.

We are deeply sorry for the confusion with this order.

    Kind Regards,

    • +1

I've asked them if they are willing to do a $87 refund, I don't like my chances but worth a shot.

      • if you don't ask you don't get. The issue is I actually do need to use mine to restore my online backup (old SSD died) and thinking whether if I should keep it even though the 870 would really kill the initial deal.

        • Still a decent deal with 870 EVO 2TB… though it just feels like a sneaky way to sell you 870 EVO 2TB. Most of us wouldn't buy it at that price.

          • @netsurfer: OP here, can confirm mine is also 870 EVO. Pretty dodgy way to try to sell some more stock. Like you said, still a pretty good deal. Considering keeping mine and trying to contact paypal and get reimbursement. Don't like my chances though.

            • +1

@drinkin-beer: The annoying thing is their after sale service is slooooowww and lacklustre (and I am being kind). It brings back bad memory (not just on dealing with this company, but also feeBay Plus). I had feeBay Plus sellers selling items not in stock and substitute with other items (to meet postage SLA).

Anyway, hope you guys get compensated. For me, since I notified them, they would cancel the order (I hope soon, but given how slow they do things, it is going to drag on for a while).

            • @drinkin-beer: Just got a bad news from them. Despite notifying them, they now notified me that the logistics team already packed the item and they will proceed with sending the item. They asked me to reject the delivery so the item will be returned to the sender.

Problem is, I am not sure whether the delivery person will give me that option or he/she might just put it in the mailbox. They know the mistake and they are still proceeding with it.

              • +2

@netsurfer: Personally, I would accept the delivery and go through the official channels for returns (ie. opening a ticket, requesting refund, etc).

            • @drinkin-beer: If related to Kai Seng Computers (Futu/Shallothead) chance of negotiating anything is extremely low…They have very shonky business practices - Not sure what ebay have to say about switching out products but it's obvious that they would do this deliberately to get business….I would advise to dispuute because at least it puts a black mark against the seller…

              • @evanssm2jp: I have put in a lengthy statement via PayPal dispute requesting a partial refund. I stated I have already opened it and tried to claim the cash back when I realised that the model number did not match up (refund not possible). Expecting them to refuse, then I will leave it up to PayPal to sort out. It's actually still unopened, they should pay for being deceptive imo.

                • +1

@drinkin-beer: Chances are you get the partial refund with that approach.
I however don’t urgently need one so easier to just reject delivery and get a refund, but as you said was very dodgy

                • @drinkin-beer: Did you request a $87 partial refund through PayPal?

Please let us know how you go as I might have to go this route.

                  • @User2049: Yes requested the $87 through PayPal, I will update my progress here 🙂

                • @drinkin-beer: Expect a month or so of back and fourth with Paypal before being told to return the item for a full refund and no further action against the seller but maybe several hours of your time wasted..

                  • @evanssm2jp: Yeah I expect that to be honest but I have the time, especially if it's a matter of principle. I am a terribly annoying customer 😂

                • @drinkin-beer: I get your reason for doing that, but it could be dangerous to state you already opened it (even though you haven't). Reason is, the seller seems rather shrewd and can drag this thing on. I read feedback comments on the seller and found they charged restocking fee on returns from some buyers.

Also, if you had previously sent them messages asking for clarification, it doesn't seem logical you would open the item. I guess you could, but then you are counting on the seller would do the right thing and compensate you exactly the way you want.

I contacted eBay, reported the seller to eBay. eBay staff told me to follow all the rules in order to be protected by eBay. eBay told me to accept the item then go through the full return process (rather than reject the delivery). Personally, having them getting the item back and provide a full refund is unpleasant for both parties. I don't think any seller enjoys returns.

                  • @netsurfer: That's fair, in my situation I am probably going to keep it regardless because it's still a good price at the end of the day. For me, it's more about being compensated for misleading buyers in this fashion. I will still keep it, but put up a fight because they shouldn't be able to do this. Worst case scenario for me, still get a pretty decent deal.

                    • @drinkin-beer: to me it's not a good deal as you still paying around 280 where as 4tb is close to 400 after cashback.
But please keep us updated, they should refund the difference as it is their fault.

                      • @lerkyp: https://www.ebay.com.au/help/action?topicId=4850 is the place to report an ebay sellers listings…

As I see it as a minimum they broke the following policies:
                        https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-policies/dupli… - Duplicate listing policy
https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-policies/searc… - Search manipulation policy - multiple items in 1 listing

                      • @lerkyp: It will be a total of $234 after cash back for the 2tb 870. Anything under $250 I would say is a pretty good price for a 2tb data SSD. Will let you know how I get on, I have already received a reply correspondence with a generic refund offer but I declined and threatened to esceleate. Man I really am a terrible customer 😅

                        Edit: definitely a "Karen"

                        • @drinkin-beer: I've just been online with customer support chat - a few of the statements from ebay:

I reviewed the links that you sent and base on my review. I agree with you that seller baited the buyer about the Samsung cashback deal. I did see that some of the items has a claim case.

