FYI: this one is not made in America

  • No lever to adjust the bottom blade?

I've been shaving my own head for years, and all the clippers I've owned have always had a lever to adjust how tight the cut is… important for 'fading' to different lengths.

    • Just started shaving my own head, failed at doing a fade first couple times, any advice for an even fade?

        Practice :).

Seriously, there's quite a few good YouTube vids out there that'll give you good tips on how to hold the clippers and how to line up your fade.

Otherwise go get a decent haircut and actually watch how they do it and where they line up your fade.

Doing it yourself, especially at the back of your head is tough when starting out. Ideally better if someone else can do it, because its hard to do while holding the clippers and a mirror (you bounce the reflection off the front mirror to see back of your head with the handheld).

Alternatively you can buy one of those wall hung mirrors with an arm, and mount it on the opposite wall to your main mirror. These are really good for getting the neck edge really straight.

Girlfriends/wives are handy as well if you don't want to go to all that trouble :).

Also to note this one isn't lithium ion, so it's heavier that it needs to be.

I'd suggest this one. Yeah it's double the price, but it's also on sale. It's lithium ion and also has a lever for more adjustment.

    Worth the $50 extra imo.

    • Excellent option! (The colour version is usually good to convince kids to do haircuts.)

This is also an amazing brand and model.

Been shaving my head weekly for over a year now.

Get about 2 hours per charge.

If you're just cutting your own hair, a 12 blade fits well; then 10 on the sides/back and 8 on the edges.

I cant praise this model enough honestly.

VS was recommended to my by a local barber who thrashes them daily and hasnt had one fail yet.

My mothers VS products are over 15 years old now, still going strong.

  • I find I use this more corded vs cordless. Needs 12hrs of charge to get 40 mins runtime (according to the manual). I'd spend the extra next time and get a model with lever and better battery life + quicker charge time.

Just an update. I used this on kids and it works very well. 40 minutes gets you a lot of runtime, unless you cut hair of 5 people in one go this is certainly sufficient. Excellent value for home use.
