Great price, can't justify a purchase right but can see myself grabbing 2 if it comes up at this price again.

    • +10

Don't think you will ever see this drive at this price again as obvious price error.

  • Very nice price. I think they accidently put this up for the 6tb price?

    • +4

probably is, i can see refund and order cancelled coming

  • Wow nice find!

  • +7

    So,

Considering they are $787 at the sellers site not so sure this will get honoured. But god speed to anyone who gets them 😃

    • +2

Hence site called, Catch of the day !

    • Looks like they are out of stock on their main web… could be the backlog orders from COTD…?

  • Any recommendations on a good, fast nas enclosure for this?

    • +5

Cheapest unraid box you can build with an i3 10100. Will last a long time.

    • +3

If you want something equivalent to the Synologys that often get posted the asrock celeron boards are pretty good value. Motherboard, cpu and passive cooler for $140, uses a bit less power than an i3/i5 system, silent, still easily fast enough for file serving and running a few web services, and has hardware accelerated transcoding for plex/jellyfin streams. Chuck it in an old case with a hba and you're good to go.

      • maybe should do that, wouldn't mind a small case, already got an old good quality full size psu but.
need ram etc, will end up being more work/money no doubt .. then end up with a second pc

        • Yeah, it is just another thing to deal with. I guess it depends how much use you'd get out of a nas/server.

          • @snep: Always too hard lol
Still don't have Plex pass but funny trying to set up 1992 tech these days aka Nas

            • +2

@G-rig: A Nas is more current than ever with the amount of different streaming services you would need to cover all content :)

              • +1

@ozturtle: The chromecast with google TV does a good job, netflix, amazon, youtube, all the free to air replay stuff, got Tidal for music (and youtube music).

It's really just for streaming your own content to any device without the need to leave your computer on. NAS should be less power too.

    • Wouldn't mind a Synology DS212+, not that cheap.
Just after something to replace a few old 320GB hdds that need to be binned
Bit pointless turning pc on to stream the odd show & music, backups etc

Isn't this literally close to RRP of the 8tb Ironwolf non-pro lol. Has to be a pricing error but I'm still gonna shoot for it

  • Cheaper than the x16s in the external drives from Amazon

  • Oos

  • OOS

  • And it's gone!

  • OOS

  • Damn, just as I was buying! Out of stock

  • +2

    OzBargained!

Cheaper than even the external 16TB units from Amazon at $425.

    Oh well …

    • +3

The EXOS units are arguably a better deal though, especially in a RAID/NAS setup. they're also readily available which helps.

  • Yep gone for me as well. Was just setting up a Catch account and OOS. Oh well.

  • +1

Nice find! While I have an order confirmed I suspect I’ll see a cancellation shortly…

  • +1

Sorry, Seagate IronWolf Pro ST16000NE000 internal hard drive 3.5" 16000 GB Serial ATA III is sold out. :-(

  • Just ordered one. Would definitely make a nice upgrade.

  • Good price.

  • +1

Expecting a cancellation on my order as well.. If OPs order has already been dispatched that's one lucky purchase!

  • Rare genuine catch. Let's see if they live up to their name.

    • +1

Third party seller JW Computers Online doing a marketplace listing on Catch, not sold by Catch directly.

      • Had no idea they'd become a marketplace.

  • Back in stock and just order one

  • +4

Catch always refund, literally 0.01% chance of it happening.

It's showing in stock for me.

    • They honored the phone card deal though

      • +2

The phone card almost cost them nothing, having a few hundred extra mobile subscribers on their network will cost zip, getting a pallet of physical goods cost money.

      • +1

Another of their dodgy example is the Samsonite luggage deal during boxing day, they blamed Samsonite and Samsonite said it was a Catch error and lack of a better term, their response is sorry… better luck next time…

  • I paid. Item went out of stock. No order in my account history yet they took my money?

  • Ordered one too at $363.11 :-)

$699 at other computer stores so guessing cancellation but worth a try.

  • Despite being OOS, does anyone have any feedback on the noise of these? I bought the 8TB Pro recently and it's noisy AF, despite the spec sheets saying it's one of the quietest. Very disappointed, and looking for something better.

    • 40 to 45dB (put acoustimeter outside the NAS case)according to some review

    • +1

These are basically downgraded EXOS drives (less total write number).

My HGST Enterprise 14tb drive shakes my desk during first spin up. It's just a given with these types of drives.

    • shove it in a corner and forget about it. noise is only insane when writing

      • Second this, my NAS was next to the TV but I ended up buying a 10 metre ethernet cable and putting it in the far corner of the room as the noise was annoying me.

    • i saw comments about the noise too, my shucked 12t wd white drive seems to be quiet so far

  • +1

Back in stock again. 2 left

  • Managed to get one also.
    Just keep refreshing

    • +1

That always happens with catch deals that gets ozbargained (catches system automatically adds more stock for some reason). These deals almost always get cancelled later.

  • I kept refreshing and somehow scored 2.

I'll be surprised if these are honoured.