Yes, I agree with you Mark. Base on the account reviews both accounts are connected and doing the same thing. I will forward this to our relevant team for better investigation and proper action will be apply.

You're most welcome. It's my pleasure to help you and also thank you for reporting Shallothead and futu_online I really appreciate your efforts this will help eBay community.

After my previous dealings with these sellers I hope ebay does actually take it seriously….

                          • @evanssm2jp: Do you think I should contact eBay directly as well? Or just stick with the PayPal approach?

                            • @drinkin-beer: From my past experience, eBay Support do have a tendency to just calm you down. You actually want an eBay Support staff that give you the truth and be harsh about it. From what I can gathered, from eBay's point of view to support us:

                              • Go through formal eBay return process. I am assuming because the return will be tracked.
                              • Reporting the seller… well, it makes us feel good, but is anything going to really happen?

PayPal handled the money side and eBay support can say whatever they want and they might think everything will just work out. At the end of the day, it is still PayPal doing the final ruling (if this ended up being a dispute). If PayPal already let you started the dispute process, then you want to continue that. You can talk to eBay, but just don't buy eBay Support's calm you down version 100%.

Is your invoice actually showing the model number for 870 Evo and the description also says 870 Evo. Mine is not matching so even if you are thinking about keeping 870 Evo and get the cashback difference refunded, you will still need the seller to correct the invoice.

                              • @netsurfer: Pretty fair point, my invoice does say 860 Evo (but it also says 870 Evo) so I will see how it goes. I should be able to claim the 870 cash back with the invoice I am just hoping for shallothead to chip in the rest.

                            • @drinkin-beer: it doesn't hurt to add to the case… only took me a few mins - the problem is always numbers. ebay work on a % for blacklisting a seller - currently shallothead has a rating of 99.7%, ebay premium / trusted seller status and the only way for that to be affected is if people report things like their bad practices.. problem being that with 165860 sales currently they would need a lot of complaints to bring down their rating… That allows them to continue against ebay policies and ebays own policies essentially don't protect buyers…

Basically you need to report things based on the ebay policies - I listed a couple above they are in violation of which you can use..just provide a list of duplicated ebay items from this ozbargain thread showing they have multiple different items on each and the samsung cashback baiting yet no stock / switched out for other stock….

                              • @evanssm2jp: Hmm yeah I see your point, I will start a chat with eBay tomorrow when I get a chance. It can't hurt.

  • I only noticed it was the wrong item part way thru the redemption process, when the cashback value was wrong. Sent them a message earlier but no response yet.

    • Update:
Took a few days for the money to show up on credit card but I got back the $272 I paid.

The whole communications from Shallot/SE and ebay confused the hell out of me.

I paid using credit card, not the paypal account linked to my ebay account.

*Every email I received stated that the refund was going into my paypal account
*1st email from Shallothead had the note "15% restocking fee for opened items"
*Email from paypal about the dispute I lodged in ebay (??) said that they were refunding the additional $48
*Followed by an email from ebay stating they have given me a courtesy refund, listing the item at $320, and a link to paypal that didn't work
*Then an email from SE that is frankly garbage and pisspoor customer service for their mistake:

Unfortunately for all Ebay returms, we must state the condition of the drive to Ebay per their terms and conditions and a restocking fee is applied
I would recommend raising this issue to Ebay as they will be able to cover the rest of the funds for you.
Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience caused.

  • Just received my order. Can confirm is the Samsung 870 EVO (which has less cashback).

  • As suggested by them I will reject taking delivery so they incur postage cost, also will leave them a negative feedback due to misleading conduct, supplying wrong product and wrong cashback advertisement

    • It's a good idea to lodge as a dispute also, otherwise they don't have anything noted as a penalty by ebay, not that it makes much difference because blacklisting is based on a % of sales - ebay don't care because they are getting the sales numbers…

  • Purchased through FUTU, item number indicates it’s an 870 EVO while the description states it’s an 860. I’m guessing I’ll get the 870 since it’s also K.S. Computers but this invoice is wrong and will probably cause issues with claiming cashback either way

    • You will get 870 Evo. Same company, they are processing Futu orders today. Despite knowing the problem, they are still sending them out. I don't know why they are doing this. Are they counting on sufficient people won't return them?

      • Perhaps they had no ill intent. Under normal conditions it would be a free upgrade from older to newer model and customers wouldn’t complain. Company might just be slow to respond to the recent complaints and haven’t been able to halt further shipments.

