Chalk and cheese, the unit you've recommended doesn't have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Before anyone asks, yes it's a capacitive screen.
Yes it does both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wired).
Yes it has OEM capability for Steering Wheel Controls in most Asian vehicles, so no need for a separate SWC adapter.
Go to Aerpro or Stinger to determine fascias/harnesses/antenna adapters/reverse camera retention/factory amplifier retention parts for your vehicle.

I have this model and the bluetooth is flakey for me. I had the XAV-AX5000 and bluetooth was solid but android auto disconnects caused me to return it for this which is solid with android auto but often when I get a call, bluetooth is not connected for some reason. Very frustrating. Any experience?

      • I assume no issues using USB connection?

        • No issues besides it not working for phone calls so when answering, it uses speaker on phone instead of head unit.

      • There was a firmware update issued only days ago for the DMX5020S. Try updating it and see if it sorts the unit's issues.

  • is the Sony XAV 1000 still the only model with a physical volume knob?

    • yes.

there is only so much space within the DIN spec and its being consumed by screens.

your phone doesnt have a volume knob. you'll be OK.

      • OK Laserface

I recently switched to a wireless carplay head unit. I miss my volume knob but i dont miss it as much as i enjoy the extra features of my new head unit.

if you want a volume knob you have to compromise. currently the only head unit that has both carplay and a knob is the sony one you mentioned and none of the more recent models (the sony is at least 2 years old) have a volume knob. it has the smallest display of a carplay head unit, its not wireless, and the touch interface is resistive touch.

if you dont have steering wheel controls i might understand your argument but spending $500 on a head unit for a car thats so old it doesnt have steering wheel controls doesnt make a lot of sense to me. get a $100 CD/MP3/Bluetooth unit and call it a day.

          • @Laserface: which unit did you go for? 8520dabs?

            • +1

              @nismoau: Pioneer DMH-Z6350BT

              • @Laserface: are you happy with it? did you check the 8520dabs? currently deciding between them, thanks for your reply.

  • 7 inches. Wish I had that much…

    • that's what she said

  • How much does Supercheap charge to install these?

Before anyone asks; yes Ive researched my bracket, yes Ive looked up videos how to install myself. I dont want to do it.

  • Only 7"s?

if you can figure out how to get more than 7" diagonal in 180mm x 100mm and include a bezel and soft keys, probably get on the horn to a head unit company and let them know. (theres 8.1" of diagonal within the absolute limits of the spec)

typically they are 6"/7"/9" with the 9" units being a single DIN unit with an out-board display.