    • Don't waste your time, theres a 99.999% chance the deal will get cancelled and everyone will get refunded.

  • +1

    That was a good price.
Hope they honour those who got it in time.

    For others https://www.catch.com.au/product/seagate-nas-hdd-4tb-sata-3-…
You can get 4 to have the same capacity.

    • +1

      Lol $9999 for 1x 4TB, good one.

  • +1

removed from site :(. Nice post OP, well done to those that got one

  • Looks like a price error.

  • Does anyone know what's the best payment method with these refund likely purchases? I usually use paypal but if they take a shorter time with eftpos or afterpay I wouldn't mind knowing

  • +1

    Your guys are toooooooo fast

  • +2

    OMG. Missed.

  • +15

A professional ozB member always makes sure theirs has shipped before posting. Good job on getting a bargain OP

  • -2

They will loose too much money, no way they will honour.

  • Haven't had any luck with Catch honouring price errors. Hopefully this one works out for you all.

    • +2

Same here, i even got one order on the way which they got AusPost to retract. All the best, hope you guys get your orders.

  • +9

For anyone looking for some drives, the 14tb exos are similarly priced shipped from Amazon (Serverpartdeals). I received two of these last week, they passed extended tests, and their warranty status was verified 5 years (in the US). I was charged AU$820.85 on my card for two delivered priority at US$628.01. Ordered on the 10th, delivered on the 17th.

    • +1

if mine gets cancelled I might consider jumping onto this one.

  • Any dual/quad bay enclosures that are good value and support these drives?

  • +2

I think I would need to finally organise my filesystem before going anywhere near 16TB.

  • I missed out! Dang!

  • Hope they honor it! Didn't order any, would have filled up the NAS of course; good luck to OP, hope you get yours!

  • +2

What a deal. Hope they honour the price error.

This is the same price (~$350 each) as the 2xSeagate Exos 16TB I got on Black Friday from Amazon…but that was only after 12% cashback and $60 rebate by paying via Zip.

  • Blast this site and the OP

Had no further need for HDD but would have bought two anyways.

    Seriously, OP thank you.

  • Darn! Missed!

  • +1

Anyone had an update on their order?

    • +2

It just said "in progress" …

      • +7

        Keep us all updated!

    • Grateful that I haven't had a cancellation as yet

      • No cancellation here yet either, though OP did say he got confirmation that they're being "dispatched by courier", I wonder how long after the purchase was made he got confirmation of that?

  • +2

This is the response I got from their customer service.

We are expecting the stock to arrive and ship from our warehouse in the next 1-2 business days, as the units were being sourced in from our suppliers. Once they land, we will have your order dispatched immedialty.

    • Thanks for the update

  • +12

Just a heads up guys, I received my delivery but they sent 6TB drives instead!
Just raised a dispute with catch, in regards to receiving incorrect goods.
My order history and email confirmation all state 16TB so this will be interesting.

    • Bugger, this could get messy. Keep us posted as to your experience please

    • Yikes! Thanks for the update, interesting to see how this develops.

    • Ughh, maybe I should just cancel it then, save the hassle…

      • Canceled my order, definitely not worth it imo

        • Just tried to cancel mine by calling catch.. Instead had to send a message to JW and to wait for their reply.
Is there an easier method I don't know of?

          • @FATKMZ: No other way, you will need to wait for them to cancel the order. The response I got from JW was that my order is now cancelled and to please allow 3-5 business days for Catch to process this back to your original payment method.

    • This threads going to be a bloodbath if they try sending us 6TB drive instead of what was advertised.

      • that's not the best deal, the 4TB in the other thread was only $140 or something

        • In which case best deal is the Amazon shuckable drives.

          • @BargainKen: Sitll got data on an old 2TB 3.5" WD, was in storage for ages, no reason it would fail, or better to get a new data drive one day? Was easy enough to wack it in the pc i built last year. Need to get rid of some smaller ones, still kind of keen on a nas but gets too hard/$$ every time (and to be honest digital purge wouldn't be bad)

  • Walt up, these aren't even CMR drive are they?

  • I cancelled the order via the catch platform by hitting the "message the seller" button on the order. JW came back in a couple of hours.

I could push it - but not worth the effort in going through a returns process.

  • +4

    I just got refunded:

Unfortunately due to an item sync error on Catchs' website, this item was listed incorrectly as a 16TB drive when in fact this was linked on our end to a 6TB drive. In this case, due to their item/pricing error, we're unable to fulfil this order for you. I am sorry about the mistake on Catchs' part.

A full refund has been issued for the drives now, please allow 3-5 business days for Catch to process this back to your original payment method.

    • Did this happen automatically or did you contact them first?

      • Automatically - strange if no one else has had it happen.

I'd recommend everyone to cancel their order though, get your money back ASAP. Pretty clear they're not going to properly honour this.

  • Cancelled my order too, CBF with dispute down the road.

    • A bit like the Ned's whiskey, that would have been a sweet deal haha

  • My order has been delayed.. I just got the email