        • +1

Except the invoice is incorrect too. The model number doesn't match the description. Samsung could reject the claim (even if you proceed with the claim as 870 Evo).

As for it being an upgrade, there is another side to it. It appears 860 EVO 2TB SATA3 SSDs on the market are old stock and they tend to be more expensive (or the retailers know about the cashback so they are not lowering the price). There is a reason why Kai Seng Computers offer these at that price. Bear in mind the customer service rep knew 870 EVOs are being shipped instead when I enquired this morning (and clearly he didn't need to check with logistics team to confirm that).

Anyway, at least officially, they are taking returns for full refund.

    • +1

Please lodge an ebay complaint - we need to force these sellers into stopping the bad practices:

https://www.ebay.com.au/help/action?topicId=4850 is the place to report an ebay sellers listings…

As I see it as a minimum they broke the following policies:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-policies/dupli… - Duplicate listing policy
https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-policies/searc… - Search manipulation policy - multiple items in 1 listing

just provide a list of duplicated ebay items from this ozbargain thread showing they have multiple different items on each and the Samsung cashback baiting yet no stock / switched out for other stock….I'm hoping the more people putting in the same complaints will have an effect.

      • Doubt it will make any difference. We are already seeing new deals from this company being posted on OZB.

  • For those who are looking for a partial refund $87 from the seller, he basically reject it and said i need to provide item back for a full refund or keep it

  • For those considering keeping the 870 EVO. Here's a comparison between the 860 EVO and 870 EVO. There's not much difference between the two: https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-860-Evo-2TB-vs…

    • The advantage of 870 EVO over 860 EVO (based on the reviews I read so far) is its performance when the drive is filled up (closer to being full). Otherwise, it is neck and neck. Specs wise, 870 EVO is suppose to have higher IOPs throughputs for random reads/writes, but honestly, who would use SATA3 if high IOPs is important?

It's not worth keeping it coz the cashback for 970 EVO 2TB is much lower. Also, the invoice sent is not quite right (well, it seems to be the eBay item title). On mine, it lists all the 860 EVO SSD sizes.

    • This can't be true. It's basically the same thing just rebranded to make it seem newer.
There must be something which made them release a upgraded version.
That site makes 860 evo seem better than 870 even if they were the same price

      • There are some minor tweaks to 870 EVO (they help a bit once the drive is filled up). Fresh new drives (hardly filled), you won't see any advantage (and I doubt most users fill their SSD close to full right away then run benchmark tests). However, the real reason for Samsung to introduce it is due to higher density layer (Samsung 128L TLC). Later on, it will allow Samsung to drop price. Because of that, there is less reason to get it now unless the price is really good.

        • How low, do you reckon it will got. I have yet to receive mine and if it's actually 870 evo, I will be disputing it for them to give me the difference to make it $150 after cashback if they don't I will return it.
I am in no hurry for extra space so can wait if you think 2tb will become cheaper than $150 by end of this year

          • +1

@lerkyp: No idea, it will depend on how Crucial / Micron responds (basically depends on the competition). WD could introduce something new to compete. SSD makers know most people want 2TB or 4TB SSDs now so there is no incentive for them to start a price war on those.

Ask the seller to provide a partial refund (as much as we would all love that) seems unrealistic. Seller would be losing even more money. Also, despite seller rep failed to stop the item being sent to me (after being notified this morning), the rep indicated item return for a full refund is the option being offered. It's likely eBay and PayPal will rule in favour of that. While most of us care about this $87, eBay and PayPal don't (they'd rather a return and full refund instead of wasting more admin effort on it).

I just don't think we (buyers) have any real reason to stop the seller essentially cancel the transaction completely. Lastly, we do not know what features feeBay gives to these power sellers. Even Amazon has screwed up my orders before and their resolutions weren't always ideal.

  • +4

    Don't bother messaging them/waiting for a response.

Just start the return process ASAP through the "Return this Item" option on your eBay Orders Page and selecting "Wrong Item Sent".

This option will provide you with a free return label and the option to drop off the parcel at Australia Post or for a Courier to pick it up.

    • Dropped off my parcel at Auspost yesterday, and just received refund via PayPal.

      • Have they actually received it? Or is it just an automated process?

I had the courier pick mine up about 2 hours ago

        • Yep, marked as Delivered based on the tracking ID on Auspost.

Was the courier that picked it up, Courier Please? If so, good luck.

          • @RichardL: Yeah it's Courier's Please, unfortunately I didn't have time to head to the post office to have it sorted so I needed someone to come pick it up :(

  • -2

I'm going to open mine and then claim the return so these false advertisers can't resell these drives as new

    • this way you will get the amount refunded? I doubt it

      • They sent the wrong item, it has to be refunded under ACL

    • +1

Probably not worth doing it as they will have an excuse to charge you restocking fee or something others.

