Once I owned a RM650i, and one day it exploded all in a sudden out of no reason, and scared the shy outta me who was deep in a game at the moment.

    • I guess that's bad luck, I have a RM750 and a SF450, had a AX1000, all running almost 24/7, never had a issue. Cosair does source good PSU from manufacturer.

      • Yeah agreed. And even though I replaced this RM650i with an SF750 as my case is both SFX and ATX PSU compatible. But still, I'm just sharing a true story. That happened after about 30 months normal use.

        • What was the outcome? Was Corsair liable to replace your parts for their product causing the damage?

          • @dsiritz: Mwave gave me a full refund as the warranty of this PSU is 10 yrs. Then I purchased the SF750 from them.

            • @WayneOZ: I meant for the rest of your system? Or were the parts inside fine?

@dsiritz: Guess I was just lucky as no other parts in my rig got impacted by this issue, but obviously this is not guaranteed so YMMV when it comes to your PSU. I didn't disassemble it to check what happened inside as doing this would cause the void of warranty, but it's very likely that the explosion came from the built-in capacitors. I could hear the some unknow debris in it rolling here and there when I shake the PSU with both of my hands.

                • @WayneOZ: Ok cool that doesn't sound as scary.. I was just worried because I've only recently bought an RM850x and thought these were meant to be high quality PSU's..

@dsiritz: Being scary or not depends on what you're doing with your PC at the moment. If you're just surfing online this is no more than another power outage but I was in DOTA2 engaging a team fight casting a crital ultimate and all in a sudden everything went off with a loud unknown noise and my monitor went black screen too as video signal lost… for a sec or two I couldn't tell if I was in the virual or real world and thought the hero casted the ulti onto me… but for the quality I think you can sit back and relax. Corsair is still a reliable brand and your RM850x is considered A+ tier PSU.

        • Warranty available gor 30 months

  • I have a PSU. It worked fine until it stopped working. I wish I had a spare power supply to get my rig going. As Tom's Hardware would say…. Just buy it