    • Best to avoid doing that. Even Amazon has sent me a wrong item before. I get the frustration, but it is best not to give the seller any reason to refuse full refund (even if you have grounds to get the full refund). You don't want to mess around with your own money.

With the cashback promotion, if you were to open it, it allows the seller to doubt that you could have attempted to claim the cashback then initiate the full refund. Just let it go, the deal was a bit too good to be true to start with.

    • +1

Best not to, it just complicates the return. I’d just hit them with negative feedback once you receive the refund.

  • Yeah, also got an 870 Evo.

Really shitty. Only wanted to spend the amount after cashback.

Lodged a return through eBay. Printed a courier pickup label for free, and it'll be on the way back to them tomorrow.

  • Waste half an hour for me to pick up the parcel. Wrong item. Then now another half hour to send it back to post office for return. Who pays my wasting time???

  • I also just received 870 evo, click return and refund without second thought.

  • +1

So did anyone here get a EVO 860 at all? I made my purchase pretty early when the deal had just 100 clicks and got the 870.

    • +1

OP here, obviously was first onto this deal and still got an 870 😑

    • Has always meant to be 870 EVO (hence the price). Re-quoting an earlier comment regarding info provided by seller's rep:

Thank you for contacting Shollothead ebay.

For these SSDs drives all orders were upgraded to the 870 model, as the 860 is no longer avaliable.

Due to a bug with ebay this data did not update to the front end of the listing.

Going through feeBay Plus return for refund process. It's been quite frustrating dealing with seller's customer rep. While appeared to be helpful at times, didn't end up doing anything to help the situation so far (complete waste of time).

I did notify the rep with the return tracking Id and letting the rep knows that I am returning it through eBay standard return process. I try to do the right thing still. It's always annoying with item not as described, especially on a feeBay item.

  • +2

Also got the 870, I asked if they were willing to provide a partial refund. They agreed to $44. So $44 + $36 (cashback for 870) = $80. I missed out on $43 but I can't be bothered going through the process of returning it. Not the most ozbargain spirit but needed the SSD. Maybe someone else can try this aswell.

    • that's a ripper deal you've got with 2tb 870 EVO, congrats. :)

looks like patience is a virtue XD

    • I tried asking for a partial refund but they declined saying not possible.

      • Ah man that sucks. Did you ask for the full $87? After reading the comments that people were denied the full $87, I decided to say I was ready to accept a lesser amount than the full $87. Hope that helps.

        • I did, maybe I'll give that a try, thanks

    • Nice job mate, congrats. My claim for compensation is in the hands of the PayPal gods, got an email today to say they had responded to me dispute. Either way, the drive is already in my PC so won't be returning it lol

      • I'll give them another day before I escalate it with PayPal and see where that goes, at least the cashback claims got a 'validation completed' status so I assume the incorrect invoice was not an issue. Otherwise, the drive is working great in my PC as well.

        • Lol! I ran out of patience after half a day of no response and escelated it. I would say just do it, the chances they resolve the issue for you are minimal.

Everyone check your refunds. They charged me a 15% restocking fee despite me stating in the first message that I only noticed it was the wrong model after I had opened, and after telling me I could return for a full refund.

I've escalated it with ebay, and seriously considering going straight to my credit card provider. How the (profanity) can you charge a restocking fee after you falsely advertise a product and send EVERY purchaser the wrong thing?

I would say you should have wait before posting it back, it took days but here is their decision:

      Hi,

      Thanks for the email,
Shallot head understands that you are not happy with only offering the return of the SSD , so we have spoken with our support team and now we are willing to offer a $44 Refund.
you will still be able to also claim the $36 Cashback refund from Samsung AU for this unit.

If you would like to take us up on this offer,
      please confirm back to us.
from here we will provide more information.

      Cheers,

      • Ok thanks for the heads up, my PayPal claim went nowhere because they offered me a complete refund so after that PayPal's hands were tied. I sent them a message over eBay asking for a lesser refund, see how it goes. Thanks!

        • What happened to they must pay you the difference in full? Anyway, I think getting $44 refund is quite likely.

I get with the $44 refund, the overall deal seems worthwhile. However, my experience on the whole thing (inc. dealing with the customer rep) is frustrating enough that I simply don't want it anymore. In my case, they at least did the right thing and provided a full refund in a reasonable timeframe (well, there is a time windows they need to provide a refund after receiving the item as per eBay rules).

      • Have you received your $44 refund yet? they extended the offer to me too but haven't hear back from them for a day or so.
